  1. I was scared when I first got the band. And as someone said above, you fail when you give up. I gave up getting to the weight I wanted and then everything went to hell. Just listen to your surgeon, do what feels right for your body, and never forget that goal. I'm trying to get back on the train and it's hard.

  2. He panics anytime he hears me say 'LapBand friendly meal' because he automatically thinks mush and half cup portions is all he'll be able to eat. I'va had the band for almost 3 years now but I found out I had cancer last year (which has been totally swiped from my body, thank the heavens) so I got my band deflated since I was so weak and losing about 3-5 pounds a week. So I kind of got out of the swing of things, and I'm trying to get back into cooking and eating the right things and portions.

I looked at that emilybites.com and found a TON of things I want to try. I showed them to him as well and he seemed interested and didn't freak out when I said they looked like I could eat them. :)

  3. So, I know that the Teens part of this is kind of slow, but if anyone does get on here and wants someone to talk to, just hit me up.

I'm 17, and was banded last August. I have been through hell and back with this thing, so I understand most problems you may be having.

If you are contemplating getting the surgery, I can give you my story for that as well (trust me, there is one).

    My email is : andy.penguins@ymail.com

Don't laugh at it please. It's from Junior High.

  4. I've started to go BACKWARDS instead of forwards. And I want to put this to a stop!

I've already got an exercise plan and workout buddy planned out, and all I have left is the recipes!

If you have any good ones, then please let me know!

  5. I'm 16, and have always had a desire to be in the military. It has always just felt like the right path for me. However, when I went to speak to my recruiting office, they told me that they didn't think that LapBanders could join any branch of the military. I asked them if they were sure, and they said not really, but wouldn't even look it up.

I was just wondering if anyone had any more info on the subject. I'm looking more towards Navy, Army, and Nat Guard. I'm not exactly cut out for the Marines or anything lol.

  6. Thank you both so much for your input!

Tami_819, thank you. You're right, I guess that I am a little bit worried about being left behind. She's going to be starting a whole new life, and I guess that I'm just worried that she won't need her single friends anymore. I suppose that I'm also just a little bit worried about HER breaking HIS heart. She's said multiple times that she just doesn't think that she will last long in marriage, because she gets bored easily with everything. Including guys.

But no matter what happens, I will definitely always be there for her. No. Matter. What.

  7. Okay Ladies, I need some input here. So I'll give you a run-down of the situation.

My friend is 17, and she's been dating this guy for maybe a year and a half now. He's 18, and a great guy. He treats her like a princess, even though she doesn't exactly return the favor towards him. They are getting married in June. Yeah. Married while they are still children.

They say they love each other, I totally get that and believe them. But we're still kids ourselves. And still developing mentally. She chose me as the Maid of Honor for the wedding (we've been best friends since we were 12), but I just can't bring myself to be happy for her when I know that they aren't ready for this kind of step. Neither of them have ever had a job, and he's going to be make a 3 hour commute every day for school. She's going to be living with him, his mom, and his grandma while attending beauty school.

They've only been engaged for less than a week, and she's already bought their glasses, wedding invitations, and picked out the wedding theme. All without consulting him on any of it. The fight that exploded over his apparent selfishness and her apparent lack of concern for his feelings was a prime example to me for why they simply aren't ready.

Please give me some advice. And if I'm in the wrong, then let me know, so that I won't keep trying to explain this to her. But I'm just at a loss of what to do...I understand it's her decision, and that there is a good chance that it will work out, but I just don't want to see her as a single mom in only a couple of years.

  8. I know that Zumba is gaining in popularity, and I know that it is strenuous, but just how beneficial is it? I don't have the ACTUAL Zumba videos, but I've been using some I found on Youtube, and if they aren't the real thing, then I don't know what they are.

I just wanted to know if anyone actually knew how beneficial it was and if it is actually worth the six minutes and basically killing myself.

  9. With the aid of LapBand, I lost 60 pounds, which was amazing! But unfortunately, I've gained ten pounds and counting! I used to love stepping on the scale and watching the number get smaller and smaller, but now I literally cringe anytime I pass by one.

I have a fill scheduled in two-weeks, and I'm hoping that will help. I also tried to put it off as it being winter, and that my body was maybe just storing fat. I'm so confused. =/

  10. So, I'm 16. With me being a teenager, I don't have much free time between advanced classes at school, church, my community, and Band.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for some quick workouts that would, not necessersarily get me in shape, but get me healthy.

I don't have much equipment at my house, but I do have a yoga mat, some dumbell weights, a treadmill, and lots of space.

  11. Mexico is the only place you can go. No where in the US will do someone under 18.

Not true. I'm fifteen and Dr. Ferrera in Forth Worth approved me right away. I'm getting my surgery done sometime in June, and there are plenty of other doctors in Texas that would do it.

I know that it's pretty much the same flight, and would cost just about the same, but atleast it's american done.

And don't get freaked out at the mention of Mexico. Alot of the doctors located in the border towns are trained and taught here in the US and go to Mexico strictly for the purpose of doing these surgery's for people that either can't get approved, don't have insurance, and that are under 18.

  12. I totally agree with LeighaMason. And I am having a similar time as you.

My best friend has been backing me for the past year in trying to get approved, but now that it's actually going to happen, she's been totally different. She's been telling me that if I want a running partner, then she'd go with me. I haven't even mentioned to her anything about what I do to excercise. She has been very critical of things that I eat and tells me that I should not be wearing tank tops and such in public. These things really hurt me and I was very confused. I talked to someone else that they said that she had told them that she was afraid I was going to change and I wouldn't be her friend anymore.

We talked and everything's cool now with us. Maybe you could just try talking to your friend.

  13. Hey, I'm currently fif-teen, 304 lbs and 5'5". I just got approved (after the three denials) and am schedualed for sometime in the summer. Before I got approved I wasn't scared at all, but now that it's happening I'm starting to get butterflies.

If anyone has any advice, please help. I can't not go through with this, my body won't be able to take it.

I hope that I have the same results that you have had and congrats. =)

  14. I am currently fifteen and was deinied in December for the surgery with the exvuse that I wasn't done growing. My surgeon was an all go for it, as was my regular doctor. I think that the only issue your child will run into will be the inurance company.

(Btw, we proved that I was done growing with a few x-rays and are now fighting my insurance company.)
