I have not done well on the preop diet while traveling to move my daughter to college this week. I will let my surgeon know and see if she still wants to keep my surgery date. I’m a revision and she almost didn’t put me in the preop diet. I am back home on Subday and will have 5 full days to follow it without any hiccups. I am worried.

I am a revision as well. Are you going lapband to something or VSG to bypass?

I should have mentioned in my initial post that I had a sleeve in 2018. Had horrible GERD since and also never lost the most weight that my surgeon said I could possibly lose. Fast forward through COVID, loss of a family member, major job change l, etc etc - I actually gained almost ALL of the weight back. It very embarrassing. I would have never thought that I would gain it all back - ever. As the day goes, never say never. I have a new surgeon now and she is amazing and did not make me feel like a loser. Since I have GERD and never lost to my potential, and have the hiatal hernia, I am having a revision to gastric bypass on 8/11. My highest weight was 250 and my lowest weight after sleeve was 169. I’m 5’4”. To say that this second chance means everything to me is an understatement. I haven’t even told anyone (besides my husband) that I’m doing the revision because I’m so embarrassed.

Please don't be embarrassed!! Its life, and things happen!

My bestfriend was band to sleeve, and then GERD took over; she just bypassed a few months ago and hasn't had one single day of it again!

Oh yeah, there's vegetable broth. Earlier I was going to suggest chicken, beef, or Bone Broth, but then I saw that you're vegetarian. I thought it would be rude. But now that LewiB mentioned it, I remembered there's also vegetable broth. I don't know the rules of your diet, sorry.

Oh girl don't trip, I don't get offended easy! haha. My surgeon keeps saying Protein (chicken fish etc) and I just smile LOL.

I just got back from my pre-op class and feel much better. I have to say my clinic seems to be doing a very good job of making sure you are well educated and giving you all the support you need. They will test your Vitamin levels every 6 months for life and want to keep following you for 5 years. Having them tested is key to me, because its important to know if what you are doing is working. I'm chronically low on Vit D, and I've had doctors test me, see I'm low and tell me to take supplements with no follow-up. Guess what? The level of supplementation wasn't cutting it, I needed a higher dose. So I'm really glad they are proactive about that.

    4 days to go!

I am chronically low on D also!! I think it's due to my past 10 years as a vegan but went to Vegetarian about 3 years ago- BUT I still don't drink milk and I hate the sun LOL. Thankfully my Dr is proactive, and she put me on a weekly dose 2 weeks ago. Praying it's helping!

I have the list of Vitamins and I am sooooo confused, even though I am a Lapband patient (which basically tells you I NEVERRRR took my vitamins all these years) - my friend who is sleeve to bypass made herself a daily color chart, to help learn, I think I will do the same.

I told my family (Mom, brothers, sisters-in-law). I am not telling anyone at work. Some friends know.

One of my SIL is a dietician and she was very negative on it, more because she's worried about the malabsorption factor. But she also is skinny and has never struggled with her weight, even having 2 kids. She's never understood how hard it is for someone whose genes and body are fighting against them. (She never worked as a dietician for overweight people, she worked in nursing homes planning diets and in a school lunch program. She would be terrible in a weight loss program - the super skinny dietician who says 'just eat less') My brothers and I all married naturally skinny people and we are all overweight, except maybe the dietician's husband less so because she scolds him - he still eats terribly when she isn't looking.

Yes it’s usually ones who have never struggled. Ugh. Don’t worry about the malabsorption! I had lapband done in 2010 and I’ve been ok!

    Good for you Tamra

The way I see it is...

It's my story to tell... My journey.

If I decide to speak about it... I will. Until the, this is hard enough.

    Physically and mentally and emotionally.

Im not sure I could personally deal with a ton of negativity at this point.

Yes! It’s very physically mentally and emotionally challenging. Because this is my second weight loss surgery I have had some negativity from my family, but I am choosing to meet it with positivity.

I have 13 days of full fluids and 1 day of clear fluids.

    As for haters?

I've decided to keep my journey to myself and my husband.

Ignore the haters... Most are uneducated as to what we are all going through.

I love that you have kept it between you two. I have shared with a few close people but today my coworker said "doing anything fun for your week off?" I said oh, just having a small medical procedure, nothing too fancy" - I am not close with my admin team personal life wise, so I felt on the spot, but spit that out.

  9. J ~ I miss Dr. Baggs SO MUCH!! I don't have KP anymore because I work for Blue Shield. I actually CALLED him a few months ago asking if he would revise me and how much out of pocket a month it would be LOL! He told me it would be so expensive as well as 2 surgeries. He told me the surgeon I have right now is an excellent Dr., so that made me feel ablittle better!

HI REGGIE!!!! How scary about your band!!! Mine is still in there, perfectly hanging on from what we can tell, but it's just not doing it's job as it should. I tried to get a fill once after I changed insurances in 2020, and I literally made it to the car and was throwing up my spit, she had to take the fill out. I have another friend trying that med as well, but like you is dealing with the shortage.

    Hello,

how’s everyone? I often wonder where folks are in this journey.

Long time no talk!!!!! How are you!!!!
I am revising to the sleeve with John Muir August 15th. I was successful with the band for many many years but after a baby and life I gained everything back and then some!

Most of my questions are on food. For pre-op I’m allowed one meal of 4 oz of Protein and 1/2 cup of veggies. So right now I’m not sure if I can use a sugar free Salad Dressing as part of that or is it ok since it’s barely any calories and no sugar. I can email them so that helps.

oooo I wish I could have 1 meal on mine haha, but luckily I am just doing it Sun/Mon and then surgery Tuesday morning. The hardest part for me will be the coffee, it can only be black and I am a splenda/soy milk coffee drinker.

  13. Hello everyone!!!!!

My name is Tamra and I will be revising from LapBand to Sleeve, August 15th!! I cannot believe how many of us have the same day haha.

I have had my band since 2010 but after life, babies, marriage and an empty band I am not heavier then my first surgery. I am nervous, scared, excited....everything you can be.

I am located in Northern CA :)

  14. Since I am getting bombarded with emails LOL I figured I would say hello before I unsubscribed lol

Hope everyone is doing good! Seems lots of changes.

even tho I dont have kaiser anymore I have had my band recently checked and everything is 100% great no slippage, no corrosion, etc. I am still 100% happy with my choice and have pretty much maintained my weight under 200 lbs for some time now.

Glad to see everyone talking, and take care!

  15. Morning everyone!!

Deff check out Walmart Candra, like Pam mentioned. I have friends who have to get prescrptions there because of no coverage, and they only pay $10 or $12 bucks. You might get lucky and be okay! DO NOT FEEL BAD ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT GAIN! I am a yr out and only down 28lbs as of today. At one point I was BACK TO 235 (214 is my lowest) which is bad when surgery morning I was 247; We all have life and issues, and we all have to deal with them somehow. Regardless, you are still smaller then when you started and that right there is something to be happy about! =)

Riley how is WW working for you? I go on and off the plan and can't seem to stick with it. Right now I am doing a basic low carb Atkins, eating under 20 carbs a day since I don't do well with them. So far down roughly 9 lbs in alil over a week and a half and sure the gym helped as well
