I weigh 210 and I'm 5'8" my surgeon told me he would not do a bypass on me because it was too aggressive. I have to lose 68 pounds. Maybe get a second opinion from another surgeon in your area. Yes, they fill your port with a needle through your skin. Read through this website and you'll find lots of info. I also got the book "weightloss surgery for dummies" and it's awesome with lots of good, simple info on both types of surgery. -

Gone 4 Ever - Thank you for your post, I had no idea about gaining weight the first few days. I'm going to my preop meetings/lab work with my surgeon tomorrow and then my surgery is on Friday. I'm going to check out the recipe thread on here right now to see what I should buy for my first week. I'm headed out now to buy my gas X strips! Thanks a million!

Surgery on Friday, back at work on Tuesday?

One more thing I forgot to ask . . .I'm having surgery on a Friday, it's outpatient and I will not be spending the night in the hospital. Do you think I can be back at work on Tuesday? I don't have a strenous job but I just can't miss much work, I'm in sales and if I don't work, I don't make money. I'm interested to know what everyone thinks. -

Lauren and Linda - thanks so much for the info. That's really encouraging!! I think I'll be fine. I've had surgery once before and I was feeling fine the next day, hopefully this will be the same! I'm really looking forward to it! This weekend is going to be the last big party for me, then it's time to buckle down! Any tips you can share for immediately post op? -
It sounds like he likes you being overweight so he can control you, when you get thin and have more confidence, he won't have the power over you. I say go for it and forget about him! The feeling you'll have after will be so worth it!!

Thanks for all the info!! I'm going to grab some Gas-x just in case! I saw they have strips that melt on your tongue! I hope it helps! I sell surgical equipment so I have to be back in the OR for work on Tuesday, it's nothing tough, I just have to be there to coach the surgeon. Twilight - why were you back in the ER the night after surgery? I'm getting very excited! 10 days and counting!! -
I've scheduled my surgery for Friday July 10th!! I'm so excited! I'm a little nervous also. My BMI is 34 and I'm a cash pay. Anybody else having surgery that day? I'm just curious I've read about something called a bowel prep? Do you have to do that for a Lap Band? Sorry, it's kind of gross and I'm not looking forward to it!!

I'm 5'8" and weigh 207lbs. I had my first appt yesterday to discuss getting the Lap Band. I have to lose 63lbs, I've been overweight my whole life and want to be done with it once and for all. Insurance won't cover it so I'm paying cash. I'm going to pre op support group on Saturday. I was wondering if anybody was in my position and how do you feel post op about your decision. How fast did the weight come off?

lblack - this website is full of info, check it all out! Thanks for all the info. From what I've read, nobody has regretted it. I just scheduled my psych eval and my PCP appt. today. I'm getting very excited!! I'm going to eat slow and chew my food very well!! Thanks for all the support! I can't wait!! -

Thanks for the info! I'm going to have the surgery in mid July. I'm going to my first support group this weekend. I'm very excited and nervous. I've read all the posts on this website and I'm afraid to eat solid foods! Let me know how the first fill goes! Did you have it as an outpatient and go home the same day? Thanks for your support!!
