  1. Hi all! I had a band put in in 2009. Lost 70 pounds, it slipped in 2012 and I've gained back 30 pounds. I decided something needed to be done before I gained all my weight back. Had a plication done and my lap band was left in cause it does give me some restriction. I'm in tremendous pain, nothing like the other two surgeries. Has anyone had this done? I would love to hear from anyone in my boat. I'm on day three and thinking "what the hell have I done to myself" that's the drugs and pain talking I'm sure. Chime in if you have two cents!! Thanks a million!!
  2. Thanks! I'll keep you posted. My first two surgeries were a breeze compared to this. The lortab makes me horribly sick. Ive stopped taking it and only taking it to help me sleep at night. I'm on tylenol for daytime pain. They gave me some Tylenol with codeine too. May try that tomorrow. I've already lost 5 pounds cause I can't eat and I feel like crap. Food doesn't even sound good. I think this is mostly gas pain but where my band is aches. Ugh!! I has to get better!!!
  3. Yes, I asked for a low profile port. My BMI was 32 and I didn't want to have something sticking out after I lost my weight. I've lost 40 lbs and you can't see a thing. I have to really push down on my stomach to feel it. I was afraid it would be hard for my surgeon to find for the fills becuase it was smaller but it wasn't a problem at all. Good luck!! I do remember him telling me to remind him on the day of surgery because he might forget and do what he's used to. My last memory before surgery is being on the OR table telling everyone "Don't forget my small port!!" and I was out!! You may want to remind him the day of also!
  4. I'm in the industry and just because your bill is $40,000 doesn't mean the insurance gets that much money. They hospital increases the prices for everything with hopes they will get more back. They usually get about 30% of what they bill the insurance. That's how come when we pay out of pocket it's only $15,000. It's so confusing I don't thinik anybody understands it. Just know that the hospital isn't making $40,000 for one surgery.
  5. I went on a first date with a guy I met a few weeks ago on Sunday night. He took me to a beautiful romantic restaurant overlooking the ocean. I ordered Ahi tuna and it came with two medium size pieces of tuna. I was only able to eat 3/4 of one piece. My date kept asking me if I liked it and why I wasn't eating more. I told him it was delish and I was just full. I was stuck. . .I didn't know what to say!! He now wants to cook me dinner on Friday! What do I say/do?? I've learned that the way to my heart now a days is not through my stomach!! I really like this guy and want to continue dating him. I have no problem telling people about my band, I'm just not ready to tell a new guy I'm dating!! Help!!

    First Date ??

PROBLEM SOLVED!! I saw him last night for a bit, we didn't have dinner but we hung out for a while. I took some of your advice and I went ahead and told him. I figured if he didn't like it then he wasn't the one for me!! He didn't care and thought it was a great thing for me to do to be healthy!! He said that he was only asking questions because he was so interested. He also mentioned that now he would "only have to buy one piece of salmon for Friday!!" Thanks for all your help and support. It's really good to have a place to turn to with questions like this!

    First Date ??

Thanks for your help guys. I'm def going to tell him, I'm just not sure when. I think I want to get to know him a little better. Maybe date number five?? All my friends know about the band, I'm not shy about it, I'm just uncomfortable about telling someone I'm dating for some reason. I know he'll totally understand and he wouldn't care. I'll let you know if I get the opportunity on Friday.
  8. What does it feel like when your band slips? I got stuck last night and threw up. Then I ate a few crackers later on in the evening and I had a strong pain in my upper right stomach (a little below where my band is) Then this morning I ate a little bit and I had the same pain. Both times I had to throw up the food to make the pain go away. Do you think it slipped?? I would love to know what it feels like if it does slip. I don't want to go and have another surgery and have my band loosened!! Thanks!

    First Base

I went to Dr. Korman and I had to do all of that too. It wasn't too bad, it just took a few weeks. I was a cash pay so I didn't have to wait for insurance approval. If you have any questions, please ask. I loved Dr. Korman!!

    How do you get un-stuck?

That's how I get unstuck . . . take a few BIG gulps of water very fast and be close to a toilet! Whatever is stuck comes right up, after the water. This sounds so gross but it works for me!!
  14. I know how you feel, don't worry, this is normal. I had no restriction in my band until my third fill. I now have 6.5cc's in my 10cc band and I have a ton of restriction and it's really starting to work. It took me about four months to get the fills in and get the results I wanted. I've lost 30 pounds and have 30 to go. Stick with it, it will get better!!
  15. I just got my forth fill on Thursday and this is totally happening to me!! I take one or two bites they don't go down, I PB, I get frusterated and give up, try again and it works!! Glad to know I'm not the only one!
  16. I was banded four months ago and I've lost a total of 10 pounds!! I was very frusterated! I've had four fills and now I have 6cc's in my band and it's finally starting to work, I think. I was wondering why every time I eat it hurts going down. Am I not chewing enough, taking to big of a bite? This is all new to me and I think old habits die hard. I feel very full in my chest after a few bites of food and most of the time it hurts going down. I'm able to keep most stuff down but I have slimed some food up! Protein shakes work great and soft foods go down (although very slow.) Is this the feeling I've been looking for over the past four months? I've lost 4 pounds in the last five days!! Any comments are appreciated!!
  17. I also had a fill on Thursday and I can eat a very small amount and keep it down, protein shakes are the best! They fill me up and stay down. If you can only keep down a little bit of water that isn't good. Your body needs food and water! I was thinking of getting a little fill taken out over this past weekend becuase I was really getting everything stuck then today I realized old habits die hard and I wasn't chewing my food very, very good and I was taking big bites. Good luck!!
  18. Thanks for the input guys!! I appreciate it!! I think this is the restriction I've been looking for but it's such an odd feeling. I can't eat much and I'm losing weight, I guess that means it's working!! :wink2: I just got to pay attention and SLLLOOWW down!! Thanks!!
  19. Anybody ever been to Dr. Korman? I'm thinking of going to him and I wanted to see if anybody else has and what they thought of his skills.
  20. Thanks for posting. I was banded on 6/22 and am going for my third fill tomorrow. I'm hoping to get more restriction. I have had some things stuck but I know it's because I didn't chew them enough. I'm hoping for more restriction tomorrow. Good Luck!!
  21. I was banded on 6/22 and I've had two fills since then. I feel very little restriction! I've lost a total of 7 pounds. I'm going in next week for another fill. I'm just so frusterated with my lack of progress. I'm doing boot camp 3-4 days a week and trying to eat less. Sometimes I feel my body is full but my head is hungry. Does everyone feel like this at the beginning? I'm thinking why did I spend $15,000 on this and it's seems to be all will power!!
  22. Thanks everyone for you positive answers. I'm feeling better. I have to just keep telling myself that it takes time. I only have 4cc's in my band and maybe I am one of those people who needs 7 or 8. Today I started REALLY watching what I eat and not snacking at all. I recently lost my job so being home all day isn't easy. Amanda - it's good to know I'm not the only one. I can't wait to feel the restriction you're feeling. Until then I'm working out at boot camp every day and watching what I eat. I didn't do this to myself to fail and I won't. Thanks again to everyone for their support. I'll keep you updated! It's really great to have a place to go to where people understand. I try and talk to my mom and she just doesn't get it and I guess I can't expect her too. Thanks :smile2:

    First fill....

I got my first fill today also!! I was banded on 7/22, I got 2.5cc and can go back in a month for more! I've only lost one pound since I was banded. It's been really hard for me and I haven't had much restriction. Hopefully now it'll work. I thouhgt it was really easy too! I expected it to be so much worse then it was! Good luck to you!!

    Eating ALL THE TIME

I'm so glad this post is here! I feel the same way, I'm three weeks post band and I can eat anyting! I feel like my body is full and my head is still hungry! Is that possible? I've got to start listening to my body and not my head!! I can't wait for my fill next Wednesday! It had better give me some restiction!!

    Starving help!

Hang in there! I'm almost three weeks out and I was miserable with just liquids! I finally got to eat mushies and I'd never been happier! You'll make it, you have too! This is not like some other diet you can cheat on, you'll really mess yourself up if you do! I'm waiting to get my first fill on the 19th! I'm so excited! After you heal, nobody tells you you'll still be hungry and able to eat until you get a fill. You go thought all this surgery and emotional ups and downs, then you got to wait 4 weeks for a fill! Good luck and stay strong, this will all be worth it (I hope)!!
