    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Yes, I decided to go ahead with it. Thanks for the luck!! It's tomorrow morning ... I'm a little nervous because my last fill was pretty painful... he had to stick me a couple of times with the needle before he hit the port just right. I have a pretty low pain tolerance so I shudder a little thinking about it! Hopefully this time will go smoother, and hopefully this adjustment will help kick my weight loss back into gear. I would love to get back to that 3 lbs lost-per-week range that I used to be at... Mommy of Two, wow, congrats at your success so far!!

I'm glad you're feeling better since your unfill, that's great news! Interestingly enough, I've been very focused on my water intake the whole week, have been drinking at least twice as much per day as I was the last several weeks, and I haven't had any issues with sliming or stuckage. I don't know if it's just a coincidence but I'm going to stick with it until it's proven wrong! :bored:

Oh yes, I would also be so incredibly relieved if we could just solve our troubles by drinking more water!! Too easy to be true though?? I guess we'll find out!! Good luck tomorrow!! Yes, please keep me updated with how your appt goes!

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

I'm actually not either!! lol, i think we are the same person!! Somedays I'll spend 8 hours at work and only get through a 16 oz water bottle. I think it has to do with the fact that I've been getting hungrier between meals (hence the need for the upcoming fill), so I've been having little snacks more often throughout the day (healthy snacks, not anything I shouldn't be having - usually either nuts or string cheese), but then I'm afraid to drink 30 mins before or after, so that cuts down on the available drinking time. Maybe this week I will take a different approach and instead of having those extra little snacks I will just drink water instead and see what that does. I will try anything at this point to help cut down the sliming!! Thank you for the tip willowcat!!

Awwww!! Well, I'm so sorry you're going through it too, but am slightly relieved to know that it's not just ME that it's happening to!! Please, if you can share any insight that your dr may have, that would be great... I'm really not sure what to do at this point... good luck with your appt!!

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Had my surgery 6/8/09, down 90 lbs, my dr and I are both very happy with my progress so far. But the last 2 months or so have been very slow with the weight loss, and lately I've been having a lot of stuck issues and painful "sliming attacks" - some lasting over 90 minutes. I don't know why, I haven't been eating anything differently... it's like all of a sudden my band became more sensitive. It's been pretty frustrating. I'm supposed to have my third fill in a couple of weeks, but I'm thinking that's only going to lead to even more issues with stuckage and such, so I don't know what to do. Has anyone else esperienced a sudden change with their band's sensitivity? Right now I've decided to just do as many liquids and soft foods as possible to cut down the potential of issues. But hopefully this new sensitivity isn't permanent... sigh.

akfmurphy, sorry about your knee! Glad it's feeling better now. Definitely get the fill - do NOT be embarrassed - that's what fills are for, when you need a little help to speed up the weight loss!!

Fellow Junesters, have any of your flown on an airplane since your banding? And did you have any issues? Taking my first plane ride this week, and have heard that the altitude affects the band and tightens it for a day or two... getting a little nervous about that.

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Band hell is where I'm at, too. No restriction at all since my first fill last week, but I'm doing well controlling my portions and making healthy food choices. When I was weighed at my doctor's appt last week, I was at a total loss of 20 lbs.... but 14 of that was the first week, so I'd only lost 6 lbs in the next 4 weeks. I was disappointed.... all that hard work for just 6 lbs!? But I finally convinced myself that it was better than nothing! Interestingly, when I weighed myself yesterday, I was down 10 lbs since last week!! I even double checked on another scale to make sure I was reading it correctly! I was shocked. I am attributing it to the fact that after my first fill last Tuesday, I went on liquids for 3 days (dr's orders). It was like the first week after surgery when I was on liquids and the pounds just flew off. So I think I may try going liquids-only one or two days a week to see if that helps move along the weight loss. I never realized how sloooow this process would be.

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Aww, Darlene, I'm sorry you have to go through another surgery!! That stinks...good luck!!! I don't know anyone that's happened to, but a friend of a friend just found out her 1-year old band slipped, so she needs re-surgery for that.... Stephy, what is your recommended eating schedule for after your fill? Trying to see how it compares to the one my dr gave me...they all tend to be different...I'm on liquids for 2 more days, then switch to real food...

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Had my first fill today! Wasn't expecting it... I thought I was just having a checkup and that we'd schedule a date for me to come back and get a fill. But no, he asked me if I was hungry between meals, I said yes, and he did the fill on the spot. Probably easier that way... otherwise I would've been worried about it! It didn't hurt much besides the pinch of the needle, and it only took him like 10 seconds to fill it. I was surprised at how fast it went, but then he mentioned that it's not always that quick and easy, sometimes it takes a little longer. They told me to do clear liquids for 24 hours, full liquids until Friday, then start back with regular food. I'm not expecting to feel much restriction yet, but it's a start!

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

ifyourstomachoffendsyou, sorry about your bad day! Welcome, BandGal50! I was banded on the 8th so I'm at the same place that you are... now that I can eat a little more, the weight loss has slowed a bit. I lost 14 lbs the first week, but now it's only about 2 pounds a week. But I have to keep reminding myself that I haven't even had a fill yet, so I can't expect things to be too dramatic just yet. Speaking of fills, for all of you who have had fills already... once we have one, do we start over with the whole eating cycle? Like, go back to the progression of liquids, mushees, soft foods, etc. And if so, about how long does the progression take before you're back to regular foods?

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

To me it is!! My stomach growled pretty much nonstop for the entire time I was on clear liquids, about a week and a half post-surgery! Once I was able to add protein shakes and yogurt to my diet, it settled down...

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Stephy - thanks so much for clarifying that for me!! And that's awesome that you're doing so well--- huge congrats!!! Amy - good luck on your upcoming surgery!! I was only required to do one day pre-op of Clear Liquids, and then 7 days post-op of clear liquids. I think it's great that you want to prepare yourself...I think it does help to take it easy on the stomach for a few days prior to surgery. I'm down 22 pounds so far, and I'd say about 20 of them are post-op (7 days of clear liquids will do that to you!).

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Congrats to all the recently banded, and good luck to all those with surgeries coming up! This is a random question, but I can't seem to find a straight answer online, and my surgeon never really went into specifics... I think he thought I probably knew how it worked: So I was banded on June 8th, and I know I need the fills to get it tighter and to get to the sweet spot and everything. But as of right now, is the band causing any sort of tightness around the stomach? Or is the band just around the stomach, and the stomach is still normal size with a normal opening?

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Hi all! New here...I was banded last Monday. It's been kind of a struggle the past week...more discomfort than I was expecting, but it's getting better every day. The gas pains are not as strong as they were last week, and I'm finally starting to sleep a little better. I had been having trouble getting into a sleeping position that didn't cause some stomach pain. I'm reading that a lot of people really aren't hungry the first week, but I have been absolutely starving! The Water, jell-o and broth really aren't doing it for me. My dr recommends the Clear Liquids for 1 to 2 weeks... it's only been 1 week, but I'm praying that when I go for my follow-up with him tomorrow that I can move on to full liquids/purees. On the plus side, the weight's just been flying off this week!
