In need of some serious advice!
I haven't been on here in a while, it sure is nice to be back! I know this is the one place I can turn to for some much needed advice! Here's the deal. For 8 months now I've been talking to an amazing guy. 2 months ago we decided to be exclusive. Everything is a fairytale except...his ex wife is still in the picture! They have no children together. I'm having a hard time understanding why she still remains in his life. Twice now my boyfriend and I have gone out with his ex-wife and her fiance. Crazy, I think!! I feel completely uncomfortable around her and I think that's only normal. He on the otherhand doesn't understand why I am uncomfortable with them remaining "friends". What do you all think? Is this something I should be bothered by? Should I be comfortable with someone I really care about still being associated with his ex-wife? Even if they don't have children? I want to be able to move forward with him and to focus on the future but I feel like it's impossible when he's still living in the past...

Just needed to celebrate

Food police
Someone please tell me I'm not the only one experiencing this! Here's the deal...I had lap-band sugery in August of 2009 and lost 100 lbs in 6 months. I had been doing everything by the book until March. For whatever reason I fell off the bandwagon in March. Started eating ice cream and all kinds of sugar filled foods. While I haven't gained any weight, I haven't lost any weight in over a month. The problem is my mom. She seems to have caught on that I'm not making the wisest food choices. But she must think that she's the food police because she always has some kind of negative comment to make regarding what I eat. Take yesterday for example, I told her that I felt huge and her response was "From all the banana-nut bread you've been eating?" This morning she was in my room while I was slipping into my jeans. They had just come out of the dryer and were a little bit tight. Of course she had some critical comment to make. She asked "What size are those?" When I told her they were 12's she said, "I don't know about those". Seriously, what is her deal!?! :bored: Has anyone else had an experience with a negative person regarding their eating habits and/or weight? This has been the hardest thing I've ever had to go through in my life. It is NOT easy living with the lap-band, especially when the people you live with are eating your favorite foods in front of you. I love food and I'm finding that I am actually mourning for some of the foods. I have definitely hit a bump in the road. I need all of the support I can get right now. She sure isn't making this easy on me. Not that I ever expected it to be easy...

Now they tell me....
Not to scare you- but the hair loss thing is true. I didn't have any hair loss until about 4 months post-op and then it just started falling out by the handfulls. It has slowed down a lot recently though-I'm now 7 months post-op. I've never heard of the no beef for a year rule either. It is getting more difficult to eat beef the tigther my band gets.

healthy foods.. Any Examples???
Not sure if the following foods are what you can tolerate right now but they might give you an idea for later on- some of my favorites are; cheese! string cheese or cheese cubes, yogurt (kroger makes a "carb-master" yogurt which is low in sugar and carbs), sugar-free pudding, sugar-free jello, cottage cheese, no sugar added peach cups sweetened with splenda, scrambled eggs, 50% lower sugar oatmeal (made by quaker), chicken salad, tyson grilled chicken breasts, cooked broccoli, wendy's chili, weight watchers turkey dinner, lean lunch meats, skim milk, etc. I could go on and on! Hope that helps somewhat! :wink2:

do YOU snack?
Just curious how many people have a snack during the day? I try to only have three solid meals during the day but sometimes I find myself getting hungry during the day, especially on the days I get up early and go to bed late. What do you think? Do I need a fill, or maybe I'm just not eating enough during my three meals. I definitely don't want to defeat the purpose of my band by snacking...but I'm thinking a protein bar or a slice of lunchmeat for a snack might be okay?

Just had to put it out there

How many carbohydrates a day to be considered "low-carb"?
Thanks for the help! I asked my PA about how many carbs I should be eating at my last appointment earlier this week. He said that if I could have no more than 20g of carbs at each meal that would be fine. So I'm shooting for less than or equal to 60g total for the day!

Where do you buy your food/nutritional supplements?
I get my protein shakes from Wal-Mart. I love the EAS Advantage carb-control shakes. Strawberry is my favorite. I also like the muscle milk light vanilla cream shakes. They are a little more pricey buying them ready to drink rather than the powder, but I can't stomach any of the protein powders.

How many carbohydrates a day to be considered "low-carb"?
The physician assistant at my surgeon's office has recommended a "low-carb" diet. How many grams of carbohydrates a day should I be consuming to be considered a low-carb diet? How about calories? Until now I've just been "eye-balling" my portion sizes and I haven't been counting anything. In the last couple of weeks I've hit a plateau and now I'm ready to try low-carb to jumpstart my weight loss again.
