  1. Ange - Good Luck tomorrow on your surgery. I will be praying for you!

Let's us know how you are doing. Linda

  2. Ange - How's the pre-op diet going? I know you were struggling a bit in the beginning (so was I). I started feeling better Friday (like day 10). Maybe just the downhill side (sometimes I think it is all mental). Hang in there, it will be worth it in the end.

  3. As for Dr. Nick. I really think he is great. His PA and staff are wonderful too. When I went to his seminar he was very personable. He almost tried to "talk you about of it" in a way. He was very honest about what to expect and really didn't push any one type of surgery. He said they each have value for different individuals. Our seminar was over 3 hours long because he stayed to answer every question.

I really liked several things about the sleeve: I like eating what I want and not having a list of "forbidden foods", I like not having a foreign object placed inside me (I'm a constant worrier and know I would always worry that something was wrong with a band), I like not having grehlin and not really being hungry - I do get hungry sometimes, it's just different, manageable, I am never "starving".

FYI - I have heard really good things about Dr. Davidson also. Some of my "neighbors" while in the hospital had Dr. Davidson for their surgeon and seemed pleased also.

  4. Barb -

I went in and tracked what you were eating (I guessed at some quantites). It looks to me like you might be a little bit high on carbs (65-70) but only from two items (grits and possibly the yogurt - not sure what brand of yogurt and carb count on that). Once you start soft foods and then solids, you can easily just sub those out for more protein dense foods (chicken salad, tuna, etc). This will keep you full longer and boost your protein with basically no carbs. For me, I am pretty protein heavy the first part of the day: I drink a protein hot chocolate with my coffee every morning for breakfast, for lunch I usually have deli meat rollups (w/ lt cream cheese, or spinach artichoke spread) or baked/grilled chicken breast (2-3oz). For snack, I usually have more chicken or protein shake. Dinner - I just have what I'm cooking for the family. Whatever it is. I eat protein first and salad, and then a bite or two of the sides (veggies, fruit, pasta, rolls).

  5. Barbannn -

    When is your surgery?

  6. Barbara -

Today's the big day! Cyber hugs and well wishes being sent your way. Prayers be sent up to the Big Guy with your name on them. Things will go perfectly. Keep us posted and let us know if you need anything. I'm in Dallas too and nearby. Linda

  7. Barbara,

I think if I were you and couldn't be on solids before the Holidays, I would wait until right after Christmas. A week should be fine to recover. I will still tired the second week but was able to make it through each day. On day 15, it was like someone flipped a switch and I was back to my normal energy level. I wouldn't wait much longer knowing what I know now. I wish I would have met Dr. Nick years ago.

FYI - tonight we went out for burgers after a late soccer game (remember, I'm 3 months out). My husband ordered a burger and cheese fries. I ate about 1/10 of his burger and few of his fries. I am still stuffed and satisfied. Technically, I cheated, but only ate about a tenth of what I would have eaten prior to surgery. That's what I love about the sleeve, I can still have it just not much of it.

  8. Barbara,

Let me know how the seminar went tonight.

I always have dessert. Typically a Bariwise protein bar. They are really yummy - like candy bars, I swear. Peanut butter and Caramel Crunch are my two favorites.

I would recommend tracking what you're eating. For me it just keep me accountable for my choices. I'm not really dieting, just tracking. Even my martinis get tracked (FYI - that's why I drink martinis, easier to track and less mixer calories). Even though I want flexibility and enjoyment with my diet, having to track it keeps me eating just 2-3 hershey's kisses instead of 15-20. I use livestrong-myplate. I hope this info helps. Take care.

Looking at your current diet, are you losing weight? Are you tracking it on any tracker (daily plate, myfitnesspal, etc ?

  11. Dee Dee -

Just a few more days.....hope you are doing well.

  12. DeeDee -

I have been trying to sip all day long. It's a chore. I am sucking on a SF popsicle now. I can feel every swallow land in my irritated (and smaller) stomach. Not pleasant. Walking hasn't been much of a problem. The more you walk, the easier it gets. I struggled to get in and out of my bed at first. Last night I had terrible gas pains and was in and out of bed all night. It got easier - now it's no problem. Everything is tender but manageable. My only advise on protein is find conc. protein (high protein/small volume). Yesterday I made a Nectar protein with diluted crystal light. All together was almost 18oz of fluid (just like what I was drinking before surgery). It took me 6 hrs to finish one 23g serving. Today I just made the nectar with 8oz of water and got all 23g of protein in about 90 min. Some of the bariatric drinks didn't sound to appealing pre-op because there was no volume for the calories consumed. I know see the benefit.

    How are you doing?

  13. Did not know this. THANK YOU!!!

I went to The GAP the other day, I was able to SQUEEZE into a size 10 in their jeans. I didn't buy them, not yet, but was excited about the 10.

  14. Good Luck on your surgery tomorrow. I will be praying for you. Let us know how you are doing.

  15. Happy 6th Month Surgiversary!!!!

I can't believe it has already been 6 months. Seems like just yesterday. Congratulations on your success!!!

  16. Happy New Year Dee Dee!!!

Thanks for the compliments. We had so much fun last night and I LOVED not being the "fattest girl in the room" - not even close. BTW - that's my $15 top with my $74 bra. LOL:)

  17. Hey Bob!

I am definitely getting stronger every day. I have been walking every day, although is wears me out (why I nap every day). Pain has been manageable, just taking liquid Tylenol (gag) during the day and the Lortab (gag) at night. I still have my drain until Wednesday - can't wait to get that removed. Yesterday, for some reason, I was hungry all day (or I thought I was), today, not at all. Maybe it was gas. Haven't had any problems in the BM department, liquid in, liquid out. I got to start on blended cream soups today. Yummy! Doesn't take much to get filled up, I get to start cream of wheat, cottage cheese, etc, Wednesday. I go on the scale this morning, I have lost 7 pounds in a week - I'm sure I'm dehydrated. I am supposed to go back to work tomorrow, I might need to work from home. Glad to hear you are doing well, take care and keep in touch.

  18. Hey Bob!

Just checking in. How are things going for you? 2 months post-op - I am loving my sleeve. I hit a stall this week (I know I shouldn't way everyday, but I just can't help it). Other than that, all is well. My friends tell me I'm melting away. Gotta love it.

  19. Hey DeeDee!

Glad to hear things are going well for you. I am still on full liquids until Tuesday. My mind sometimes wants to eat real food, but even just after a couple bites of yogurt my stomach reminds my head who is in charge. It's funny, prior to surgery, I could get in 120g of protein and 12c of water in daily-no problem. I didn't understand what a challenge it would be post-op. Now, I struggle to get in 6c of water and 60g of protein. I get hungry once in a while, take a few bites/sips and am fine for hrs. It past noon, and I'm still trying to get in my protein shake I made for breakfast. My weight is falling off quickly so that helps. I just get concerned that I can't continue to live and be healthy on 400 cal a day. I am sure it will get better once my tummy heals and I get to start solids. I do have my first "mushie" meal planned. I want refried beans with melted cheese, light sour cream and pureed salsa - I'm from Texas and I miss my Mexican food. Take care!

  20. Hey Girl!

How are you feeling? I am home today, and a bit sore on the left side. Completely NOT hungry. Struggling to get anything down, because nothing tastes good.. I will talk to you more later. Take care.

  21. Hey! I'm in Dallas too. Who is doing your surgery? I had mine last week (9 days post-op).

    Linda

  22. Hi Anna -

Congratulations on your decision. I know it can be difficult deciding on surgery and then picking a surgeon. I love Dr. Nick and his staff. I like that they are close to home and after going to his seminar, I felt very confident is his competency as a surgeon. He didn't try to sell WLS or any one type. He just gives you the facts and lets you decide. He is very passionate about helping people. When I started having back pain 2 weeks post op, he did not hesitate getting me into his office immediately and then downstairs for a CT. I continue to call his office for this and that. His entire staff is so helpful and accommodating. When is your surgery? Keep in touch and good luck..

    Linda

  23. Hi Barb,

I would LOVE to meet you for lunch on the 23rd. Let me check my work schedule, but I think it should be fine. Maybe some where in Plano??

    Linda

  24. Hi Barbara -

I don't really count carbs (I had pizza tonight if that says anything- not much mind you - had a few bites and then just at the topping off a tiny piece). I try to limit my white carbs but don't completely avoid them. I try to eat my protein first and am usually too full to have more than a bite or two of my sides (veggie, fruit, starch, whatever) at dinner. I probably eat between 40-60 carbs a day - sometimes less, sometimes more. I have been losing weight steadily doing it "my way". I believe some people do have issues with insulin resistance and may need to be more aggressive, but not me. To me, it's all simple physics - eat less than you burn and you will lose weight. I'm in this for the long term and want to enjoy myself in the process. FYI - I started drinking alcohol again (martini's) at 10 weeks post-op (don't tell Dr. Nick) and I like an occasional piece of chocolate and wheat thins are my weakness.

  25. Hi Barbara -

I was just thinking about you this evening and your surgery just around the corner. I know you are nervous (I was too) but I know it will go PERFECTLY. I hope you LOVE your sleeve as much as I LOVE MINE. Good luck and I will definitely send some prayers up with your name on them. Keep us posted on your journey.
