  1. Hi all - new to this forum and this is my first post ~ ! I am scheduled for the band surgery on 8/3 and I will be taking doing some car traveling about a week and a half later. My doc's office said that should be fine to do...but I'm wondering what I will be eating away from home. I will be eating out a lot and I feel I need to take charge and have lots of foods ready. I will be on liquids the first week and mushy foods by the time I'm on the road... My husband keeps telling me to postpone the surgery until after the summer - but I just want to do this! Any suggestions? Thanks everyone in advance.
  2. Hi all... I had my first fill last week (See my banded stats below) and a couple of days after that I started having pain around at the band area after I ate. I started out with one meal...then now it's at every meal, or even snack. I starts up after I'm done eating and last for a couple of hours. It's a pokey-sharp-achy pain that I feel when I move around, not so much if I'm sitting still. I can feel it too when I take a deep breath after eating. Doesnt matter if I eat a lot or a little. I've been chewing super well, the only thing I'm guilty of is not eating super slow...but I do eat slow-ish. I stop when I'm comfortably full. Also a few days ago when I was lying in bed, when I first woke up I took a deep breath to see if there was any pain...and (holy moses) I felt a little pop. It did it every time I took a deep breath and pushed out a little. It has not done that since and I wont be trying to feel that again! I went to see my surgeon today, he made notes, he thought I might be too tight when I was talking with him in his office. He said he's had other people complain of the same thing. But my first fill was pretty small. He watched me swallow with my fill in, then took out my fill and and he watched me swallow the barium several different times under floro. He said everything looked good. They put my fill back in and gave my another .8cc's more. Now I'm on liquids for the next two days so not sure if it will act up again. My surgeon told me to come back in two weeks if the pain doesnt go away, or sooner if it gets worse. So what do you fellow bandster's think - has anyone had any similar pain? I've been doing so great up until this issue~!! Thanks guys!

    Vitamin Suggestions

I take Centrum orange flavored chewables. NOT crazy about them, but getting used to them. I bite them in half and chew one half at a time. I chew them up a bit then swallow them down with Water. These look interesting...have not tried them though... BB Vitamins | Bariatric Vitamin supplements and Gastric Bypass Vitamins Good luck!

Great Blog with yummy recipies !!

I love great blogs - thanks for sharing this!
  8. My food menu from the clinic says weeks 2-3 post op (mushie stages) eggs = very soft-cooked, yolks runny...and week 4 eggs=scrambled. I cook a killer scrambled egg - very soft and creamy, not hard or fluffy. I'm not sure what a soft cooked egg is. I've noticed other people talking about eating eggs during the mushie stages...what is your take / experience ? Wanting something more to fill me up other than mashed tatos and blitzed chicken. Also wanting to start on oatmeal...not much of a cream of wheat fan. I have the low sugar instant oatmeal - not sure if that is okay. It's not on my list. Thanks all -- hope everyone is doing well with their band. (banded 8/3)
  9. Petra, thank you for posting that. I'm newly banded (8/3) and I started mushies this week. I've gained back 2 lbs and I'm barly eating anything! I think I've read other people having the same thing happen. Thank you for your words and best of luck to you! Glad the scale is moving in the "right" direction
  10. Banded 8/3 - hoping to stay in touch. Hope you are doing well.

    Banded 3 August 2009

Personally I could not wait to leave the hospital. Everything is so uncomfortable there. Plus they wanted me the heck out of there, gotta turn over those beds you know. I felt so much better to rest at home in my own bed. My husband took the first day/surgery day off with me and that was it. Then I was on my own for the rest of the week during the day. Everyone I talked to in my clinic said you're fine on your own day 2 and on... it only hurts to get up and down b/c your sore from your incisions. I agree on hugging the pillow on the way home. Bumps hurt! Good luck to you!

    Banded 3 August 2009

Hey guys, I was banded 8/3. I'm doing well...the surgery had me taking it waaayy easier than I thought I would be. Glad I took a full week off from work. I was not hungry and had a hard time with Water or shakes for the first three days. Day 4 and 5 my hungry returned. I started mushies on Monday...kinda bummed b/c I've gained 2 lbs since then...and I'm hardly eating anything! From what I've read that happens to some people. What about you guys? I've been eating mashed potatos, blitzed chicken and roast beef. strawberry smoothy with banana in the magic bullet-that is yummy. WOuld like to try scrambled eggs (I make killer eggs), but they are not on my mushie list. Thought I'd wait a while longer. I get really bad hunger pains when hungry. The gas is pretty much gone. I'm now mindful not to "gulp" when drinking as my doc says that is what causes gas from this point on. (he also said chewing gum and smoking causes one to swallow more air and cause gas) Hope everyone is doing well and stay in touch!
  14. Hi everyone, I was banded 8/3. My surgery experience was okay. The first 3 days were the hardest. Nausea the first day, had trouble even drinking Water. Did not want water, food or anything. Gas pains started day 2 and 3, and were better by day 4. I've taken it very easy and will return to work tomorrow. I've been really hungry too! Starting about day 4, I get more hungry every day. Tomorrow is my follow up appt with my doc and hoping to start on mushy foods tomorrow ----- cant wait for mashed potatos !! Good luck everyone! ~Renee'
  15. Hi all - Being banding Aug 3 ( ! ) - and I would like to ask everyone who has been banded... "What do you wish you would have known about the surgery/first week (or beyond) of recovery that no one told you..." My clinic's nurse told me yesterday that after the surgery the air that is used to pump you up leaves your body after surgery...migrating up...so that is why people's shoulders hurt the few days after recovery. Now that is a useful piece of info! Any bits of wise wisdom out there for sharing? I have no idea how to do the ticker yet...but I've lost 12.7 pounds in 12 days pre-op diet...on my own, no medi-fast ((yuck)). Excited and nervous! ~Renee' D.

    Chicken broth

make that "Campbells" chicken soup, not Swansons. Water it down if it appeals to you, just taste and go from there.
  17. Well I was banded yesterday and so far am doing okay. I had some burping yesterday, but I did get up and just walk and putter around the house, and every time I got up I would burb. It was a little painful, but really not to bad. I like walking around, it feels good. Today i'm burbing after drinking, but no pain at all. Just a lot of soreness/pain in the tummy/port area. I will try the cold packs. And the benefiber - as "that" has not moved yet. I've been sleeping on my right side with a pillow under my tummy (i'm sooooo not a recliner sleeper, I wish I could). Keeping up my pain meds now, but I dont know if they really cut much of the pain. My tummy growled this morning - boy was that painful! I've been drinking propel and had some broth and no more growling. Even though it's growling I dont feel like eating. I try to drink some Protein drink to when I take the pain meds so I dont get sick. So far no problem with that. Thanks for all the posts everyone - great advice!

    Chicken broth

I was banded yesterday and I thought I would have some broth today. The idea of something warm sounded good. I just bought a can of swanson chick soup and drained out the noodles and bits. I read that tasted better than just eating plain broth. I have bought both though. Anyhoo I water-ed it down so it wouldnt be too rich...a little bit more than called for - it was tasty.
  19. Thanks for posting everyone! Being banding tomorrow 8/3/09 - first one in line for surgery at 7:30 am. Here I go !!!! ~Renee' D.
  20. Great advice - I will try this too!
  21. I'm doing medifast (well not really) for my pre-op weight loss. I cannot handle the oatmeal and I think the shakes are awful too. i would love to try isopure - but when I clicked on a link for it Isopure plus - the nutritional value showed it was only 15 grams of Protein - are there different kinds? 1.00 off : Buy Isopure Plus - Protein Drink Online Let me know what I'm missing! ~Renee'
  22. Aug 3rd for me! Scared, nervous and excited. It's a little freaky to think there will be "something" in me. . Just started Medifast yesterday. I need to lose 15lbs before surgery. All I can say about the Medifast is yuck. I gagged on the oatmeal, tried making cookies out of them from an internet recipe - and still gross. I mean reallllly gross. They smelled like baby formula. Only tried 1 shake, that was NOT good either. I'm scared to try the soup - egads. I am substituting things for the same amount of calories that are low carb and low fat. Trying to stay about 1000 cal per day. I love my one "lean and green" meal a day! Anyone else try/on the medifast? Good luck everyone
