  5. hi everyone , so i have a question ... i was talking to this nurse at my daughters ped office today and she was telling me that with the sleeve u eat less then with a bypass ...she said that the tummy can hold alot less and that it's about 1/4 of a cup where as with the bypass u could eat about a cup is that true? and another thing i wanted to know is that with the Pasta rice ect.. is it u can't eat that because of weight loss or is it that it would irratate the stomach? like if u were to have dinner could u have like a little bit of chicken or whatever and a side? or would that be to much ? the reason i'm asking is that my husband is half italian and half lebanese and he's the one that does the cooking and most of the food he makes is like stews with rice or pastas with chicken or beef or lamb like all mixed in .... so i was kinda wondering what happends after surgery ? and a year out do u still have to chew your food like really really well? and if u don't do u vomit? or what happends ? since there is no band can u get ur food stuck somewhere? sorry for all these questions i'm just trying to get as much info as i can. thanks ahead of time:) also if u don't mind when it comes to leaks could u still get one like a year after or something i mean if u were to over eat or for whatever reason could u tear the staple line that far down or do the staples heal and close up like the outside where the incisions r?

    totally confused

thanks all for answering back .... i guess really i think i am going to try and find a surgeon that will do the sleeve here in florida... i think i'm just going to cancel my band surgery... my surgeon only does lap band so i guess i need to start all over again ... I really appreciate everyones replies...they really were helpful. The only surgeon that i have come across that does the sleeve here has only done 20 and that makes me uncomfortable... so i guess i need to research... for those of you who have had it done in Mexico what happends after the initial surgery? do u have to go back for rechecks or how does that work? anyone know or heard of any surgeons in central florida? or any ideas of how to find good ones? all info will be greatly appreciated:) thanks all and good luck to everyone:)
  7. HI all so this is my first post ...I have no clue what i'm doing anymore ...I thought i knew what i was doing ...I was going for the lapband...i even have a surgery date in july .... then i start reading about what some of all yall have gone through with the band and how u've changed to the sleeve ...I don't know what to do ...I read about the sleeve and it's like i don't really mind having that part of my stomach taken out .... it's jus the fact of the staples and leaks that freak me out ... anyway i don't look forward to going through what ppl with the band do either ....although i know 2 of my cousins that have the band and they have like no problems have dropped at least 100 pds they are at goal and i just thought that's how it would be for me . so now i'm confused if you don't mind i want to ask a few questions like. I just thought that I would be able to eat normal food in smaller quantities and not eat junk really but like rice and baked potatoes or some Pasta wouldn't be on the No list... although i understand in moderation. 1) How do u know which surgery is best for u ? I mean how do i choose? 2) What types of food do u stay away from with the sleeve? i mean can't tolerate and if u don't what happends? 3) so is there always a chance of leaks I mean after surgery like a a few months post op or after? 4) I read a post on here where someone wrote that if she drank Water then she woudln't be able to eat or soemthing ? is it that small of an amount that u could get down? 5) is it the same as the band where you can't eat and drink at the same time? 6) can someone that has had the sleeve for more than 3 months let me know what a daily amount of food is i mean what u would have for all ur meals ? sorry , but i really hope i get answeres i don't know what to do anymore.. thanks so much ahead of time confusedmommy
  8. thanks for replying.... it looks like a good amount for the suffering lol i mean obviously i know i won't cheat at all , but i just can't imagine nothing solid for so long i mean 2 weeks before surgery and then 3 weeks after lol like 5 weeks wow and that's not even counting the time with mushies and all that lol its' pretty scary yet exciting i guess :wink2: hopefully i'll end up losing a good amount to keep me motivated
  9. Hi .... I was just wondering ... I'm going to be starting my all liquid 14 day pre-op diet ughhhh lol and was wondering how much everyone lost while doing that ? and the nurse at my drs' office said that aside from shrinking the liver it kick starts ur metabolism for weight loss ... have u found that to be true?? :bored:

hi kat i'm not sure , but wouldn't it be anywhere inbetween? just a thought:)
  11. ok so i went in for my consultation ...mind u i am self pay so i paid 250.00for the stupid thing and the whole time i was there all they talked about was how the lapband fails ... i was told that i would only lose about 30 pds if was lucky !!!!! and that they have patients that have only like lost 10 in 2 yrs ... very negative feeling after leaving there ,,,then they kept pushing the bypass and sleeve ..... well when i told the nurse pract that i wanted lapband she's like fine but u know there r so many problems and then i just want u to succeed ... i mentioned that i knew 2 ppl mind u that have lost more than 100 pds on the band she said ohhh they must be 1 in a milliom and bla bla bla ..... so now it's like where do i start again .. i researched this surgeon for like the longest time and heard only good things about him but it must have been about the bypass instead .... can anyone tell me what surgeon u've used or heard of or anything in florida aside from dr jawad and dr kim cuz dr kim is like 16500 for self pay which is like 4500 more than dr jawad and i'm trying to find someone no more than a couple hours drive i'm in orlando ...... i'm afraid if i don't find anyone i'll be forced to just go back and have it done by dr jawad i mean does it really matter with where they place the band and what ur outcome is ? or is it all the same and then u just go home and lose to whatever amount of work u put into it? thanks for reading. I had already recieved a surgery date of 7/7 from dr jawad now i'm back to square one :w00t:
  12. thank u all so much for answering back... well just got back from my consultation and my husband went with me ...geez he asked like a million and one questions ...lol for some reason the nurse pract that was there was so against the lapband and they were pro bypass ...so he was like theres noway ur doing that it seems so invasive ...so he's like if u want to do the band go ahead and i'll be with u the whole way ....so hopefully he feels a bit better after asking his questions lol can't wait to see what happends after this :cursing:
  13. thanks so much ...I'm actually leaving now and thanks for the ideas it helped alot:)
  14. Hi all, I'm going in to meet my surgeon for the first time in about an hour ...well i kinda have a 2 hour drive , lol but nontheless I was wondering what types of questions i should be asking him and if anyone could think of any good ones you asked that you were happy you did:smile: appreciate it ahead of time:smile: thanks Katie
