  1. She never said why she couldn't have it, I thought maybe she was told not to.

I had to ask the nutritionist the other day if I could eat salad eventually...she kinda smirked and told me that they want me to eat healthy.

I can't go by what a lot is said on the boards...my doc is so completely different.:phanvan He doesn't require a pre-op diet, except for the standard one day prior clear liquid diet...I was surprised!:biggrin1:

  2. Bettina,

I feel the same as you (we are being banded the same day!) I am oddly calm also. I keep waiting for the nervousness and anxiety to kick in, but so far I am fine. I have done a preop Optifast diet for 2 weeks, I am ready for this! I wish everyone the very best of luck with this new chapter of our lives!

    Hi Kristin!

Glad to hear I am not alone. LOL. 2 week pre-op yikes, I am only required to do Clear liquids tomorrow. I don't even have to take anything to make you go poo...yay!

Are you staying overnight? My doc requires it...but they kick your butt out at 11am the next morning...lol.

Talk to you when we get out!!

  3. I miss salads, I want to eat fruit! I take my Vitamins and Calcium supplements but I still think that the natural food source is better than the pills...............Why is it easier to eat Cookies & ice cream than chicken & melon???? It does strike me as going against the weight loss & healthy mode. In this respect I do feel like the band is unhealthy. Hopefully taking the supplements, Vitamins etc makes up for it...............

Just curious: Why can't you eat salad? I do know the answer to the Cookies and ice cream question...its because its all sugar and breaks down quicker. chicken and melon have Fiber = harder to break down. (but not impossible).

  4. Good Morning Kiddos,

Just checking in and things seem to be going well. I'm 10 days post op and doing very well. The liquid diet is only 3 days away from being over. I'm scared to step on a scale though. I did show my hubby that I could pull my short down without unbuttoning them, slid right over my hips! That was so exciting!! Of course his question was " Are you still that sore??" and cocked that little smile of his. LOL

I hope everyone is doing well, and I'll keep ya posted at weigh in!

You're doing great! LOL sliding your shorts down in front of your hubby...I bet you weren't the only one excited...LOL.

    That is so awesome!:biggrin1:

  7. Hey Everyone...

Wow, I cant believe how big this thread had gotten!! I have been so busy with work, havent been able to read for a few days..

Looks like everyone is doing great and congrats to all the new bandsters...I am two weeks post-op tomorrow and as of this morning have lost 15 lbs since banding (37 total since pre-op dieting)...

Now time to read through the rest of the thread!

    Sherry

That is awesome!! You're doing great on your weight loss!

I like your progress chart you made is cool..I think I will do that too, its good for encouragement!!

    Take care!

  8. Bettina,

I'm feeling great. I'm down 16lbs in 2 weeks. I'm not hungry yet, which is great. I'm able to get most my Protein from mushies now, so most days I am down to one Protein Shake. One very amusing side effect that I have run into is eating the same food for 4 or 5 meals in a row. We have so much leftover since I am eating so little that I have the same leftovers a couple days in a row. We had pulled bbq pork on Friday for dinner. I took 2 tablespoons and put them in my mini food processor and it tasted great (even if it did look like cat food!). So that became Sat's lunch, dinner, and todays lunch. I think I am officially burned out of pulled pork. Tonight I will try pot roast. I think the consistancy will be pretty similar, so hopefully no problems.

When I was on liquids only I was running about 400 calories. Now that I'm on mushies I am at about 600 calories/day.

That is all awesome news!!! (okay except being burned out by pulled pork..lol) but leftovers, yeah...no thinking for the next meal..I'm all over that!! I magic bulleted my steak as a test run....cats were eyeing me up thinking i took their friskies...lol. But at least it still tasted like steak!

    16 lbs...sounds like Heaven!!! :)

  9. Erin,

You are so close! Copy the entire section under bbCode. Paste it into your signature section under Edit Signature. Click on preview post, and you should then see it as an image. PM me if it still doesn't work.

Hey! Your weight loss is going great!!! How do you feel???

  10. Yes, I am using tickerfactory.com. I have been trying to figure this out for days. I guess we will see if this helps.

    Thanks a lot.

    Erin

Erin I was able to click on your ticker and see your info...now its gone, so you seemed to be in the right place, just using the wrong url.

Why they can't just make this simple is beyond me:eek:

  11. I have done all of this. I have put it in every space available and it still shows up as http://blah, blah, blah LOL

okay stupid question i know, but i have to ask...are you using tickerfactory.com? or some other ticker?

nevermind, i see you are using tickerfactory...silly me!

you don't copy the one directly below the ticker.....you scroll down and pick the bb code..starts with url....copy and past that one in signature...when you do this make sure its the bottom...when you open it to edit your signature, it shows you what it looks like ...scroll down to the actual edit one...I was putting mine in the first box I saw and that is why it didn't work for me...its the second box.

    Hopefully that helped. Good Luck!

  12. You girls seem to have lost more weight than I have. I was banded 9/12/ and have lost 10lbs. I thougth with only liquid that it would fall off guess not. I also have not had any problem with the liquids could have had more than I did but stopped. Are any of you hungry?I am getting a fill in Oct. and am a little nervous? Will I be able to tell a difference?BrendaB

Brenda, you have averaged about 1lb loss per day...that is awsome!!!!!! Don't forget....if you have less to lose than others, you will lose it slower..age comes in to play too, activity level. You're doing great!!!! :clap2:

  13. I am being banded on a Wednesday and going back to school on Monday...full time student-6 classes. The doc said no driving for a week, but work/school is fine --just no lifting. So as long as you aren't lifting patients or huge files, it shouldn't be a problem. But you have plenty of time to ask the doc that before your banding...give him/her a call!

  14. I'm using CPAP, too, and the pulmonary doctor told me they'd do another sleep study to see if I still need it, when I've lost 75 or 100 lbs. My surgeon told me the apnea might go away when I've lost about 30 lbs. I'm using Swift mirage nasal pillows; it's ok, I'm not thrilled with it. My husband says it's a whole lot better than listening to me snore.

My question is, for those of you who discontinued CPAP on your own, how did you know when it was safe to do so? Since sleep Apnea can result in heart disease and stroke, weren't you afraid to discontinue it?

Hey that is a good idea, next time my hubby complains I am gonna ask him what is better snoring or air noise? I have the swift mirage too. Do you find yourself taking it off in your sleep? I did that twice last week and omg---legs got bloated again and got out of breath easier...ugh. I found a cure though......I barrette the neoprene band to the top of my head! That way I will have to wake up if I pull on my hair! Not only was I taking it off -which is odd- I have long hair so I actually have to sit up to take it off..I wear it like a hairband..but I was also turning the machine off too!!

I am glad I have it, but can't wait to get rid of it. :nervous

  15. Still can't figure this ticker thing out. Is it showing up on your side or just showing up as a URL?

Erin, go back to tickerfactory.com and copy the first set of codes below the part that says "http"...I don't even know why they put it there, we can't use it anyway..silly ticker people!

    Take care!

just checked: its the BBCode one starts with url.

  16. Okay, 2 nights in a row now with NO diaper! I bought him new Superman and Scooby Doo undies, and a 6 pack of tighty-whities, like Daddy. He has tons of undies now! No accidents so far...WOW!!!!

How's all our little men doing?

(Bettina, that story about the kiss on the bus is sooo cute! Good thinking about the dress...what an impact! LOL)

Thanks, it was pretty funny...the look on his face was priceless!!! Last night the phone rang, it was his friend from Russia, he met her while they worked together at Shop-Rite. She was here for the whole summer but has to go back. (he was teary-i felt so bad for him|)..anyway, she is coming back next year. She said she'd love to marry an American --she'd like to stay in the US she loved it here. One of his friends said oh like Keith? (that's my son) and she said yes.......hmmmmm :omg: :omg: :omg: Uh oh, may be trouble on the horizon. LOL she is a lovely girl..and she looks like Kirsten Dunst!!

*** I forgot to mention...I met my husband at Shop-Rite too. The first day on the job i saw him and thought, I'd love to marry him! (i was 17) Ha ha I married him when I was 21..and we have been married for 21 yrs.

  17. I love fitday. It helps me keep everything in line, in particular this first post op week I was trying to keep my eye on eating enough calories. Most days I'm close to 400, but yesterday I wasn't even at 300.

    Have fun with it.

BTW, any other fitday users out there? I only use the free online version, but was curious if anyone bought the downloadable version and how they are different.

    Thanks!

For now I have the free version on my desktop but I think I will end up getting the downloadable version for my laptop....I think it said you don't have to be online for that one, is that right?:)

  18. oooo----kkkkkkk!!! Huge honking difference between a bypass and a lapband.

That paragraph sums it up pretty well. I love it... but you missed the whole part about the malabsorption. Restrictive part is just the 1st step. What you have there is the SLEEVE. The gastric sleeve is the 1st part of a Duodenal Switch without the intestinal bypass.

And the Duodenal Switch bypass has the least regain stats of all the surgerys. I bet your sister had RNY. :)

Yeah my sis had RNY...I only posted that because Helensmith had duodenal switch in her title but then mentioned banding....I thought she was asking what is the difference. I was just giving the general idea.

Personally I would never let anyone cut thru my stomach--but that is personal preference.

  19. There was a guy on Entertainment Tonight or Access Hollywood or one of those shows lat night claiming he was the father of the baby. He was a photographer. I like Anna Nicole. She's so dumb, you gotta love her! HA! But seriously, having a baby and then losing a child within a few days is just tragic! The fact that he was on anti-depressants has been in the news, but I can't believe that had anything to do with it.

There is an alarming amount of deaths due to taking anti-depressants.

They are mind altering and some people just don't function properly..Smith prob didn't realize he mixed the drugs...so sad

The suicide rate (even though I know that is not what happened here) among teens taking antidepressants is staggering...we had 6 deaths in the local high school last year ...kids and antidepressants.:omg:
