    Can I take Advil.

My book is upstairs, but from what I remember it has to do with posible stomach irritation that would lead to errosion.

Day 2 of the liquid phase

Welcome to LBT! I don't have much advise for you on your liquid pre-op diet. I was lucky and only had to do it for 2 days before surgery, and 1 week post op. Hang in there though...the good news is that your weight loss will be getting a great jump start before surgery. I have added you to our September Bandsters thread. I hope you'll get a chance to read through it (at least some of it). There are others there that had longer pre-op diets. Best of luck!

    Can I take Advil.

I was told no, bandsters should not take Advil, ever. Try tylenol...maybe that will help.
  5. Here I am. Today I am doing really well and even put on real clothes (ie no sweat pants). I am down 4 lbs since Tuesday, and 7lbs since Sunday. Two days after surgery I was up 1/2 lb, which I assume was due to swelling / bloat. The 1st day after surgery I took hydrocodone for pain every 6 hrs. Day 2 I took it 1st thing in the morning, then switched to liquid x-strength tylenol. Day 3 I didn't take anything, and nothing so far today. Friday I got to take my bandages off, and found a small allergic reaction to the tape, which is itcy. I'm using benedryl cream for that. For the first two days I took a LOT of gas x strips. I think I had about 6 the first day post op, and 4 the second day. They are peppermint flavored, and surprisingly very good. I think they helped a lot reducing my gas pains. It was raining the first two days home, so I did a lot of walking around the house. I never had any problems going up & down stairs. Rolling over in bed was definitely a struggle for the first 2 days. But last night I even slept part of the night on my tummy :puke: . I have been eating about 400 calories / day. I should have more Protein, but havent wanted to drink thick shakes. I have been using unflavored protein with OJ and strawberries, which is quite tasty. lunch and dinner have been broth. I have a Jello cup at some point, and lots of Water. I'm not particularly hungry, but old habits die hard. I almost started munching on a pretzel the my daughter left out, just because it looked good. Fortunately I caught myself, lol. I do have a fairly large lump above my large incision. Probably the size of an orange. I called my Dr. about it yesterday and he thinks it may be a hematoma (pooled blood) and didn't seem to be too concerned. I go in Monday for my post op check up so he will check it then. It does seem to be getting smaller which is good. I was nauseous and dry heaving about an hour after surgery, but nothing since then. My tummy does gurgle and rumble a lot, but it's kind of funny. I was driving 48 hrs after surgery with no problem. I chose not to tell my DD's (7&11) about my surgery. I told them I had Dr. appointments on Tuesday and they would be giving me medicine that would make me tired for a few days. I really don't think they have noticed anything really different. I went to bed about 6:30 Tue when I came home from the hospital, but I told them I would be tired. I was walking pretty slow on Wed, but I don't think they noticed. My husband works odd hours and we don't really get the chance to sit down for family dinner more then a couple times / week. My oldest is a vegetarian, so we always have many meal choices for dinner. I'm waiting for one of them to ask why I keep eating Soup for dinner, but they haven't yet. Shell, That is pretty much it. Let me know if you have other questions. This last week will fly by for you. I'm glad all your tests are OK now. Good luck!

I bought the SportPharma chocolate too, but haven't opened it yet. Is it good? I have been doing really well with unflavored beneprotein and haven't been brave enough to open the sportpharma bag.

Oh, and I forgot....I slept through the whole night last night!!! I have been getting up 1 -2 times to pee in the middle of the night, and it is such a production to get out of bed without waking DH, and then getting back in bed and trying to get comfortable (usually the whole process takes about 30 - 45 minutes). It was great to finally get a full night's sleep.

Well that explains why some of us have been "runny" and some not. I have not, but I did not have to do barium after my surgery. They just did a plain old xray and mad sure liquids went down OK. That could explain the difference. I drove yesterday with no issues. Even went to the grocery store to pick up more soup and walk a bit since it was still raining here. Today DH is going into work later so after the kids got on the bus we took the dog for a walk outside for about 20 minutes. The true highlight of my day today will be that I get to take a shower!!!! My Dr's orders were no shower for 72 hours. I also get to take off all the band aids and dressings. He did internal stitches and uses steri-strips. The strips will stay on until they fall off (about 10 days), but I will get a much better look at the size of my incisions once all the dressings are off.

I have not had any nausea since coming home. My dr. gave me a Rx for anti-nausea meds that I filled prior to surgery to have on hand...just in case. I'm guessing you don't have that. Have you tried tums or something similar??
  11. One other thing to consider. The $10000 max might work, since the insurance companies alway pay the "usual and customary" fees, not the full cash price. The Dr's that take insurance are accustomed to this. You might be able to call your insurance company and see if they can tell you an amount. Will your insurance company cover pre-op testing? That could also help you spread it around.

    Protein shakes making me nauseated

Have you tried unflavored Protein powder in juice? I mix it with OJ and some frozen strawberries, kind of frothy like an orange julius. I've been alternating that with a milk based Protein shake and that has been helping. I also put the unflavored in sf pudding for protein pudding. Some people also like Isopure bottles. They are fruit flavored.

Not my issue here. I FINALLY had a bm today, but it was anything but runny. Are you taking pain meds? Could it be that?

WOW! I'm so sorry to hear about your IV. I have been taking lots of gas x strips to help with my bloating. The gas is finally moving out and I am able to move around better. I have been walking some, but it has been raining for 2 days, so my walking has been primarily around the house. I can't imagine how some are going to work already. You guys are awsome. I don't think I could face real clothes yet. I'm still in sweats and a t-shirt. I do have a sizeable swollen lump (grapefruit size) where I'm assuming my port is. It is very firm, as opposed to the gas bloat on the other side. Does anyone else have anything like that? Surgery for me was Tuesday (day 1), day 2 was primarily resting, taking gas-x, and walking around the house. Today (Day 3) I'm moving much better, and am able to stand up without too much pain. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Diane, I feel soooooo bad for you :omg: . What did they tell your husband? Stay on them, this just isn't right. What is your surgeon saying? Does he have privleges at another local hospital? Keep us updated. I'll say a prayer that it all works out.

I'm sorry this has been so painful for you:cry . Have you been able to do much walking? Getting out of bed has been very tough for me too, but today was much easier. I'm still very bloated and swollen in my port area. I have been taking tons of Gas X, and haven't had any of the shoulder pain that others write about. I didn't notice any difference between the hydrocodone and tylenol for pain management, so I switched to tylenol yesterday, and my head is feeling much clearer. Hang in there!
  20. I dont think not telling him means you dont want to be close to him. I am very close to my parents and sisters, I talk with them pretty much everyday (sometimes more then once). I chose not to tell them about my surgery because I just don't want to be judged. I made my decision and talked with my husband about it. I did a lot of research and felt very comfortable with my choice. I didn't need validation from anyone else, and I don't want people (even family) constantly asking me how it's going. My family all as varying degrees of weight issues. Weight was not something discussed when I was growing up. At any given point some of us are on a diet, and everyone has their own opinion what are good diets (mom = low fat diet, sister = exercise more, me = south beach). My mom couldn't understand why we wouldn't always eat her low fat food (remember snackwells???) even though they were full of sugar. Everyone has an opinion, and I'm a 37 y/o woman that doesn't want to hear them from my family. Good luck with your decision. You can always tell him later if you choose not to now.

Good luck today gonnabethin and mom of many! I hope all goes smoothly and you are up and walking quickly!
  22. I'm pretty excited and can't believe it's really here! I need to go pack a bag to bring with me. My surgeon says that I should be able to go home tomorrow, but to be prepared to stay overnight if necessary. I've read through all the lists, but wanted to see if anyone has anything unusual that came in handy at the hospital. Thanks!

    12 hours until banding!

Thanks everyone for all your well wishes and great advise. Everything went well, other then a small delay this morning. My surgery ended up being around 10:30, and I left Fair Oaks hospital at 5:00. I'm home, and just took my first dose of pain meds. I'm sure I will hurt more tomorrow, but I'm just hoping for a good night sleep tonight. Thanks again for all your support.

Had surgery today at about 10:30 and left the hospital at 5:00. All in all it went very well. I just took my first dose of pain meds. I did have some dry heaving in the recovery room, so they added anti nausa to my IV. I'm pretty swollen near my port, and pretty slow getting up & down from bed/chair/car. I plan on going to sleep very soon :notagree so I will give everyone a better update tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for their well wishes and prayers. My DH was great today. If any of you remember, he was very much the reluctant husband and felt there were better choices then WLS, but he came through with flying colors. I couldn't have picked a better or more supportive husband.:clap2: Thanks!
