    Looking for Help with Insurance

Hi everyone! I have been pursuing lap band for a few months now, with no luck. I'm 22 and have recently visited my orthopedic surgeon where he told me I have the knees of an 82 year old. Aside from severe arthritis, bone spurs, and depleted soft tissue I suffer from recurring patella subluxation. This means that my knee cap pops out of place on a weekly basis. It is an excruciating situation and my Doc says that the ONLY option I have left is weight loss, and fast. I explained to him that I have already pursued it and that my insurance doesn't cover it. He told me to pay out of pocket (I laughed in his face). SO, I'm going to appeal the insurance company. I'm hoping that because of my age and the situation my knees are in (patellas are inoperable because they are "loose cannons") that my insurance company will have mercy on me. I have Humana insurance. If you have any suggestions or experience with writing successful appeals please let me know. I currently have TWO orthopedic surgeons willing to write letters, as well as my family doctor. Thanks for any info you can give! :smile2::confused::crying::confused:

    Approved !!!

I am so excited for you! Congratulations! Any tips on how to get your appeal approved? I'm 22 and have just been told by my orthopedic surgeon that lap band is necessary. My insurance doesn't cover it. I'm really overwhelmed about how to even begin the process.
  6. Hello! My name is Cari and I am just getting the "LapBand" process started. I attend a seminar on Tuesday, and am excited about this journey. I have been doing research, weighing my options (no pun intended), and praying for guidance for many months now and am convinced that this is the best decision for me. I only hope that the issues of insurance, timing, pre-op diets, etc don't discourage me too terribly badly. Everyone have a great night!
