I saw my trainer on Friday. Here was her advice- walk for 2 min run for 1 min total time 30 min for two weeks then increase the run by 15-30 sec and decrease the walk by the same time. Increase run segment every 2 weeks

Shontel How do you progress- weekly? If you walk for 3 min and run for 1 min what is the next step?

Just to give you an update on this Triathlon training. I joined a local group called "Tri it for Life" that helps mentor you for the event. The training with them hasn't started yet. It's funny the mentors say "we have plenty of time to train" and my mind thinks I will NEED plenty of time. I have started lifting weights 3 times a week- this will help my body overall and especially my endurance. And last week I started the combination of walking/running on the treadmill. Mainly walking right now but at least I am running some. Right now walking 2 min and running 1- towards the end of the 30 min those minutes are v e r y long! But I haven't quit and going back in a few minutes. Have a great day all!

Congrats! Way to go!! Tiff what are the "funky tippy toe exercises"?

Shontel Congrats! We can do this together. I am starting the jog/walk routine myself. I am signed up for a Triathlon in Sept where I have a 2 mile run. It may take me from now till Sept to get ready. I completely understand about the jiggling- :001_smile: I have been walking for 2 min and then running for 1 min- for a total of 30 min- is that what you are doing?

ZUMBA- where have you been all my life????
attitudefree replied to filodough's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I just took my first Zumba class last week and loved it! I was talked into it and really wasn't sure what I signed up for- so I googled it. I was a little nervous because I didn't think my body could do what I saw when I goggled it- but all was fine. You are able to modify to your level of comfort- I recommend everyone to go Zumba!! -

What is everyone's exercise routine? New and long timers
attitudefree replied to kermit_ojp's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I do the eliptical machine 3 days a week, kickboxing once a week, body sculpting one day a week, and then line dancing (not very strenuous but fun) one day a week. I need to incorporate more weight strength training. I actually have an appt with my fitness trainer today and going to get her advice. As far as a goal I also have one. I am doing a triathlon in the fall. I won't be in the top tier to finish but I don't want to be in the last tier either!!! I am goal oriented so this will help me stay on track. Great committment to sign up for the Marathon. For anyone that lives in Cincinnati there is a great event in May called the "Flying Pig Marathon". I don't live anywhere near Cincinnati but I am going to get one of their t-shirts- The shirts says "I will do a marathon when Pigs Fly!!!" Go to their web site it's great www.flyingpigmarathon.com -

I was over cautious and took 3 weeks off. I could have gone back after a week but I enjoyed being off for 3 weeks and focussing on the new me. You will be fine after 9 days. -
Not sure if I can run either but I know I will be able to at least power walk.

My sleeve surgery anniversary will be Sept 21 and this triathlon is Sept 26 so it will be a two fold celebration (that is if I can finish the darn thing!!!!)

Pre-op when I heard "give up caffiene" I thought you have got to be kidding. I loved my regular coffee! I drank at least two cups every day. But I followed the rules. I weaned off caffiene slowly. Surgery came and I didn't have coffee. Now my Dr allows a cup a day and I may have one cup a month--- if that! I never thought I would pass on the coffee but my body actually does fine without it. Also the taste is different.

It doesn't bother me at all for someone to ask- how much weight have you lost? Most of the time my response is......"not enough!" but I don't feel insulted that they asked me -

Glad to hear you are feeling great and everything went so smoothly. Don't over do it- listen to your body and take time to focus on yourself. You deserve it!
