  1. Sorry Darlene, that's a royal pain. I'm having my first fill Auguest 11. Hope my ports where it should be. Surgery will probably not be as extensive or difficult to recover from this time. Blessings.

    Cheri

Thanks Cheri... I am just waiting for the insurance company to approve the "port revision" surgery. My doctor's office says it shouldn't be any problems with the insurance company and we should have an answer by next week. They also told me the surgery will take about 45 minutes and that my recovery time would be 2-7 days. After my band surgery, I was back to work in 3 days, so I am hoping for only 2 days of recovery.

I was so excited about having my band surgery (which by the way, was my first surgery ever). But to be quite honest, I am a little scared about this one.

Thanks to all of you for your support!!

  2. I am sorry to hear about your flipped port but I hope all goes well with the corrective surgery. Do you have the realize band or the other one? I ask because I have the realize band and have had a lot of pain at my port lately (internal like pulling muscle) and my doc said it was to be expected. Just wondering if I also could've flipped! How did you know yours had flipped?

    Anyone else having port issues?

Thanks Murphy... I have the "Lap-Band" not the Realize Band, and I had no pain at all in that area since my surgery. I don't know how if flipped... the doctor just told me that in very rare cases it just sometimes happens (of course it would happen to me though). At least the doctor told me that when they do the new surgery they will also take care of the fill at the same time.

  3. So sorry, what a drag. Is your doc going to be able to do it outpatint in his office under local? Good luck hon.

    Corliss:thumbdown:

Thanks Corliss... I'm not sure exactly what will be involved with the new surgery. The doctor told me it would be very quick and that they would do the fill at the same time. All I now is that they are going to reopen my incision near the port and reconnect the port to a better place. I have to call this morning to see about a date for the new surgery (hopefully next week).

  4. Aww, Darlene, I'm sorry you have to go through another surgery!! That stinks...good luck!!! I don't know anyone that's happened to, but a friend of a friend just found out her 1-year old band slipped, so she needs re-surgery for that....

Stephy, what is your recommended eating schedule for after your fill? Trying to see how it compares to the one my dr gave me...they all tend to be different...I'm on liquids for 2 more days, then switch to real food...

Thanks Gemini... I was so excited the day of my surgery and now I am scared to death.

  5. Darlene, as I recall, the one person I actually talked to about it said that the surgery to fix the port position was even shorter than the band itself, had virtually no recovery since it was just the one incision and she had no troubles. So, here's hoping they anchor the darn thing down with a little extra!!!

Thanks Cathy!! This does put my mind somewhat at ease.

  6. You and I had our surgery on the same day. I too am having no problems or pain. I am now back on regular food... and I don't feel restricted in any way. I do think that I am eating less, but I don't feel like I can't eat more. I am hoping that will change after my fill next week on the 15th.

Okay... maybe I do have some restriction. I went out to dinner last night and had a veggie burger with fried zuccinni (probably should have just ordered the burger). Normally, I would have been able to finish my entire meal and then start picking fries or something off of my husbands plate . I didn't do that... I was not able to finish the entire burger... yeah!!

I am really looking forward to my fill next week. I want to feel more restricted than I do.

  7. Hi! I'm a June 18th bandate too. I still have some restriction--particularly breakfast, and also if I just have meat. My stomach definitely does not take to overstuffing it with dry meat. Or with egg whites. Also, when I just eat Protein, and follow the no-liquid protocol, I don't get hungry. I do sip 20 oz. of iced Decaf latte (3/4 cup milk) with Splenda in the morning and again in the afternoon. I think the protein in the milk keeps me from getting hungry. If my meals are more liquidy then I definitely can get more down. Im not that fond of the Snacks I have in the house (like sf ff choc. pudding or yoghurt so I don't overeat those. I'm more likely to grap a Propel. I do have a small can of V8 and I try to drink some diet V8 splash to help me get fruit and veggies. Real veggies with my meal tend to add liquid to the meat and I get more food in me. Don't know if that's good or bad. I wonder if the Dr. actually gave me a bit of a fill when he installed the band. I still have to stick to small swallows and bites and chew well or I can feel very uncomfortable.

Last night I went out to dinner and had a veggie burger and fried zuccinni. I guess I do have some restriction, because I couldn't finish the burger. Before I could have eaten the whole thing... and then grabbed some fries from my husbands plate.. lol

I am really looking forward to getting my fill next week. I don't want the weight to come off too fast... I would be happy with 2-3 lbs a week in the beginning. And I expect that to slow down once I get closer to my goal. I have almost 130 lbs to lose... I would be happy if I could make my goal within 2 years.

  8. I remember this feeling..like you might have done all this for nothing.. I also remember when I went to the doc for my fill.. He said, "Your life is about to change.".. and BOY DID IT EVER! Don't worry, you will KNOW YOU HAVE A BAND after you get a fill! Enjoy it while you can! lol! Good luck!

Thanks for this info... I had my surgery on the 18th of June. Since I have been back on regular food, I am not feeling any restriction. I know that I am eating less, but only because I am trying to eat less. I definately feel like I can eat more. I was hoping to feel more restriction and from you post it sounds like I will. My first fill will be next week on July 15th.

  9. Some docs put in some fill at the point they install the band. I am glad mine didn't. I think the writers sittuation is a perfect reason not to.

  10. Hello, All. had my surgery yesterday, And i am doing great..some gas pain in shoulder, just a little sore.I am amazed.that I feel this good, And would like to be able to eat, but i am going to wait.

Good Luck Ritalou!! DO NOT EAT TOO SOON!! I actually thought I would have a difficult time with the liquid diet and mushy diet, but I didn't. It was a lot easier than I anticipated.

  11. I am on pureed food too. Yuk. Lol. That is kinda weird your dr is going to push you to eat solid foods by a certain date, you would think he would hold off on the fill until he knows you can eat the solid food with no problems. My dr said she is not going to force a fill, when I am ready for one and eating with no problems she will do a fill NOT before. I guess every dr is different though. After going through all this I don't think I want to deal with a fill right away, errr, but I have to though.

It is still 2 1/2 weeks before I get my first fill. I am not having any problems with anything that I am eating as of yet. I will on mushies for 1 week and then on to the regular food. My doctor did however tell me to try one thing at a time. He told me to take very small bites, chew thoughouly and swallow slowly. He told me to keep a list of food that works and foods that don't work.

  12. Wow, I sometimes wish I wouldn't of had to go on the pre-op diet, I mean I had no advance warning or nothing, the nurse called me up one day to schedule the surgery, then the next day she faxed me a diet telling me I had to start that that day, I am like huh? lol. It was alittle hard, I won't lie, I cheated a couple times, I mean I literly went from eating anything in the morning to being told I can't eat nothing for another 2 weeks unless it's certain liquid stuff. I was alittle upset with the nurse though. The other surgery I had was on my achelis tendon, it had to be stretched again. I have had so many surgeries it's rediculous. Lol. I was a accident prone child . What type of things are you eating now?

I can now eat mushies (WooHoo). I am planning on having a scrambled egg tonight with some applesause possibly and a Protein Shake for dessert (for lunch today I had a yogurt , some cream of celery Soup & a Protein drink). The doctor told me he wanted me on regular food by the 1st. My first fill appt will be on the 15th and he wants me to be paying very close attention to what it takes to get me full. He says the more information I can give him... the better the adjustment will be.

  13. I have to take the meds every 4 hours now, I had 2 surgeries within 2 weeks and what a mistake, my body is healing at a very slow pace. I lost 19 pre-op and 1 since surgery since I am not able to be up and about that much . how have you done?

My doctor didn't even make me go on a pro-op diet (although I did liquid only for a day and a half on my own). So needless to say... no weight loss prior to surgery. I have lost 12lbs since the day of my surgery. :)

What other type of surgery did you have? I am 41 years old and this was my first surgery EVER!! The only other time I have been in the hospital for myself was when I was giving birth to my sons.

  14. LOL. I need to get some healthier cookbooks. I have a couple, but most are norweigen, and there is alot of lard and all in those recipes lol. I am feeling better, well, actually it is the pain meds, haha. If I don't take the pain meds I still have alot of pain, so my husband has a alarm set for every 4 hours so I will take my meds. I feel like I want to sleep all the time with the meds, so hey, if it takes my mind away from the pain I will do it. That is awsome we had surgery one day apart.

I have only been taking the pain medicine (liquid Vicodin) before bedtime for the past 4 days.

How much weight did you lose prior to your surgery?

  15. LOL. It is the best feeling to have your husband or mate as your number one supporter. I am not sure how I would be doing if he wasn't my biggest supporter. He even went on the pre-op diet with me to help me stick to it  Him and our 3 year old son do everything they can to support me. They will eat what I have to eat and all, so they ain't eating a bunch of stuff in front of me. My son will choose a yogurt instead of mac and cheese when I have to cook so he can eat what I eat. Well, sorry to ramble.

Getting my boys to eat what I was eating would have been impossible. (My boys are 19 & 17) The day I came home from the surgery.. they all wanted pizza (which was actually okay with me). Once I am back to eating regular food, I will be going through all of my Weight Watchers cookbooks and making healthier meals for the entire family (I will just have to double the recipes). They support me!! They just don't want to starve! lol

    Are you feeling better Mandie?

  16. Thanks, That's great you only have had a sore throat and cough, (well from my perspective anyway, :bored:). I am very glad I did it too, I just knew I should of waited a couple more weeks to get it done so both surgeries wasn't so close. I wouldn't be going through all this pain. But I just wouldn't listen to my husband, errr. LOL. It is so worth it. I can't wait til I recover all the way and can really get back to the gym.

It sounds to me like our husbands came from the same mold (LOL)!! My husband is also very supportive and I think he worries about me more than I worry about myself. It is great to have so many supportive people around me (my hubby, my sons, my parents and all my friends).

  17. So I went to the dr today, thank goodness there is nothing seriously wrong, I am just taking longer to heal then normal, I guess 2 surgeries within a couple weeks isn't a good idea. That was a big relief off of me and my husband today, I guess it gives me another week of reasons to be in bed, LOL. I got a great husband, he was so worried and going nuts trying to figure out what was going on. Well, off to bed I am, thought I would just put a update. Oh yea, anyone got any awsome pureed food recipes you can pass this way I would love it.

    Mandie.

Great News Mandie!! Glad to hear everything is okay. The worst part of my recovery so far has been a sore throat and cough. I had my follow up appt yesterday. The doctor told me if my cough got any worse that I should see my regular doctor. It actually feels a lot better today. :bored: Otherwise, everything else is healing great.

I am soooo glad I made the decision to do this.
