  1. Holy Moley - 100 pounds in four months?! You guys are amazing. Wing, don't set yourself up for disappointment. 100 pounds in four months is unusual. But you will get to 100 pounds one day.
  2. We're waiting for you Jilly. Take care of yourself.

    NSV shout outs

My son flew in from Canada with 3-yr-old granddaughter. We were waiting for them at the airport at the bottom of the escalator. As they got on at the top, son says to her "There's Grammie and Grandpa". She looks down and tells him "That's not Grammie, that's Auntie T". Auntie T is my skinny minnie daughter. Did I mention she is now my favorite grandchild? :-) P.S. I went shopping for new jeans because I refuse to do baggy these days. I was shocked because I had skipped right over the size eight and am now a SIX. No way am I a SIX - but I am. (It's due to the freaky new sizing. When I used to weigh 20 pounds less than this I used to be an eight/nine)
  4. Go alone. You don't need the chaos. You will be fine. All the bariatric patients are together and you all hang out. I was going alone but family insisted daughter come with me. She left the next morning and I was alone after that. No problem at all.

    Alberto Aceves, MD- Family too?

Ditto to all of the above. I was just there as a support person and it was quite comfy.
  6. So you claim he is lying? What evidence do you have to back that up?

    Dr. Aceves

This was getting lost on the other thread: # Almanza Reyes The surgery / recovery aside it looks like the experience with Dr. Reyes is very safe in general. With the escorts throughout your stay. Is the same true for Dr. Aceves? Also, I have been unable to find a site for Dr. Aceves that lists how many days in the hospital will be required and if you are placed in a private hotel room for some of your stay. Is hotel included in the package? I cannot seem to find any pricing information about Dr. Aceves. Thanks again for all your help. dinner. The hospital room was immaculate as Rosebud mentioned. I believe that housekeeping came into the room about 3x a day to mop etc. My hubby is 6'1 and managed to sleep quite comfortably on the leather sofa in the room. Towels etc were provided for the shower. So everything except for companion food and last supper is covered by his fee. I don't know what the charge would be for an extra night. Somebody should move these posts out of Dr. Almanza'a thread. Dr. Aceves deserves his own thread, not intermingled with Dr. Almanza's thread. __________________ band to sleeve surgery 4-29-09 Dr. Alberto Aceves OregondaisyView Public ProfileSend a private message to OregondaisySend email to OregondaisyFind all posts by OregondaisyAdd Oregondaisy to Your Contacts #308 (permalink) Today, 06:39 PM pslr2301 Registered User Join Date: Dec 2009 Posts: 5 Gender: Female City: Victoria State: Texas Re: Dr. Mario Alberto Almanza Reyes Thank you Kris and about how much does the VS package cost? pslr2301View Public ProfileSend a private message to pslr2301Send email to pslr2301Find all posts by pslr2301Add pslr2301 to Your Contacts #309 (permalink) Today, 07:09 PM artteacher698 Registered User Join Date: Aug 2009 Posts: 20 Gender: Female City: Basking Ridge State: NJ Re: Dr. Mario Alberto Almanza Reyes I think he has a special now for $8750. I understand from your post that you spend one night at a hotel and the entire trip is about 5 days. Barring any complications that is. If you need to stay an extra day is that charged separately? I'm 99% sure he would not have charged for the extra day. He found a hiatal hernia in both myself and my sister and didn't charge extra for the repair. __________________ VSG 5/27/09 Alberto Aceves M.D. 23 prior to surgery. Dr. Aceves

With Dr. Aceves you fly into San Diego. His driver, Ernest meets you at the airport and drives you to the hospital. Dr. Aceves' staff meets you there and efficiently walk you through the blood/urine/EKG/chest xray. Ernesto then drives you to the hotel for the night. You have your last meal - lol. Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos either meet you there that evening or first thing in the morning to discuss the surgery, aftercare, diet, etc. Ernesto picks you up in the morning. The Anesthesiologist meets with you at the hospital and also the Internest to go over your history and test results one last time. You have your surgery, a leak test is done, and go to Recovery room. After that you return to your room. All rooms are private with private baths. There is a large couch there for your escort to use. I was quite comfortable on it when I went with my sister a few weeks ago. The next day they do another leak test with blue dye. More recovery. Both Doctor Aceves and Dr. Campos come in to check on you at least 3 - 4 times during the day, each day. Dr. Campos is there almost 24/7 if any complications arise. On day three there is another leak test with a contrast element and xrays. You rest one more day. The next morning, if you are ready, Ernesto drives you back to the airport for your return. Sis was not feeling all that well and Dr. Aceves asked if she wanted to stay and extra day. The hospital is well equipped and the nurses very kind and efficient. It is probably the cleanest hospital I've ever been in. There is an attendent there that cleans constantly. All in all it was one of the best experiences I've had with surgery and being in a hospital.

    Dr. Aceves

There are many, many of us who have been to Dr. Aceves. We are all happy. I've not heard on this board or others of any complaints or complications. I cose him for his experience and also because he has the F.A.C.S. designation which was important to me. He is the president of the Mexican College of Bariatric Surgeons.

    Total frustration

Your original post said you were 12 days out and eating a ton of food.
  15. Ya gotta try this. Coffee AND Protein. Hot or cold. I use half milk and half Water for even more protein. Yummy. I ordered it through Amazon. Make every moment CLICK with the first and only espresso protein drink!

    Total frustration

Holy Moley. I just saw this. You are eating all of this at 12 days out? At that point I was just on to full liquids and was having a hard time getting that down. I am surprised at how different each doctor is about post op diet. But even had I been allowed solids at that point I could not have gotten all that food in in one day. I did see that folks cautioned you about the calories and you are heeding that advice. Things will get moving again. Stalls happen. Stalls are evil, but stalls will happen. This won't be you last. And you will LOSE. I've gone through a number of frustrating stalls but I'm getting there. You will too.
  17. I am so sorry this has been such an ordeal. It is totally unnecessary as most infections can be prevented with proper precautions. Thank you for posting this. As you can see, you've given at least one poster the information she was looking for.

    Dr. Umbach in Las Vegas?

From my experience. I tried calling their office and never got a response. Ding, ding. That doesn't bode well for me. #2 We have another member who had him do her surgery and was not informed until AFTER that she was his first VSG ever. That was not honest. That is what I know of this surgeon. I also went to the seminar with the group that works out of UMC. I liked them but they didn't have a lot of experience with the sleeve. I was eager to have the surgery done and they estimated the self-pay to be $21,000 - $24,000. I just could not do that immediately.

    Normal!

She tends to take longer to heal. She has lupus. It is in remission but maybe that has something to do with it.

    Normal!

I just looked at my ticker a little while ago and realized that as of today I am NORMAL!! (I'm sure my family may disagree lol) My BMI is NORMAL. I'm not even a teeny bit overweight - at least according to the charts. Nine more pounds and I will be looking pretty darned good and thirty more and I'll be back to being 22 yrs. old again. Well, 22 with wrinkles.

    Normal!

January is already nuts, but definitely February. We'll need to set a date soon. I haven't seen postings by Ms. Yates. How is she doing?

    Normal!

Itstime how are you feeling? Sis is still a bit rocky. I'm so excited. Today I was trying to find a little jacket in my closet to go with my jeans. I figured they 'grew up' with me (stretched as I stretched) so they could probably 'grow down' with me too. Um, wrong! Every one I tried on made me feel like a kid trying on Mommy's clothes. :-) So now I have to go around nearly naked because I have so few clothes that fit right now but I don't want to buy more because I'm on the verge of dropping another size. I have to clean out my closet. It is huge and stuffed full but nothing to wear. Some of the stuff still have tags on them because I always bought at year-end sales for the next year. I am going to have to learn how to sell on ebay.
