I went thru exactly the same thing. I now take dulcolax daily, papaya enzymes after every meal, 1 meal that is oatmeal daily, and i bought a reusable ****** bottle and literally do a warm Water enema about every 3 days and im almost normal. sometimes i have 1 BM a day, sometimes its every other. im 6 weeks post op. Hang in there, and I agree, of all the things that are difficult about this journey- the constioation has been the worst part!

Anyone tried prune juice? I drink gerber appleprune juice, if I don't see one in a day. Please know that every product that is used to go to the bathroom better does pull Water from you intestines thus needing more water to go to the bathroom. They can be addicting as well. PLEASE TRY to get more involved with fruits like melons vegetables like cucumbers to add more water in. IT WILL GET BETTER !

This is gonna be TMI and nasty, since it's all about constipation.

30 days post-op and yesterday was the absolute worst day I've had.

I can't recall being in as much pain and discomfort in all 43 years of my life. My post-op Constipation has been ongoing. Generally there's been 3-4 days between bowel movements and every bowel movement has taken a lot of effort. Yesterday...yesterday was a whole new world of suffering. I was on day 4 since the last BM and woke up knowing I was backed up and I was going to have one at some point soon. Except 5 trips to the bathroom yielded nothing but straining and discomfort. I ended up going home early because I was so uncomfortable. Came home and downed 60ml of milk of magnesia and prayed it would work fast. It didn't. Ran to the store for Miralax (which my surgeon wanted me to avoid for the time being) and an enema kit. Drank the Miralax, despite knowing it wasn't going to actually do anything right away, but would hopefully start the process of helping going forward. Called my primary care because I was in so much pain and was pretty much told to drink MoM and start on Miralax and definitely use the enema to hopefully break things up and make it easier. Waited a couple of hours to see if I could pass anything on my own or if the MoM was helping. Nothing but liquid and blood from hemorrhoids for my trouble. Finally gave in and used an enema. Met with even higher levels of pain as I expelled the liquid, but nothing else. Spent 20 minutes on the toilet in agony and tears, on the verge of asking to be rushed to the ER. I could not physically stop straining to pass what was blocked. I was finally able to get it to pass and was horrified by what had finally left my body. I am 99% certain I was on the verge of a fecal impaction based on what finally came out. The diameter was about 1.5" and probably a total of 12" in length. I ended up having one more loose movement about 45 minutes later which may have been from the MoM or remnants of the enema...not sure. Then followed 8 hours of added agony in the aftermath where extra strength Tylenol did very little to ease the discomfort. Sitting down? Hurt. Standing up? Hurt. Lying down? Hurt. Went to bed around 10pm. Fell asleep around 1am when the pain finally started to subside.

No BM this morning. Mixed Miralax in with my Breakfast Protein Shake. Not sure if I should do more MoM today or not. Need to go to the store and get Benefiber since the Celebrate powder clearly doesn't have enough Fiber in it for me. But the worst thing is that I am genuinely afraid of trying to go to bathroom now. I can't go through that again. I would gladly take the pain from the first two days post-op back if I could get rid of this constipation. I really hope that I can get past this.

I AM SO SORRY FOR YOU! Have you tried anything natural like prunes. Apple sauce, Smooth Move tea ? PLEASE KNOW THAT THE PRODUCTS YOU ARE USING STRIPS YOUR BODY OF NATURAL FLUIDS. You have to take in more fluids. Fell better

  3. My surgery was same day n I have been stuck for two full weeks with no loss. I feel like I am failing at this already and I consume 600 or less calories a day . I am right there with you. This is supposed to be a real thing the two week stall but it doesn’t make you feel any better when your scale won’t go in the direction you want it to.very frustrating and disappointing!
    Are you retaining Fluid?

  4. hi everyone, I am feeling really well. Still cant tolerate Protein Shakes, no matter what brand/flavor/homemade it is.
I am still able to get my Protein in through other approved measures.
I cant wait to move to thin purees this Friday and eat a little more protein based foods other than yogurt. So far I am down 18lbs since surgery. Hope you are all well and wishing everyone a speedy recovery. Cheers to August!
I drink more clear premiere mixed with herbal tea..its much better

  5. I'm 4 days out and just now feeling like the pain is manageable. I agree with the new stomach sensations. My tum is always gurgly and rumbly now, which I feel like I used to associate with hunger. So I'm feeling like I'm always hungry, even though I'm 100% sure that I'm not. It's quite annoying. Did anyone else go through that a few days after surgery? Did it go away? I hate feeling like I'm hungry constantly!
Yes once you start pass just liquids it will calm down..don't pay attention to your notices but what you should have in a day. Your awesome!

  6. today is day 12 . I still have some incision pain near my navel. I also had a hernia repair so ….. The dizziness and leg cramps where awful the first week. I slowly walked and added my distance each day. Today I did my first half mile dog walk. After a few days I really tried to focus on high Protein and Fluid intake. I note earlier the premiere protein clear is fantastic with tea or other fruit juice if the taste is a little weird. when I first came home the taste I could not bare. I was drinking it fine before surgery.

Oh tip Talipia is loaded with protein and vitamins.....I pureee that with seasoning it was so good

I'm having just a horrible night and having a bit of an emotional breakdown-feeling scared, powerless, out of control. Right now, I feel like I made a huge mistake and have somehow made my life worse by having an irreversible surgery.

I've had a horrible time since I got home. I'm hoping this will all change and I can at some point reflect back on this post and declare myself a drama-queen.

I'm 5 days out. I still have a lot of gas and it doesn't seem to go away despite my walking and doing everything I should.

I can't tolerate Proteins yet and seem to be working out an ileus that I fear will never go away.

I still have muscle pains and not doing laps around the block like some of the other people in my surgery center. I feel like I'm way behind in healing.

The worst The dizziness. And by dizziness, it's more a lack-of balance. My blood sugar and pressure are fine but when I do my walks around the block, it's like I'm swaying, off balance and my eyes can't keep up. I feel like light-headedness I'd understand but this I don't.

I'm scared Ive forever messed up my body and Ill have these side effects forever now.

Feeling overwhelmed and scared, dramatic but-any words or advice would be appreciated.

First ,,,STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS! We are in our own lane we are just on the highway together....Have you spoken to your healthcare team, when I your follow up? You are due to have whatever emotions you have. It could be anything. allergies dehydration, body trying to clear medications, anything.Follow up with your doctors office and hang in there . DO WHAT YOU CAN DO.

I am now 8 days out from surgery and today is the first time I’ve felt even remotely normal. The recovery has been ROUGH! The nausea was so bad I couldn’t get in my liquids or even take the zofran pill without throwing up. The stomach spasms are something else. Ended up back at the hospital for IV fluids and a CT scan. At least I know there’s nothing wrong with the surgery. I got a prescription for scopolamine Patches which has helped tremendously, and along with crystal lite I should be able to hit my goal for liquids today. I’m also able to watch food commercials on tv that don’t make me turn queasy. The stomach spasms are still there, but are no longer overwhelming. I tried to sleep as much as I could to make this period pass more quickly. I feel as if my progress on Day 8 is equal to what so many others have progressed to on Day 2 or 3. I was definitely full of regrets the first couple of days. Now I think I can see a path forward with being able to follow the recommended diet.

please with your patch make sure you take it off with a glove or thick paper towel and thoroughly wash your hands. I find standing up and ice for spasms. find as many natural ways to get in fluids. cucumbers, melon and Fluid barring. process them down chill enjoy. I have been loving the watermelon. I ninja it and get it cold sooooooo goood

  10. So congrats to everyone having surgery this week.

day 8 . I did a little too much over the weekend trying to walk my dog in 100 degree index.Dah

Fluids intake needs to improve. wrap to hold my belly firming which helps with better movement and support.

Follow up with doctor down 18 in 6 days. The first two days home I peed every 15 minutes for l peed for most of the entire day. Seriously.

my belly itches very well from the bond adhesive. cold pack helps also for the pain if any

I have not used any pain meds just ice pack.

Stomach spasms are something.. Just stand up. I try to drink Water every time I get up to go anywhere in my condo. before you know it your intake is done for the day

I love my premiere CLEAR Protein Shakes after surgery they seem to be too sweet. I made some herbal tea mixed it and now have a delicious beverage with purpose. My doctor said what a great idea !

Bowel movements . Make it happen ...try not to use unnatural products for it strips your body fluids. I used watermelon. I blended to a beverage. Its a large source of Fiber and fluid..

down to rest guys take care and thank you for being here for me to share and learn

I use an abdominal wrap to hold my belly while ambulating. It feels so much better than letting your belly hang.
