what will i ever be able to eat, and when?

Thanks so much for taking the time to give your advice. I think that I worry that i am going to have to eat soft puree/liquid type stuff forever :biggrin0: I hoped that eventually i would be able to eat normal foods again and i know that i only have to eat small portions. One piece of pizza or one 1/2 sandwich would be great! i'm not after miracles as i know that this is forever, and i suppose i just wanted someone to say that i would be able to eat normal foods eventually, so again, thank you.
  5. Hi I am 3 weeks post op and am struggling with the thought that i will ever be able to eat normally ever again! I still only manage a few spoonfuls every meal, and can manage 2 meals, 1 fromage frais and 2 glasses milk along with 2 glasses juice. Some times i can't even manage that. Everyone else around me eats normally, and i am starting to think that i will never be able to eat normal food again. I am so scared of being sick, have only done it once and am trying my best to not do it again! I would really appreciate it if someone who has been post op for 6 months + could shed some light on what they eat normally in the day now. Thanks so much:thumbup1:

    What's on your mind?

Tiffykins, How i feel for you at this time. Just remember how much you will appreciate each other when he does get home, plenty of time for getting to know each other again. You are both so brave to work through the seperation times, but im such a softie that i would not be able to be without my hubby every day...i managed a week while he went on a golf hols, that was enough for me! Just imagine his surprise at how much you would have changed since he last saw you!
  7. HI everyone. I am doing ok, though i vomitted for the first time yesterday, and seriously thought that i would have a panic attack at the same time as i had never experienced pain like that before. My dietician rang today and confirmed i was exactly where she thought i should be 2 weeks post surgery. Everyone seems to be concerned that I am going back to work in 2 weeks. How long did any of you have off work before you went back?
  8. Thanks everyone for your kind words. I am doing ok really, just never even thought about protein shakes. I must admit there is no way i manage to get 60g protein down me in one day, not a chance. Don't know about you but i struggle just with the fluid at the moment, if i am lucky i might get around 1.5 pints down me in a day. I just keep telling myself that at least it is getting better each day!! I have no second thoughts about the op, i am so glad i did it and the surgeon was fantastic, could not have asked for better care. I had in done lapriscopically and my wounds are nearly fully healed already, nice little scars. Thanks again everyone
  9. the above message was for joanie, still workin this out!
  10. Oh how i feel for you at this time! You must mail on here and you will get the support you need. Just because it didn't work for your family does not mean it won't work for you. Remember you are in control of what you put in your mouth, howmuch and when you go through the stages. Dont be talked into anything else by anyone one else. I am here for you, any time you need a chat.xx

    Oh my belly help!

Hi I agree with MacMadame. Your first stage is food that has been blended in a blended. Remember what it is like to wean a baby. The first stages is like a thick liquid, then you can move onto small lumps by around week 5ish. I too have a pain in my lower left side a lot...maybe it is the excess gases from the op still there? Doc told me not to worry and things would die down after a bit. Remember you have just been through a huge ordeal! Hope this helps
  12. Thanks for all the lovely comments. The jabs I am having is Clexane, which is to prevent DVT. Apparently, it used to be for 2 weeks only, but my surgeon had recently had a fatality at 2 weeks post op as soon as the clexane was stopped and he said he was not taking any chances at all so it was now for 6 weeks. I absolutely hate that part of it! I know that I am still only 2 weeks post op now, and am still sore. Sleeping is so uncomfy as each part of my back hurts however i lay. In addition to this i have the awful pain under my left bust which is like a constant ache, so will be glad when that goes! Despite everything, i know this will be so worth it in the end. I am amazed that I do not feel hungry, this must be because the part of the stomach that sends hunger signals to the brain is removed, leaving you not feeling hungry at all. I have to keep reminding myself to actually try to eat something. Tiredness is a bit of a killer and I hope this will get better with time. Am supposed to be back at work in 2 weeks, so better get a move on with recovery. Thanks again everyone
  13. Hi Brad I have just joined in the hope of having some support and just looking at your replies shows that you have that already here. What a great site for me to stumble across! I am 10 days post op, and am lucky that mentally, I am not having any issues yet, not to say that I won't have though in the future. You have done a very brave thing to spend more time with your kids, enjoy them each and every single day.
  14. Hi Just joined the forum as I am 10 days post op, and have no firends that have a clue what it is I am going through! I feel like I'm whining all the time if I say i'm uncomfortable and sore. My Hubby is a gem, as are my kids and my parents, but whats missing in my life is girl friends! I am starting this journey over in the United Kingdom, and am hoping to make some lifelong friends on here. So far, the journey has been a sore one, but definately worth it! No complications, very smooth op and home in 3 days. Starting to pick up on the eating and drinking day by day and am amazed that I have lost 18lbs already. I have a total of 140lbs to lose for my self set goal. I am very needle phobic, and I was not pleased that I have to have an injection every day for 6 weeks post op. Maybe that would have changed my mind for having the op?! Maybe its a good job I didn't know about it before then :lol0:. Well, thats enough for now, hoping some of you read this and take pity on me (haha) and reply. Chat soon xxxxx
