    Incision YUCK

I hope everything has cleared up by now. I agree with the others, if it's yellow and pus, it's most likely an infection. I'd clean it with 1/2 strength peroxide. NEVER use full strength peroxide on any wound, it's really bad for the skin to heal. Good luck to you. I hope everything is better.
  2. Hey, I see you're one of Dr. Moran's patients. I got banded on 7/30. What had your experience been like? I got for my first post-op office appointment this Wednesday. Did you get a fill on your first appointment?

    Pureed Food Stage

Pureed is baby food consistency. I just got banded 7/30 and am on clears for a while. My dietitian gave me the following list for my pureed diet: canned meats (tuna, chicken, turkey); eggs (not fried); fat-free refried beans; applesause; cream of wheat or grits; mashed potatoes; easily mashed fruits; or baby food. I hope this helps. Good luck to you!
  4. Surgery went really well. It was at 8am and I was out of the hosptial by 1030am going home. I slept a lot that day. I've only had to take the pain meds 2 times. I havent' been too sore, it feels like I've done 1000 sit ups. The liquid diet is ok. This is going to be such a huge change.

    How are you doing?

    3 days post op & no #2?

Thanks for this post. I was banded on 7/30 and not had a BM yet either. Just some gas and peeing a lot. I figure it will happen when it happens.

    Help! Hair is falling out.

I'm only 2 days post op but I do know from my nursing classes that you need Protein for your hair. I'd suggest taking the shakes or increasing the amount you're eating. Hair is primarily made of protein. I do agree with one of the other posts, it could possibly be from stress. This is a huge lifestyle change. Good luck!
  7. Thanks for your post even if it was months and months ago. I am being banded Thursday morning by Dr. Moran. I have to be at the hospital at 6am. I'm nervous and excited. I hope all has gone well for you.

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet

Dr. Moran put me on a 7 days pre-op liquid diet because I didn't lose any weight between office visits, I actually gained 8lbs. I need to take better responsibilitiy for my weight. Part of me had my mind set that I needed to eat as much as I could because I'd never have it again. Another problem I'm having is exercise. I needed to get more motivated to exercise. I have a gym membership I'm paying for every month and the card looks so great on my keychain. :-) My surgury is scheduled for 7/30 @ 0800 and I have to be at the hospital by 0600. Almost like the airport. I'm not taking anything the the clothes I'm wearing. I want to have the surgery, recover, and go home and probably sleep the rest of the day. More to come later. I'm studying for a final exam tomorow. Wish me luck. C.H.

  10. OMG the memory of my Barium Swallow. I agree it was really difficult not to burp after taking the fizzy crystal stuff. And the barium chaulk wasn't too bad. I handled it well until I had to lay down and roll around so they could take the films, that's when I started feeling an upset stomach. PS. white poo, gross! LOL
  11. I am one of his patients. I thought you looks familiar when I was looking at your pics. :-)

  12. Wow, that pics are amazing. What a transformation. My surg is scheduled for 30th of this month. Soooo nervous!

  13. Good luck to you. Everything is going to go great. This is the beginning of a new journey to a better you.

    July Jewels 2009

How do I get the July 09 Freedom Fighters for my signature? I guess I did get the ball rolling for everything. Honestly, I thought it was taking way too long. Once I made up my mind I did everthing I could. I'm still amazed my insurance is covering everything.

    Any July Bandsters out there?

July 30th here!!! Good luck everyone.
  16. Now often are you taking Advil, how much, and with what? Too much is REALLY bad for your stomach, especially if you take it on an empty stomach. Aspirin is the worst for an ulcer. Don't touch the stuff. Always read the bottle and take the correct dosage. I'm only in nursing school but I get at my friends for just "taking a few" to get rid of the pain. I hope your tests come back negative. Hopefully it's just a little inflammation and the Protonix will knock it out. It's good stuff. Keep your stress levels down because that's gonna make the stomach worse. Keep us posted.

    1 Step Closer in Raleigh

I got my call from Dr. Moran's office yesterday to finally schedule my surgery. The one drawback is that I'm in school right now and won't finish until the end of July so I asked if I could wait until then. I'd love to go in and have it sooner but I don't want to chance being ill and then having to miss school. I'd love to keep in touch with anyone local that has gone through with the lapband. Nobody else really knows what it's like to lose weight and decide to do this. It's hard to explain to people sometimes. Good job on your weight loss. Slow is alright. Go to the gym or walk. You can do it. Chad
  19. I have BCBSNC and my lap band is covered 100% once I pay the deductible of $250. Are there different types of BCBS?

What do you wish you knew before the surgery?

You lost a shoe size??!! That's a first I've heard. Very interesting. I've not been banded yet. I have my first appointment with the doc Thursday and feel I've done so much research online and through here I am info overload.

    Lapband causes male "enhancement"

I foresee a lot of the Men's room going into the porno industry. LOL I have heard the 30lbs loss, but only get 1/4". Either way would be impressive. :-P

    need new shirts

LOL, I can't belive you got rid of those. I want to keep at least one pair of pants and a shirt after I get banded. Just to remind myself where I don't want to return. I look forward to being able to shop in a regular store and having less X's in the size.
  23. Hey Doug! I hope your banding went well. I'm in Wendell, just outside of Raleigh. I'm hoping to have my banding in the next few months. Keep us up to date on how you're doing.

    I lost 200 in 18 months

Wow, I'm very impressed. I haven't been banded yet. So far all I've done is gone to an information session. The doctor's office called me the other day to let me know my insurance would cover the entire surgery. woo hoo. Now I just have to meet one-on-one with the doc and his PA and then see the nutrition/psych, etc before setting a banding date. You all have inspired me. I am 33 and am starting out at roughly 400lbs. :-( I've been a big boy all my life and can't even comprehend what it's going to be like to weigh less. To be able to go to a restaurant and not have to request a table because I can't fit in a booth. To be able to squeeze by people and not have then bounce of my stomach. To go to a department store and not pray they have a big and tall section. Good luck to you all and to all of your hard work.
  25. Hey everybody from Raleigh, NC! Well, so far I have just attended an information session with a sergeon here in Raleigh, Dr. Moran. Most of the information they went over I had already learned online but it was great to be in a room with other overweight people. I have been overweight all of my life and never been successful losing weight. After a lot of research, talking to people who have gone through the procedure, and some soul searching I decided to start the process. Right now I'm just waiting to hear back from the doctors office about insurance coverage and where to go from here. Good luck to everyone here. I look forward to reading your posts and learning more about this life altering experience. RaleighLap
