  1. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Baptista. Dr. B is in practice with Dr. Cwyes that I love as well. I met with both of them and then decided to have my surgery done by Dr. B. just because I thought our personalities were more similar. Dr. B. is very caring and gentle. If your really looking for someone to kick you in your ass then go with Dr. Cwyes but I knew for me and this journey that I would respond better to the more gentle approach. Don't get me wrong Dr. B. will lay down the law when he needs to but even when I screw up I don't worry about an appointment with him. I fell off the band wagon over the holiday's with family in town and he said ok...let's get your head back in the game. I have lost 28lbs in 5 months and although that doesn't seem like much I started this process needing to loose 65-70. So I'm almost half way there! Good luck in your process!
  2. Hey Sweetie,

Not sure if you sign on much anymore but I'm always thinking of you and wondering how your pregnancy is going. I'm sending you good thoughts!!!

  3. It's ON!!! I need something to get me off my butt. This cold weather in florida has been throwing me off my game. This morning I told my husband I want to loose 25 lbs by my birthday...St. Patty's day. So I've signed up for a 5k a month until then to keep me focused. But my first mini goal is into wonderland....SEE YOU THERE!

  4. Hi Colleen,

I wanted to check and see how you were doing? Did you make your 20 lbs by Christmas? I've set a new goal for myself...20 lbs by March.

  5. I just looked at your pics today. I'm always commenting about your avatar. I always read your answers because you give such great advice. I was banded in August and have lost 30 lbs. but have been stuck for about the last month at the same weight. It's killing me I'm at 203 and every time I step on the scale I'm ready to throw it out the window. I've stepped up the work outs trying to get under 200 and it's just not happening. I read some of your post on running. I have bad knees (several knee surguries on both) and I'm trying to go slowly. I feel like an idiot on the treadmill at the gym jogging so slowly. I'm sure everyone is like get up and run but I keep telling myself what i read on one of your post...start slow and move up slowly and you avoided injury. Any other advice? I've been jogging/walking 2 miles M, W, F and doing 20 min on the eliptical bike and the machines on T, Th, S.

  6. I had my surgery on 8/18/09 and am down 30lbs. I've been stuck at this 30 lbs for 5 weeks now. Any suggestions on how to get it moving again?
  7. You look amazing! I love the picture of you doing the handstand on the beach. On days when I'm not lovin the band I always know that I can read your blog and laugh. We are both so close to going under 200...and secretly I'm competing against you. You always average more weight loss than me. I'm lucky if I get a lb a week. And I am determined not to let you beat me to 199. I'm sitting at 205. I got the wii for christmas and I'm starting it tonight in addition to my regular cardio in an effort to kick it up. Good luck to you!

    Conflicted and regrettful

What kind of foods would make your band slip or make the pouch expand? My doctor said that I could eat anything I had eaten previously.
  9. I read it this morning on your blog and loved it. And re-read it here. Somedays I have to keep reminding myself that I have a great life...and although the weight is coming off very slowly it's coming off and I shouldn't get so wrapped up in it!
  10. It was not on my list of approved mushie foods. I didn't eat sushi until after i was on regular food. I do eat sushi I just have to take it really slow. I prefer to get rolls that don't have rice with them. my fav sushi place does a roll made with cucumber.
  11. This happens to me after each fill. My doctor said it was from swelling. Some people swell after each fill and the length of time it takes to reduce the swelling varies. I'm usually this way for about 10 days after each fill.

    10 from GOAL!!!

You look great. What did you do to get there? Diet, exercise???
  13. Yes when I've been sick I am extremely tight. I usually do a day or two of liquids and then mushies.
  14. You are a true inspiration. I think before you do anything drastic like cutting your hair off...go to a great wig shop and try on all the styles you like and see what works best for you. This way you can try different styles and colors and it's loads of fun. Take a camera in case you want a second opinion.
  15. Hi Colleen,

Wow your first fill. I just had my 2nd one last week. Both were only small fills. The first one I didn't have any trouble eating and could still eat really anything just smaller amounts but this one is tighter. I've been trying to kick it into gear for my sons 3rd birthday party. I'm down 21lbs since surgery 8/18. I started really exercising about 3 weeks ago and have spend the last week under 20 carbs a day...Then today i weight myself and gained 2.5 lbs. I seem to do better when I don't watch my carbs. I'm hoping to also loose 20 by xmas. Let's keep in touch on the progress.

    Have a great Halloween!

  16. I have really good restriction and don't think right now I would want to be any tighter. Of course, give it another week and I'll change that story. I I have completely stuck to the low carbs and been charting my food intake. Less than 20 carbs per day this week. Jog/Walk 2 miles on M, W and F and walk 2 miles on Tues and Thurs. I've been doing this routine for 3 weeks now. So I figured this morning I would get on the scale and see how this hard work is paying off. I was up 2.5 lbs. I just sat on the floor and cried. Since having my surgery I've not really done the low carb thing just watched what I ate. I'm hoping that it's muscle but it is making today tough. I'm doing a 5k next saturday so I'm going to stay focused.

I hope your pregnancy gets better. I struggled so much with my second one but I can say once she arrived it was such a blessing. She's so special and she was worth all the depressing thought and morning sickness! Have a good halloween!

  17. I remember those does in the pregnancy. The first trimester is the worse...all the flood of hormones and it takes a while for your body to adjust. I didn't show much with my first but with #2 I did immediately.

  18. Hi there...I was just thinking about you. How's the pregnancy progressing? I just went in for another fill - lost 8lbs during the last month so I got a little fill. The swelling from the fill really sucked so the first 4 days I was really sick. But I'm doing much better today. I'm trying desperately to loose as much as possible before Nov 8. It's my son's 3rd birthday party. Hope everything is going really well for you!!!

What a Difference a Year Makes

Great pictures of the zoo. I live in Jacksonville and we take our children there every other weekend. I've noticed a huge difference in the two months i've been banded.

    I'm lost...

I'm right there with you. I had my surgery on August 10, 2009 and I've lost 22 lbs so far. My typical day is a slimfast for breakfast, tuna or chicken salad for lunch and fish (sometimes with a veggie) for dinner. I run 20 min M, W & F and walk 2 miles Tu & Thurs. My doctor said not to sweat it. Loosing slowly is still loosing. My trainer said it takes about 6 constant weeks of exercise for your body to really kick in. Once that happens the weight should come off quicker. I'm with you crying...sometimes when I'm running the tears start coming as I'm thinking really...all this and only 20 lbs. But slow and steady will still get us to goal just not as quick as we would like. Keep up the faith.
  21. Carlos welcome!!! It's really nice to see how supportive you are! I have been banded about 3 months and I think my advice to you would be...be very gentle with him as he goes through this journey. I was very skinny when I met my husband and then got sick and because of the medicine gained 70 lbs in 8 weeks. Then I had two children and couldn't loose that 70 lbs. My husband has never understood this because he has never had an issue with weight. Since being banded I have lost 22 lbs but I don't see it. Other people are asking have i lost weight but even my husband can't see the difference. I'm assuming it's because we're around each other all the time. What I appreciate most about my husband is he doesn't play the food police with me. The band isn't a solution just part of the journey. And there are days (and sometimes multiple days in a row) where I fall off the wagon and say screw it I'm eating whatever I want. The first time this happened and my husband said "are you supposed to be eating that" I got so pissed and ran into the kitchen and started eating more. This is a life journey and he's going to have good days and bad. Just be there and encourage him through both. The best advice I can give him I got from this site. This journey should be taken 1 meal at a time. When I started out it was easy to say oh well i blew it at lunch so I'll just eat whatever and start over tomorrow. But the better approach which I take now is...ok I didn't do great at this meal so I'll work on the next one. Hope things go well for the two of you!

    Not loosing weight.

i had my surgery one day before you and i've lost 19 lbs. So don't feel alone. My doctor said it's not how quickly you loose it's that your loosing. I started jogging/walking two weeks ago and the trainer said it would be about 6 weeks before i really started seeing the results from the exercise.
  23. Hi...what have you been doing in order to loose the weight. You and I were banded 2 days apart but I've only lost 17 lbs.

    Want to start running...need encouragement

You guys have really inspired me. I just started the c25k this week. I've been walking 2 miles every day but decided on M, W and Fri I'd do the c25k program and then walk 2 miles on my off days. Monday was my first attempt at running...I can't even remember running as a kid. I made it through the 1st day but was sore on my walk today. I also ordered some new Brooks Adrenaline which will be here for my Friday run. I'm walking a 5k on November 7th and hope to run my first one Dec 5th.
  25. Hi,

I saw your blog today and that you went to Dr. Baptista. I had my surgery by him on 8/12. I know i'm not loosing as quickly as he would like but i've lost 19 lbs so far and I'm happy with that number. I'd love to hear your experience and if you follow the low carb diet.
