  1. My surgery was covered through my insurance so I'm not sure what the charges are when you are self pay. I had my surgery on 8/12 and I've lost 18 lbs so far (averaging 2lbs a week). It's not as much as a lot of people on the site but considering I only have 70lbs to loose I'm happy with the progress. If you have any questions you can send me a private message. You can also search the site for Jacksonville Florida and there are a couple of threads where people talk about their docs.
  2. I haven't heard of them. But I'm in Jacksonville and was banded by Dr. Baptista (Dr. Cwyes partner) and I love this group! They are very supportive.
  3. I'm doing good. I've gone almost a whole week without weighing myself. Although this hasn't been the greatest week. It was my husband's birthday so it was me taking him to dinner and then dinner with friends so i ate things that weren't carb friendly. So I'm sure I didn't loose anything. How are you? Hope everything is going good for you? How's the morning sickness? I hope it's getting better for you.

  4. Yes Monday will be 2 months. I can't believe how time has flown since having my surgery. I'm not loosing as quickly as some people so I have to keep telling myself it will come. I've lost 16 pounds pre and post. But I know I need to get off my butt and start exercising more. Keep up the great work and I know you'll reach your goal in 4 days!

    confused about mushies

For my mushie stage my nutritionist suggested refried beans with some cheese.
  6. Love Love Love your blog! You've done a great job with your weightloss and you give me such great inspiration!

  7. WOW!!! how exciting for you! At least you waited a bit in between the 1st and 2nd one. Mine was 4 months old when I got pregnant with #2. I know what you mean about the morning sickness. With both I was sick all day throughout the entire pregnancy. My little one's are great well other than a touch of stomach bug. I've been loosing ok since my 1st fill. I tried to stay off the scale but just couldn't. I've lost 6 lbs since the fill 10 days ago. I know it's not as much as other people but I've been struggling with the exercise. With both kids sick with the stomach virus for the last 2 weeks I've been up alot changing them during the night. But I'm hoping they will settle down so I can get back at it. Congrats again on the baby. I'm assuming it's happy news!

  8. Wow I'm really sorry about the car accident. I hope you are recovering. I'm with you on not having the baby in the car. It was the first thing I thought of when I heard. Things with the job have gotten much better they have extended my contract yesterday so I'm hoping to get back to basics. I had my first fill and I am still able to eat almost anything just much smaller portions. It's been a week today and I promised the doc I wouldn't weigh myself until I go back so I have no idea how I'm doing. How are you doing? Did your weight loss stall with the accident?

    Being a vegetarian isn't easy

I like vegetarian refried beans with cheese, salsa and sometimes sour cream. The refried beans are great for protein.
  10. I was banded 6 weeks ago and I have the SILS. My doctor did the incision inside my belly button. You literally cannot see the incision unless i tug at my belly button. My husband was so amazed because it's barely noticeable. I also had the 5 incisions last year when I had my gallbladder out. Although, the scars are very small. I don't like the 5 incisions.
  11. i read on someone's page that you had been in a car accident...are you ok? Hope everything is going well with you.

  12. wow you look great. I was banded by Dr. Baptista 6 weeks ago and am not really loosing weight yet. What is your secret to success? Do you follow the 30 carbs everyday?

  13. I was banded almost 6 weeks ago and for the last two weeks I've felt like there was a cotton ball stuck in my throat. It's not difficult to swallow it's really just annoying. Has anyone else had this or know what it is?
  14. Thank you for your encouraging words. I am trying to stay focused and I'm just taking it one meal at a time. I can't even do one day at a time but I figure small steps will get me there. I have gotten back down to what I was at one week post op so I'm happy at least about that. I don't have a fill until the 24th but I think I'm going to call them and see if I can move it up any. Don't know if they will but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. I'm getting better with the job situation I've had 3 interviews with different companies and I'm sure something will turn around. I know you had some advice about the first fill appointment but I couldn't remember what it was. Can you share that again?

  15. Hey there! Well I wish I had good news for you but I don't. I had initally lost 10lbs but have gained 6 of those back. It's been a very stressful time since my surgery. I was laid off in December finally found a job in May and now just found out that I'm being laid off from this job October 1. So I've been stressed and depressed which is a bad combination when it comes to dieting. And then of course, we had unexpected company for the last 10 days and it meant going out to eat alot so I haven't made the best choices. I feel really good physically just a little sore every once in a while when I do to much with the kids but I'm so bummed out about not loosing weight that it makes me want to eat more. Everyone is leaving on Tuesday so I'm really hoping I can get back to basics before I have to go in on the 24th to see Dr B. Of course, I'm really nervous about that appointment and hearing his disappointment. Hope you are doing well and I can't wait to see more pics.

    Happy Loser

what are you doing to loose weight. are you on a special diet?
  17. I was banded 2 weeks ago by Dr. Baptista at Memorial hospital in Jacksonville. Sorry I don't have any experience with Dr. Chappano.
  18. Wow that's awesome! I had surgery two weeks ago and I'm just starting to feel like my old self again. That's so exciting about hitting onderland. I have 22 more lbs to go to get there. Are you sticking to the low carb diet? I'm on regular foods now and found it hard this weekend to stick to low carb when i was on the run with the kids. Luckily I could barely eat anything so I didn't do too bad.

  19. Hi,

I am in Jacksonville Fl, I was banded last week. Do you do any kind of special diet to loose the weight or are you just eating less?

  20. Thanks! I'm doing pretty good. Starting to get my energy back. I went back to work the day after my surgery so I was going to bed at 8 every night. Last night was the first night I could stay up past 8 so I think that's a great sign. I start mushies today which is so exciting I'm sure that will really boost my energy back. I'm healing nicely. When I went to the doctor I had lost 10 lbs since my pre-op visit. So not as much as I wanted but I can't complain with 10 lbs in 2 weeks. But of course with starting mushies I'm sure I'll gain some back. But it also means I'm one step closer to being able to exercise. When did you start exercising? How was your last fill? Did you get one/ need one? I finally went out and saw your pictures. You can tell you've lost some weight! I'm sure it's harder for people who live with you to notice because they see you everyday.

  21. You and I are in almost the exact same situation. I was banded on Aug 18th weight 226 on the day of surgery and have lost 10 lbs since. I've just started mushies today and am worried that I'll gain some of the 10 back. My doctor is happy with the progress but when I read other people's stories and their weight loss i get discouraged.

  22. hey,

everything went well. He said I was a super trooper. Of course, I didn't feel that way because I got sick from the anesthesia and spent until 6 p.m. vomiting until we finally got it under control. i'm doing ok. I'm actually back at work today. I work from home on a computer so it's not like it's a tough job. I could take time off but since I'm a contractor I don't get paid for time off so I figured sitting at my computer was just as easy as sitting around the house. I'm planning on ending my day at 4 and going to take a nap before I have to start the 6p.m. feeding, bath and bed time routines for the kids. Hopefully I can make it until 4. I'm not in a lot of pain just mostly sore. He put my port right above my belly button so the worst thing is standing up straight. I haven't gotten that concept down yet. I'm sure it will get better with each day. I'm waiting on your pictures did you update them yet?

  23. Thanks! I struggled yesterday with the liquid only diet. I had to finally eat something last night (only 5 bites of tuna) I called the doctor's office and told them. I was so sick from not eating that I started vomiting last night so I figured 5 bites of something was better than vomiting all night. Today I'm doing better. I've stuck completely to the liquid only diet. So hopefully that will be ok.

  24. Yeah he said he will most likely do the single incision. The good news is the little incision in the upper middle he can re-use my incision from my gall bladder surgery. Yeah I'm totally counting down the days. Work has been crazy and I can't believe it's already Thursday. This morning has been a little rough for me the sitter made my daughter pancakes. I was struggling to stick with my no carbs. But it will all be worth it. I'm trying not to weigh myself because i can get caught up in the scale but i was down 1.5 lbs. I know it's not much compared to other people that loose lots of weight in the preop but at least i didn't go up.

  25. 44 lbs is awesome! I hope to be at 1/2 that. You have to update some photos so we can see your progress. I had my pre-op yesterday at the hospital and today with Dr. B. I was very happy when he said that I could pick up my kids and didn't have to wait any long period to heal. My kids start pre-school the week after my surgery and i would need to pick them up and put them in their car seats.
