  1. Happy 35th Birthday marc29!

  2. Happy 34th Birthday marc29!

  3. So about a week after my surgery I was put on soft foods. They went down just fine, in fact now I'm 2 weeks out with little restriction at all. The problem is, for the first week after I started eating soft foods I was getting pretty bad heartburn. It actually took me a few days to figure out what it was because I had never even had heartburn in my life before this. For the last couple of days it has gone away and I'm hoping I'm in the clear. I can imagine after eating nothing but protien shakes for 2 weeks that solid foods can be a bit of a shock to the system. I guess my question is, is this normal or could there have been something else wrong like band slippage?
  4. First off, anyone that compares smoking pot to smoking crack is probably on crack. And as far as the legality of it, I have yet to hear a decent argument for it even being illegal. It is less dangerous than alcohol and has a 0% OD rate. As Dr. King said, "We have a moral obligation to disobey unjust laws". Now with that out of the way... :-) My biggest problem with smoking pre-op was that I would get some serious munchies. In a way I thought banding might fix that, not that weed munchies is the reason I got banded or anything. I just thought it would be a nice side effect of the band. I tried it a couple of weeks after surgery and I got some SERIOUS munchies. I didn't pig out or anything but I did eat more than I probably should have and I'm lucky I didn't cause slippage. I would be careful with it, just make sure there are no munchies around the first time you try. Everyone is affected differently, and I found out that even though I couldn't eat a lot that didn't keep me from wanting to. Good luck :-)

    Post Band Pain

I had surgery on a Thursday. Friday and Saturday were pretty bad and I really needed the painkillers. By Sunday I was fine, then on Monday I had a problem due to some fluid in my abdomen because of the surgery. But that is a one-off situation, I imagine without that I would have been good to go back to work by Monday (even though I took the next week off to recover just in case).
  6. I was banded on 4/30 and today is the first day I feel completely normal. Even though I'm supposed to be on liquids for 2 weeks I tried mushies yesterday and today and had zero problems. It was very nice eating about 1/3 bowl of clam chowder and then stopping because I was full :-) But everyone is different, gas-x chewables and strips seemed to work great for me the first week after surgery.

    band slip??

Maybe you've just lost enough weight to where you need another fill. Honestly, I wouldn't take chances. Call your surgeon and let them check just in case it is a slip.
  9. I think a "w00t" is deserved here, congrats!!!
  10. The day OF surgery I was chipper because I was jacked up on pain killers all day :-) The day after was a different story, and the next day was the worst for me. I could barely move and I needed the pain meds to get through the day at all. Day 4 things started getting better. Right now I'm 9 days out and not only do I feel like I didn't even have surgery, I'm able to eat mushies without any sort of hint of PB or any other problem. Truth be told I feel like I could eat anything but I'm going to wait for my surgeon to give the go ahead. Some people take longer to heal than others, but feeling chipper the day after without being completely high on pain killers seems pretty far fetched to me.
  11. Kind of the answers I was expecting. Thanks everyone for replying!
  12. Ok so obviously if you drink it must be in moderation, and the tolerance for it goes way down after surgery. I also know about empty calories and that alcohol should be avoided if possible for this and many other health related reasons. I know all of this. My question is specifically, after lap-band surgery, are there any harms that come from drinking alcohol that you wouldn't have had before hand (besides lower tolerance)? Such as "LB does such and such and therefore the liver blah blah". Any good medical reasons are what I'm looking for. I don't plan to have any yet, I'm really just curious. TIA!!!
