  1. Hey all, I have been so excited about my surgery date of May 15th with Dr. Ortiz...until this swine flu epidemic news! Has anyone heard anything specific about it? I've just been watching the news, but I have to admit, it makes me nervous to think about getting the surgery in the midst of this outbreak. What are everyone else's thoughts? :smile2:
  2. I spoke with my friend who is a Dr. in the San Diego area today and she said she thought it was fine for me to still go to TJ for my surgery. The news is making a big deal of this flu, although the regular flu kills more people each year. The new strain is definitely cause for concern, but it seems to be blown out of proportion right now. There are already 8 confirmed cases in the Dallas area (where I'm from), which is more cases than in TJ. Lastly, Dr. Ortiz said that the OCC is self-contained and no sick people go in/out of there, unlike a regular hospital. I think that's a big plus. As of today, I am not going to reschedule. I am going to bring tons of anti-bacterial hand sanitizer and face masks to wear at all times!

    Pre-op diets?

I started my pre-op diet yesterday and let me tell you...I wanted to give up SO many times I was so hungry I could have chewed my arm off! Today I have a headache. Probably withdrawals from caffeine/sugar? Anyhow, I am on the following diet plan: shake for breakfast (premier performance Protein shake - 30g protein/1g sugar/160 calories) Shake for lunch (premier performance Protein Shake - 30g protein/1g sugar/160 calories) Lean Cuisine for dinner I can also have up to 4 lbs of green veggies (that's a lot!) and sugar free popsicles. I made it through the first day and am feeling better about things today. Since I am not supposed to use creamer in my coffee, I tried adding some of my protein shake from breakfast to it. It wasn't horrible  How's it going for everyone else?
  4. I just spoke with Dr. Ortiz's office and they tried to instill a sense of confidence in still going down. Their surgery center is self-contained and they told me that there have been no cases of swine flu in the northern area of Mexico near them. I am still nervous, but at the same time, thinking that even if I did get sick, it is totally treatable. But, I do have a little 10 month old baby who would have a hard time getting over it if I brought it back to him. Sigh...
  5. Hi! I just got my flights booked and my date is May 15th with Dr. Ortiz at the OCC in TJ. I am so excited and nervous. Anyone else seeing Dr. Ortiz that weekend? Are ya'll staying at the Marriot or the Hotel Lucerna? Any advice?

Anyone heading to OCC-Mexico in May?

I am scheduled with Dr. Ortiz for May 15th! I can't believe this is actually happening! I am so excited and nervous. Does anyone have any advice regarding choosing the Marriot or the Hotel Lucerna? Anyone getting any dental work done, also? I was considering it. Maybe I'll wait until I go back for my follow-up/fill 6-8 weeks post op. I will be flying in on Thursday from Dallas. Flying home on Sunday. Sheila
