Something Else is Missing...
Malaika replied to I Can and I Will's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Caro to the forum -- happy to have you. You are very lucky to have such caring and understanding parents - that is so cool. We look forward to hearing about and following your journey. -
Have you tried Venaflaxin (Efexxor)? I have no side effects from it like I did on other anti-depressants ... it's more of a mood stabilizer than an anti-depressant - it levels out the seratonin and 2 other hormones that as you get older your body quit producing as much of.

Protein, Protein, How to get in all of my protein...
Malaika replied to debestmath's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yep, I think you'd better start a list - there's a Sally's right near the house, so no big deal on that ...:biggrin0: -
No, we're way too important to forget ... hopefully he's on vacation or something fun and all is good ...

That's awesome Chancie -- I wish I had measured from the beginning as I know I have lost several inches ... if I can locate my tape measure I think I will do that today as I am starting my workout routine tomorrow (was too sick to do it last week) and the inches may come off even quicker with my working out and it will be nice to see the difference. YOU'RE DOING AWESOME GIRL!!!!

Nana - are you driving into Mexicali yourself or is Ernesto going to pick you up in San Diego? If you're driving in, it's no big deal - they don't even question you as to why you are coming into Mexicali. If Ernesto is driving you, I don't even recall him stopping at customs into Mexico. Now, on the way out, if you are driving, customs will have to see your passport, know the reason for your visit and will do a general lookover of your car -- they didn't open car doors or anything, just looked in and asked if we had anything to declare. When we were there and Ernesto was driving, they just took our passports, called our names and returned them - it was no big deal. I drove around Mexicali by myself when Bearded was having surgery -- and I didn't feel threatened or unsafe in any way. In fact, I went shopping at Wal-Mart and everyone was very nice. You will be fine and you will be in wonderful hands with Dr. Aceves and his staff.

It's a long story and a running joke among several of us who have been on the site for awhile.

Need some support.....
Malaika replied to PurricanChick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Chick ... I did not seek any professional help prior to my surgery nor did Bearded, my fiance who also posts on this site. It is hard work to make the sleeve work for you; however if you are able to give up pot, smoking and soft drinks, then I don't think you'll any trouble. Also, it's not that you won't ever be able to eat regular food - it's just that you can't eat nearly as much as you did before the surgery -- which is a good thing for those of us who have a food addiction. Do I miss food - sometimes. Have I ever considered suicide because of the loss? NEVER. I think you'll be fine if you realize that this is a TOOL to help you lose weight and get healthy and not the FIX that everyone looks for when we're overweight. Welcome to the forums and if you have any questions please, please, please ask - someone will have an answer for you. -
That's AWESOME Mac - Congratulations Daisy -- sorry you had such a bad day ... just focus on Thursday evening and having your feet planted in Las Vegas for 4 days ... we are going to have a GREAT time ... hopefully you won't even give home a second thought while you're here.

Protein, Protein, How to get in all of my protein...
Malaika replied to debestmath's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've seen both responses on that - yes and no - I think Mac posted a link about it; however, can't recall under what thread. -
Also Joanie -- you MUST eat at least 3 meals a day - whether you are hungry or not - EAT - eat lots of protein - 70-80 gms a day and get in as much fluid as you can - at least 64 oz. a day. Try to keep your carbs below 30 gms. a day - eat lots of fish if you like it ... try protein shakes -- I bet once you start eating on a regular basis and your body doesn't think you're starving it - you'll start dropping the weight. Read other posts on this forum and do what research you need to do to find out how to eat after WLS.

DO NOT QUIT - DO NOT GIVE UP- Your body is in shock from the surgery and needs time to adjust. Get in your protein and your fluids. Walk and do easy exercises as much as you possibly can. THINK POSITIVE and don't stress about it -- stress is not good for weight loss. YOU CAN DO THIS -YOU WILL DO THIS ... don't let your family's negativity affect you in a negative way - show all of them they are WRONG! If you're giving it a 100% - then give it 110%.

Call the hotel and see if someone turned them in -- it's always a possibility - and you can stop and pick them up on your way back home ... scattered? Really? Why? (hehehe)

Well obviously I have no idea where your appendix is located then ... *shrugs* ... was just a thought .. a bad one I guess - :crying:

Realistically.. what should I expect?
Malaika replied to CherryG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ash - when I hit my standstill it was the same for me for 2 weeks ... the scale never moved even 1/10 of an pound ... I would have thought it was broken if not for the fact that Bearded was weighing on it too and the scale was going down ... it's started moving again thank goodness! My positive thought was - at least it's not going up! -
Maybe you forgot to pack them? (Thinking positive here) ... but if not, like your thought on the matter!

If you use polish that says "not for acrylic nails" and soak your fingers in there they will soften up and come off easier. Sergio is WONDERFUL -- they are all wonderful. It's hard to pick only one ... good luck tomorrow AJW - you'll do great I know.

Started with a Leak...Doing great now!
Malaika replied to moore37042's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh so glad to hear you're doing better ... I have a difficult time, too, not drinking and eating ... especially if we're out because the drink is right there in front of me; at home it's easier because I don't have my drink in the same room. -
Steve - we're waiting ... and waiting ... and waiting ...:crying:

Going to Mexico on August 9th
Malaika replied to AJW's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
AJ -- be sure to take the medication they give you after your pre-op tests before you go to bed - they will help you sleep for sure. We'll look forward to hearing from you when you're up to it. -
November is a ways away yet, so I woulnd't be surprised if others are having surgery the same time as we get closer to November. Remember - it won't be Thanksgiving in Mexico so no turkey for you
