Drainage, Leakage and Staples?
Malaika replied to barefootinablacksea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know if all doctors use the blue dye or not - Dr. Aceves does - it's truly not bad - it's apple juice with blue vegetable dye added to it - the worst part is your tongue, lips and teeth are blue - plus anything you might spill it on is stained, too. Of course, the absolutely worse thing would be if it shows up in your drainage bag; but we don't even go there! -
Christian, single mom's, I need to talk to you!
Malaika replied to Jesus68's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
He definitely IS a loving God and a forgiving God ... He puts up with so much from us; but then again, He knows all our weaknesses as He created us. Let go and let God. He will bring you through this and provide for you. -

Drainage, Leakage and Staples?
Malaika replied to barefootinablacksea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They don't send you home with a drainage sack - mine was taken out after the blue-dye leak test the day following surgery - that evening, it was removed. -
When was your surgery and why can't you eat fruit and veggies (unless you're early in your post-op)?

Reflections from a Fat Chick
Malaika replied to roseyandmusic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Doing good Rosey - actually - doing GREAT! Keep up the good work. Thanks for letting us know how you're doing!:party4: -
I have a girlfriend who has her own gym and she is on my way home - so we are accountable to one another and I stop on my way home because I know once I get home that's it! Also, I like the fact that it seems to keep my scale moving and I feel better after working out.

Drainage, Leakage and Staples?
Malaika replied to barefootinablacksea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Aceves uses the staples and then overstitches - no mention of any sealant type liquid in my post-op report. -
How do you manage the trip home?
Malaika replied to stoongal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wore my regular bra; however, none of my incisions were on the bra line, so it was fine - I also wore a loose top and stretchy pants with an elastic waistband that didn't push on any of the incisions. A dress would be great; however, not sure how comfotable it would be flying Also - if you're checking in your luggage - be sure to keep anything valuable (jewelry) and your medication with you on your carry-on. Even though we drove, I was able to get everything I needed, including my pillow, into a carryon size bag. Don't take too much -- you really won't need all that much - you'll sleep alot, even if you think you want to watch a movie - you'll miss most of it -- I drifted off trying to type on my computer. -
Did you see my post to you on Facebook? Take 800 mg. ibuprofen and 2 xtra strength tylenol all at the same time - it has the same effects as codeine without the addiction - according to my dentist. I had to deal with an absessed tooth over the thanksgiving weekend a few years ago and this combination saved my life. Now that I think about it, since our stomach is smaller, wonder if 400 mg. ibuprofen and 1 xtra strength tylenol would work? I've shared this "secret" with others at work and they've been amazed at the pain relief. I gal (fighting an absessed tooth last week) said it worked better for her than the Lortab her dentist prescribed. Hope it helps!
-
That's AWFUL Tiff - hang in there and remain strong -- I know it's working on your last nerve - and now an absessed tooth isn't helping -- but maybe John being delayed will be a blessing in disguise as it seems like you'll have to deal with a root canal - and won't be 100% yourself - maybe this way you'll be 100% healed when he does come home (trying to look at a silver lining?) HUGS to you - call if you need to talk!:party4::hug:

Post surgical emotional mess!
Malaika replied to shanda7182's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think, too, it has to do with the anesthesia and hormonal issues. -
Thinking of getting the Sleeve ... need more info
Malaika replied to Kikiphiasmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are not really cutting in to you - like a C-section - you will have 5 small incisions - it is done laprascopically. It really isn't painful at all -- I had surgery on Friday and was back to work by the following Friday - I could have gone back on Wed/Thur if not for some intestinal issues. I never had the band; however, after reading all the psots here from those who have had revisions, I thank God that I learned about the sleeve before deciding to go through with the band. With the sleeve, you don't have any foreign objects in your body and the follow-up is minimal. -
Post surgical emotional mess!
Malaika replied to shanda7182's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not uncommon Shanda, I think most if not all of us have gone through it - hang in there and let your fiance know this too shall pass. -
I was lactose intolerant before surgery and the surgery made it worse. Used to be I could eat ice cream and pay for it later that day - now, however, if I eat it, I throw it up within 10 minutes, if that - has left me with NO desire whatsoever to eat it anymore. Frozen yogurt stays down; however gives me terrible gas. Thankfully I'm still able to eat cheese -- haven't tried regular yogurt yet - may give that a try tomorrow. I don't have too much trouble with other things thankfully.
-
SF popsicles and sucking on ice cubes helps alot - also, as has been said, it doesn't have to be 64 oz. of water - water is better for you - but getting in Fluid of any kind is better than not getting in 64 oz of anything.
-
YEP we did - LOL -- give me a call and let me know what works for you on getting together on Saturday or Sunday - before you leave for surgery on Monday -- woo hoo - it's getting close !

Complications after Sleeve Surgery
Malaika replied to attitudefree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Then I'd definitely be looking for a different doctor. -
It was a contest Alex announced back in June (I think) when the forum first started. It ended end of July.
-
NOPE and I thought it was supposed to happen end of July or first part of August ... HEY ALEX -- WHAT'S UP WITH THIS???

If you can't do the pre-op diet, then you're going to have a difficult time with the post-op diet. The pre-op diet is for a short time period - and if you're doing the hi protein/low carb, there are so many food choices, you should be able to stick with it for 2 weeks. Stay focused and stay determined - keep in mind that this is for your health and is for a short period of time -- you can do ANYTHING for a short period of time. STAY FOCUSED - STAY DETERMINED!
