I, too, am an educator. Fortunately, my surgery is Aug. 4th and I'll have 3 weeks to recover before heading back to the classroom. I'm nervous for surgery and heading back, but I have faith we'll both be fine. Take it easy and don't overdo it.

Right?! I try to follow only positive people who are real and helpful. The people who are scary and hate that they had the surgery, I just stat away from them. I want this to be such a positive change in my life, that I only want positive constructive people who offer encouragement and support 😊 I love watching Dr.A he is a surgeon and he hosts a fantastic series of Q&As. Great, reliable information!

33 years old and as you can see all my weights stats. Surgery was schedule for the 3rd of August. I am a self paying patient going to Huntsville, Alabama. I wish this would have been an option sooner in my life. I rarely see anyone on here even close to my SW. Anyways, I originally was going to go to Mexico, however, even though it was about half the price I decided to stay in the states. It is very nice to meet you all and hopefully we can make connections and keep chatting. I work 3rd shift so I tend to reply and be on in the middle of the night.

So today I learned something pretty interesting that I wanted to share. All of us have a high Protein intake that we have to have post-op so I was sure the collagen that I've been adding to my Water would count toward that protein intake level. I checked with my nutritionist and she said that collagen is fantastic to take for hair, skin, and nails but it is not a complete protein to count towards my total daily protein intake. So I got to researching and there is a product here on Bariatric Pal for liquid predigested protein. So I sent the link for my nutritionist to review and she came back that since this collagen has tryptophan in it that it completes the protein and can be applied to the daily count. So in essence, if I'm struggling to get water down, I can also use this to ensure I'm getting the protein needed. Once I finished my last test, and got my results, my paperwork was sent to my insurance. Approval took about a week or so and THEN I got the call to schedule. No point in scheduling if insurance said no they said. Not that I was worried, I also had a strong belief my insurance would cover it. I am having a revision so the first surgery was scheduled for maybe 4 weeks (a month) after that. I’m an educator like your husband and also had to consider my schedule. I think once everything is in order it will go quickly for you, especially if the team you are going to has several surgeons to choose from.

My pre-op resting is not until 5 days or so before. I have to do a COVID test at that time too.

I wanted to do something like this but one of the PA’s at my doctors office told me that my BMI could drop too low and my insurance could then rescind my approval. I feel like my BMI is high enough though that I could lose 20 or so and still have a high enough BMI. I’m 5’8/280lbs/42.6 BMI. I also have hypertension. 

I also bought baby food jars and smaller utensils. Lol.

I’m nervous, but I wish it was sooner rather than later. I’m an educator and I was only able to get it scheduled 1 week before I have to go back to work! So I’ll only have 1 week off. Is anyone here worried about going back to work? Or are you guys blessed with staying home?
