    Whatcha' Eating?

HA Vegas. I thought I was being sly! Yes my dog chewed the toy. It was a cute mini build a bear dog cheerleader. She had a cheer outfit you could put on. She was left on the coffee table and attracted interest from my dog sometime during the night. Her ear was torn off, her tail was torn off, and half her cheer out fit was gone, the other half had little teeth holes. That is ok. My dog didn't know she had a vet appointment today to get caught up on shots. I made sure she attended :001_tt2:.

    Drinking cokes anyone?

I drank a small amount of a flat diet coke the other day. Ugh. My stomach was not happy about all that acid and it tasted terrible.

    strange Question

Yeah and don't they leave some of small intestine just kind of hanging out there? I seem to remember that bacteria could leak into the abdomen and cause problems because of this.

    when do others notice?

People are noticing now. I don't just mean people I know. The people I know could not believe how I looked after two weeks of not seeing me. I lost a lot in the first two weeks. I say people I don't know notice now because guys look. I had some dude walk past me as I was coming out of Starbucks and he was like "Hey baby you looking good, what is your name?" I turned around because I wanted to see the hottie he must be talking to and it was me! :tongue2: I didn't know what to say so I just turned around and walked to my car. My husband I had a good laugh about it.

    Whatcha' Eating?

10/16 Breakfast: 18 grams Protein....... Lunch: 4 oz lowfat cottage cheese and snack pack unsweetened applesauce. It took me an hour eat them both kind of using the applesauce as a topping. If I eat applesauce straight my tummy is not so sure about it. Dinner: Patty from a McDonald's cheeseburger (with cheese on it) and 4 french fries. I got the happy meal so I could get the toy. I gave the fries to my step-son. I gave my dogs the bun. I played with the mini build a bear toy and then my dog chewed it up last night. Oh well.
  8. I hope everything went well. We are kind of worried not hearing from you!

    New from British Columbia

WOW Angela. You are a trooper for waiting 4 years for surgery. My hat is off to you. I almost had a fit waiting 4.5 months. Welcome. Be sure to put your surgery on the calendar and let us know how you are doing leading up.

I am not sure where to post this question...

Yep my surgery was right in middle of my period. They gave me the stretchy panty and a giant pad to wear to the O.R. Like magic the panties were gone after the surgery and I had the same pad under me like Tiffy did. After surgery in my room I got into a bad position and had a little trouble breathing. It was no big deal it was just my position was causing me to try and breath deep because I was not moving enough air. Breathing deep hurt a little first couple hours. So when I would breath deep my diaphram would react to the pain and jump up kinda causing a rush of air out of my lungs that panicked my lungs and me. Anyway a change in position with the help of some nice burly CNA guys got me fixed right up. My point that story? That pad got moved and I didn't realize it so I made a mess in the bed but the CNA's had no problem changing the sheets and getting a new pad. I was not embarrased. Probably the pain meds made me not care. So just make sure the pad stays in place if you move around. Don't worry about it at all. It is not the first period the O.R. or hospital team as seen I promise!

    Whatcha' Eating?

How is everyone doing? 10/15 Breakfast: We won't talk about it 200 cals and 18 grams Protein. Lunch: 3 oz pinto Beans mashed and 2 tbls mixed cheese Dinner: Uhhh......Chit. I forgot to eat! I didn't realize that until now. I had a piece of peperoni off my husband pizza and meant to make something for myself and just forgot. I drank a lot of Water though. Ooops.
  12. I am 52 days out right now. No real complaints but........ I have a strange pain kinda at my incision site. I only have one incision. For an idea of where my one is see this pic: http://www.ucsfhealth.org/adult/images/bariatric_surgery_images/lap_incision_call.jpg It is the middle left incision (patients left so the ride side of your screen) that is marked "10 to 12 mm" in middle of the three. Mine does not tilt down like that though. I guess if you do it only through one incision it does not tilt. Anyway, after I eat I get kind of a stabbing pain there sometimes, but not every time. I have a dull ache there about 80% of the time now. It kind of came on gradually about 2 weeks ago. The pain wanders around sometimes too, I can't say it is always at the incision site but when it does hurt, it hurts to push on the incision, regardless of where the pain feels like it is at the time. I have no shoulder pain, no fever. Nothing to suggest a leak. My incision is now closed but you can tell still healing on the inside, kind of a purple color. I have never recovered from having my abs cut so I am thinking maybe this is the pain, just healing. Anyone else have this or had your abs cut before your WLS and get pains? Yes I will email my team but I see them on Thursday for a follow up so I am not in a big hurry.
  13. Thanks Tiffy! They did tell me to apply heat and massage but not as detailed as that. Now I know. Yep Orchid. It is a scar that may turn into an adhesion later. That is why when I use my abs it feels like slight tearing and hurts. You can feel like little pebbles under the scar. This was the clue to them it was a heavy scar forming. My single site operation increased the tissue trauma in that area. Meh. I can deal with it. I was just worried because it should have been getting better. Now that I know it is not some huge problem I am not worried. It is all good.

    strange Question

It is most definitely not left in the body. If it did not have blood flow it would become necrotic and cause sepsis. If it did have blood flow it would continue to produce acid with no way to drain or it would leak into the abdominal cavity. I believe earlier (like 70's) stomach "stapling" left the stomach in and it was just stapled through the middle kind of. Yes it caused problems. VSG is not this surgery in any way. The staples can be seen on an x-ray but no problems with an MRI or metal detectors. In less than 6 months your body will surround the staples with scar tissue and the staples will not be able to be seen if someone was looking inside your abdomen. Just like Vegas said!
  15. I have a scar forming under my incision. I think this means I am developing an adhesion. I am going to begin massaging the area after some gentle heat and see how that works. I guess this is common after abdominal surgery. There is as lump under there though. I am going to watch it for Orchid's wonderful mention of a hernia. Thanks so much!!

    Whatcha' Eating?

I figured I would post early since I already admitted my Starbucks problem. The problem with me going all the time is not about money, my husband doesn't care about the money either. After all our grocery bill has dropped by about $40 a week or more. It's about the fact I should be having shakes in the morning made at home. They are lower in calories. Period. Tomorrow there will be NO Starbucks. I will make my shake and that is just all there is to it. Ok here is today: Breakfast: You guessed it. I won't bother with the details. It had 300 cals and 18 grams Protein but I didn't drink it all so.... Lunch: Hummus and 1 slice swiss. Dinner: 2 meatballs. I am not hungry today and didn't eat much because of bathroom issues making me feel sick. Don't worry we will be discussing that at follow up tomorow.
  18. Bah! I grilled my surgeon about what staples he used also. I was not having any of that nickel business. He was like "No one uses that anymore. Where do you get these questions?" I said "Online :thumbup1: " For the record I have titanium.
  19. My follow up is tomorrow. I am going to talk about this. I can't even sit up without it hurting. This can't be right. I am seeing on other boards people are doing ab workouts at 4 weeks? And I think those people had the several incision operation. I only have one incision! wtf? Will update tomorrow.
  20. I am assuming this person was talking about long term "dying" but mine is almost all removed and I am still kicking. All jokes aside...... A friend's husband had stomach cancer. 95% of his stomach was removed. He did pass away several years later but it was from the cancer metastitis (moving around the body) not from his stomach being gone. He ate fine but did have trouble with tough breads, like some do with VSG including me. She remembered when they looked at the Dr. in horror when he said they would remove most of his tumored stomach. "How will he eat and stay alive?" Dr. said "You don't need your stomach, you might need B12 suppliments later but we will do blood work to see in about 6 months." My father had a bypass in the 80's. He was fine. He died later from something unrelated but never had trouble that I remember.

    Whatcha' Eating?

I had my first fall off the wagon day yesterday. What a disaster day. Breakfast: Back and Starbucks. :001_tt2: Cream mocha with 3 scoops Protein. 300 cals :fencing: but 18 grams protein. Grazing food: I bought a pumpkin scone to give to a coworker who loves them. She was not here today though. Of course I could have given it to someone else or threw it away but no I grazed on it the whole day while drinking Water so it slid right through. There was 400 calories in that thing. I am so angry at myself. Scones work but bread does not? Whatever. I am over it and that won't happen again. Lunch: Funny. I should not have been hungry from grazing but I hate 2 oz pureed chicken and 2 oz pureed carrots. Dinner: I guess I was finally full from all the BS I ate. I had two meatballs with some spagetti sauce and little parmasean. :smilielol5: (for tomorrows post I am already going to admit I have been at Starbucks)
  22. Well I just wanted to post that first I think my stall has broken. I am losing again and not yo-yoing up and down 2 lbs like I was. Stupid stalls! My personal onederland was going to be 179. I have not seen that number in years. I didn't think 199 was a good first goal because at surgery I was 204. So here I am. Onederland for two days so I think it will stick. :cursing:

3 Days post op and super happy.

I am so glad you are happy and things went well. I think this is possible yes. I am sure a lot of it was Water weight but take it! The first several weeks I lost rapidly and made other people get on the scale to make sure it worked. When I came back to work I even got on our freight scale which is certified and it was spot on. Keep us updated!!!

    Whatcha' Eating?

I was never a fan eggs so that is why I don't eat them. I am also a creature of habbit Linda. Even before surgery I didn't need to vary my diet much. Now I could eat the same thing most days and I wouldn't care. food just is not that important to me. 10/12 Breakfast: I could lie and say no Starbucks but alas I was there. Tall white chocolate mocha with 1/4 shot decaff and non fat milk, no whip. After it cooled off I added half a pack of ujury unflavored Protein powder to it. Lunch: 2.5 oz pureed chicken and 2 oz pureed carrots. I am trying to cut out this two lunch business. I don't want to be a snacker. I think that will lead to grazing for me later. I am being proactive. Dinner: My husband wanted In and Out. We both got off work 2 hours late. So I had an In and Out cheeseburger, animal style, and protein style (no bun, wrapped in lettace. I ate the patty and tomatoes. Didn't eat the pickles or most of the lettace. I ate 3 of my husbands french fries. Not as good as I remember, my tastes are changing.
  25. Ok public listen up: I did not have the ?bypass?. Not every person who has bariatric surgery has a ?bypass? or band. K? I don?t know why it irritates me so much when people assume I have had a bypass when they find out I had surgery. Even after I say ?No I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy, or VSG for short.? they still say bypass later. Nothing is bypassed in my body. Why is this so hard to understand? I understand that the average Joe is not educated like us on different weight loss surgeries but after a person says no I did NOT have a bypass why would you still use that term? I was watching a rerun of Big Medicine the other night and the patient was having a VSG. When interviewing her after her procedure it said ?Bypass Patient? under her name. I almost flipped a lid. I was yelling at the T.V. My husband thinks I was funny to watch but he gets mad too. No my wife had a VSG. It is a different kind of surgery. Someone had the gall to say ?Oh she should have waited for that new balloon thing.? Excuse me? It was not the latest gadget I was picking out. Sometimes I feel like saying: ?Saying VSG is a bypass is like saying someone who had a lumpectomy had a radical mastectomy. NOT the same surgery.? What got me into this rant is a close member of my family (not DH) said ?bypass?. They got an earful. The whole world knows I had surgery so I suspect there will be many more bypass comments. I will educate them one at a time and I reserve the right to rant more later. :confused1:
