How exciting! I start my pre-op tomorrow! I agree about wanting to jump off the table and be right back to what you were doing before. I had a lap chole. when I was 19. I was out grocery shopping the same night and want to be doing that this time too. I had a baby in 2019 and rushed them to discharge me, so I could get my other kid to her volleyball practice. I'm not one for sitting around and being taken care of. All of your other fears are valid. I'm a chronic weigher (multiple times a day). I'm thinking of avoiding my home scale, but I have access to scales everywhere. Even eating tuna at lunch today I wondered how I was ever going to get used to eating without drinking or having to wait 30 minutes. I've have a slow gut like even with my gallbladder gone, it's 3-5 days between BM's. I've done some other diets that were very low in calories but had decent fiber and still needed a laxative weekly to have a BM. I work in the medical field as well, and I 100% have said that I'll go to a competing practice/surgery center before I was treated at my own just because I don't want any of them to see A) my charted weight and B ) my derriere. All in all, I think it would be strange not to be worried about some of the nuances this is going to change. Best of luck with your surgery tomorrow!
  2. So I stand by my claim that I'm 5'11"; however, I have a large frame and broad shoulders/back. I'm still in pre-op, but several years ago, I lost a lot of weight and made it down to about 215. I was satisfied with my size at that time. I was wearing 12/14 in pants.

    Blah...my first stall...

I’d go ahead and get a measuring tape if I were you. Yes clothes fit different but with there being no standard sizing, I don’t trust that. Pictures are great too but sometimes I struggle to see the difference there as well.

Do you have a support group within your surgeons office or a good support system at home? I know several people in here meet with therapist that specialize in food addiction. It may be beneficial to meet with one. My family are starting a diet at the same time that my preop start so it should be easier as they won’t be eating the garbage either.

Congrats on getting your date. Yours is a day before mine. Some of those shake recipes look good. I can never get the powders smooth enough, so I prefer to the ready to drink shakes.

So I'm still in pre-op, but I swear my scale remembers my weight occasionally and doesn't move. I can weigh with clothes on or off and it'll still just show the last weight. I will have my youngest who is 3 get on the scale to "reset" it with her 29lbs self.

    First fast food since surgery

If you happen to go there for breakfast the egg white grill without the muffin is pretty good. W/o cheese it's 100 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 1 carb, and 18 grams of protein. With the cheese, It's 150 calories, 6grams of fat, 1 carb, and 21 grams of protein.

    Getting money back from surgery

I do insurance billing and the fees we charge when we bill to insurance are pretty arbitrary. In my specialty, Medicare used to pay us based on groups. So group 1 codes would be allowed $400, but group 2 would pay $800. Instead of having a different charge amount for every procedure, we took the highest paying group and round it up to the next $100. At the time that the fees were entered (2004), we charged around $1000. Then work comp changed their manual and allowed at $1593 for one procedure, so all of our charges became $1600. The fees haven't changed since. If we add a new procedure to our services, we take the current MCR fee schedule and times it by 2.4 to get our charge rate. We do this because 90% of our commercial health insurance plans are based on a percentage of Medicare allowed. Our highest is 200% of MCR.

    PreOp Diet Struggles

I have a three week liquid diet that starts 6/1. It is called a liquid diet, but I am able to have no starchy veggies as well. I've talked to friends that have used the same surgeon and had the same diet and they all admit to having lean chicken once or twice a week during pre-op. Unless you are out eating fast, fried foods for cheat meals, you should be fine.

So gut bacteria creates 80-90% of the serotonin in our bodies. You can promote serotonin production through foods that contain tryptophan (Salmon, Spinach, Eggs, Poultry). It's hypothesized that taking probiotics may also help. Of course, exercise is also known to help the brain produce more of the serotonin it is responsible for. If you already struggle with depression and anxiety, it might be helpful to go ahead and talk to the healthcare providers that help you manage those conditions.

I've essentially been eating as I will after I'm back to normal foods. I'm averaging 750 calories a day, 26 carbs, 30 grams of fat, and 76 grams of protein. For example, yesterday I ate 717 calories. Of that, I had 85 grams of protein, 16 (net) carbs, and 32 grams of fat. 7am: Protein Shake 1130am: Protein Shake 2pm: Quest Protein Chips 7pm: 2 soft tacos: Low Carb Tortilla, 4oz ground turkey, 1 tablespoon of shredded cheese, 1 tablespoon of chopped onion, 1 tablespoon of salsa, and shredded lettuce

Good. Down 17.5 lbs in 17 days. I have another 19 days before pre-op starts and then 3 weeks of pre-op.

That’s awesome. I set a lofty goal of trying to lose 50 lbs before surgery, so I need the extra time. Plus I had a hardcore sugar addiction that needed to be broke.

LOL... For what it's worth, that made me wonder where the saying came from (other than my grandpa), and it is ill advised to look it up.

I'm in pre-op still. I don't officially start pre-op until 6/1, but have essentially been eating similar to the post-op meal plan for the last two weeks. I'm down about 17lbs. I'd love to lose another 20-30 before surgery, but it's hot as snot here and makes working out miserable. (Florida) How are you doing?
