  1. I don't expect EVERYONE to change their lives. I don't think it's too much to expect my spouse who supports my decision to have surgery to accept when I say "No, I don't want to go out." He argued with me after I said no to the point that I relented and went. I don't resent how he eats; his body his choice...I do want my choices respected and don't want to be put in the situations where every part of our lives revolve around food either. As far as my snarky comments, it is just who I am. I understand that I'm not everyone's cup of tea and that's okay. We've been married for 16 years and we communicate just fine snark and all.
  2. My mom started putting me on diets when I was 9/10 years old. I could tell you how to calculate percentage of calories were fat and never to exceed I believe 10% though it may have been 20%. (Stop the Insanity! Susan Powter) at that age. I was 5'5 and around 120lbs at 10 and my pediatrician told my mom I was off the charts for weight at my age. They may have mentioned height as well, but my mom only heard the messaging behind my weight. Two years later, I started my cycle and PCOS hit me like a freight train. My weight ballooned 100lbs in a year, but everyone stopped talking about it or helping me. The guy I dated in high school and college told me that if he could take my brain and put it in my little sister's body, he would have the perfect woman. That still hurts a bit to this day even though I've been married for nearly two decades.
  3. We've been married for 16 years; my dry humor and sarcastic comments still rub him the wrong way. I'm not sure either of us will change at this point. 😉 I'm at peace with not doing all of the dining out that he enjoys, but I need him to be okay with either going with our girls or just not going. He does 0% of the cooking in our house and he thinks he's giving me the night off of cooking if we go out. Right now I'm just hyper vigilant about everything.
  4. So I actually went to a doctor’s visit with him and discussed it while we waited. He was a bit more receptive, but still argued that that is how everyone celebrates holidays. Hopefully, we can change some of our family traditions.

    Lab orders without doctor

LabCorp will let you order tests on their website without paying a third party for the order. If it’s something they allow you to self order it maybe easier that way.

    Lack of patience

I was ready to do this back in January and at that time the surgeon was scheduling into April. When I shared I was going down, my mom decided she wanted the procedure too. By the time she finished all of her diagnostic testing, we had been pushed back until June. It'll come; just have to play the hurry up and wait game.
  8. In the past on diets, I always lost well when I was eating within an hour of waking up and then every 3 hours after. I never ate more than about 100-120 calories for all but one of those times which would be a bigger serving of protein and vegetables and was around 300 calories. Roughly 800-900 calories. I lost a lot (120 pounds) eating like that; however, I regained once I went back to eating normally. I'm still pre-op, but my surgeon has given me the following criteria for once I return to normal foods: Calories: 700-900 Net Carbs: 30 or Less Protein: 70-90 grams Water/Fluid Intake: 64-80 oz. **Daily Goals will remain the same the first 12-18 months or until you reach your goal, then you will adjust it accordingly.
  9. I'm flying from Florida to Texas, but I did think about driving it, but knew I wouldn't feel like driving myself home after. You are allowed to bring someone with you that will just need to cover their meals while they are there. My husband is staying back with our kids so that wasn't an option for me. I would check SW as they fly from CVG to SAT. I'm flying in an extra day early and even that my ticket price was more that $100 difference in one day.
  10. I submitted my interest form online www.endobariatric.com/ and got a response within 24 hours. I then filled out my health form. After review, Dr. Alvarez approved me for surgery without further testing the following day. I received an email from Brandi with the dates that were available. I would have had my procedure last month, but I told my mom that I was doing it and she decided she wanted to as well. Due to her medical history, she needed some further testing that took sometime to get done with her PCP and a cardiologist. I know they are currently booking in July. So not a terrible wait.
  11. I'm using Dr. Alvarez with Endobariatric. I paid $7799 for my procedure. That price is all inclusive and includes: Transportation from and to San Antonio, TX to Piedras Negras, MX. 2 nights in their hotel (night before procedure and second night after procedure) Procedure and overnight hospital stay Hotel stay in San Antonio on day of return They have other services that you can choose to pay for like Spa Treatments.

    Gas pain....omg....

My mom and I are having the procedure done on the same day, and I was telling her the only thing I worry about is the gas pains. I had my gallbladder removed years ago and sure my stomach was sore, but my shoulder(s) were far worse.

I personally don't like the powders and use the ready to drink shakes. I prefer Atkins Milk Chocolate Delight to just about anything else.

Medical charges are mostly nonsense. I'm a healthcare administrator and our charges are based on several factors, but are typically 2.5 - 3x the Medicare allowable; however, if I have a contract for higher than that (only ever worker's compensation), we will essentially round up the charge to the next whole hundred. So a procedure that we do everyday has a charge amount of $1600.00, but MCR reimburses us $299.37. By our standard the charge should be about $800; however, Florida Work Comp carriers reimburse $1593 for the procedure.
  18. I'm also from Florida and I'm being sleeved at the Endobariatric facility that the previous post mentioned on June 22. Dr. Alvarez is an amazing surgeon, and I would suggest checking out his Social Media pages as well as website. He's currently on vacation, but when he does procedures he shares on his Instagram Story pieces of each procedure. He does a maximum of five procedures a day 99% of the time. My cost for the procedure is $7799. Normal cash price is $7999, financed or credit card is $8499. If you have a friend join you, then you both get an additional $200 off which is why mine is $7799.

How long are you missing work?

I know that it's going to suck. I'm more worried about dropping off my 3 y/o to daycare and having to climb that flight of stairs. I'm considering asking the director if I can't bring her in another entrance that is ground level that they don't typically utilize for pick-up/drop-off for the first week back. 19 year old me went through a laparoscopic gallbladder removal and was grocery shopping the same night and returned to a more physically demanding job than I have now within two-three days. When I had my first baby, I returned to work in a couple of weeks, so I think I'm either stupid or hard-headed.

How long are you missing work?

I’m having surgery on a Wednesday and plan to return the following Monday. I can work from home if necessary, but I intend to be back in the office. i will say that this is based on what my surgeon has said for my specific type of job, but also my experience with a previous abdominal surgery. I just have to remind myself that when I had my previous surgery I was 19 and now I’m double that.

Have they given you a list of what you can have that isn’t eggs? Eggs are pretty versatile though and there are lots of ways to cook them, so hopefully you won’t get too bored.

My husband has a CPAP and hasn’t worn it in about a year because it was a nuisance to keep clean and the on and off ten times a night when he gets up to use the restroom. I will say that it was very beneficial for the time he wore it. For both of us! He was waking up more rested as was I as he was no longer snoring!
