  1. Down 9 lbs from my initial post. Lost the 8 I gained plus a bonus pound Now it's time to focus on losing those last pounds to get to my original goal I don't care if this takes me another six months as long as I get this done.
  2. Hi Everyone VSG done in November 2012--followed by a total hip replacement that Spring. My chronic hip pain is due to congenital hip dysplasia (second surgery for the other hip yet to be scheduled). I am only 49! Ugh. Initially lost about 60 lbs after my WLS, but have since gained 8# since this past Fall and loooooong, cold, snowy winter here in Boston. I put myself back on track for the past week after dragging out the scale (did not get on this thing all winter long out of fear and presumed weight gain) I've reinsituted a Protein drink or two a day, along with more fluids, more sleep, and omitting all simple carbs. I mean, who was I kidding right? You can"t eat slider foods, overindulge in chocolate and wine and NOT expect to gain weight! I guess I just need to know that others have been in this spot and have climbed out of this self induced pity pot so I won't feel so alone in this. The good news, is that in the past week, I've lost 4 of the 8 gained. (I know it's Water loss, etc but still pretty happy I am seeing the scale go in the other direction! Thanks for reading this and I am glad to be back on this forum and getting real with myself. If you too, have been through this, I would love to hear your struggle and what tips or strategies worked well for you.
  3. I would say go ahead and do the hip replacement. Even if I need it replaced a second time for revision, it probably won't be until I am close to 70 (which, IMO is better than a revision in my 80's) The recovery was not that bad. I took ten weeks off but probably only needed 7 or 8 total Pain was completely gone post op--like a miracle of sorts Why be in pain? I am planning my second one within a year. I'll be 50 in January
  4. Update, another pound gone...three more to get back where I was last Fall.... These last #20-25lbs are pretty difficult and don't want to leave my body!

    Drinking alcohol

I had a few sips of wine here at there at one month post op. I am now four months and I have a glass of red at dinner, perhaps 2 glasses on a weekend evening. No problems. I've had the rare cosmo as well.

Shape wear - yes or no?

I love the Slim Me by Me moi line of shapewear. Soft, good support and super comfy. They have footless shapewear leggings which I can't live without. Awesome find. Much better than Spanx or anything else I have tried.
  7. I really don't understand why these threads continually turn into fights and personal attacks. I think it is fine to state your opinion and the reason you feel that way, but I am finding this site is turning into a school yard of bullying and name calling. Things get taken out of context, the barbs go flying and we are off on another 100+ post thread that has little to do with the original subject matter.
  8. Sleeved on 11/28/12. Lost 40lbs so far. I feel like I am a slow loser in comparison, but I am happy with my results so far. Two pretty long stalls (lasted 3-4 weeks each)
  9. If you are not in my immediate circle of close coworkers or friends/family--you won't be told. There is no reason to. Most people dont ask. I've only lost 40 lbs, in 3.5 months, so it's been a gradual and fairly slow loss. Just the same as not asking a woman with a belly if shes pregnant, don't ask me if I had WLS. If you know, it's because 'I thought you had a right to know', not the other way around.

    Heart racing

Are you hydrated enough? When I have not had enough fluids, I can feel it. I feel exhausted and heart races. Drink up.
  11. Can I ask a question(s) to those who have gone to Mexico? What was done in preparation for your surgery (prior to arriving). For MGH--I had to have a slew of blood work, go to a WLS orientation, see the nutritionist 2x, attend four nutrition groups, see the psychologist x 2, have a barium swallow, and see the surgeon x 2
  12. I would't be so quick to paint me as fearful of the unknown. I think anyone would find the description of this particular clinic quite alarming. regardless of their naivete.
  13. Very very scary. I had all I could do to have it done here in Boston. I don't think I could gather up the courage to travel to Mexico and do it there.
  14. I am three months out (today) and for some reason, there is still some discoloration/hyperpigmentation over one of my VSG scars. Not a bruise, persay, but a circle of darker skin around the scar. Has anyone experienced this? It's not painful, tender, just discolored.

    Post Sleeve

Mostly head shots--haven't gotten used to anything below the chest yet! LOL
  17. I put the scale away, ate until I was full and increased my calories. I was stuck for a bit as well, and I think my body was conserving everything I was eating. After two weeks, I had dropped four lbs.
  18. I was truly obsessing on my daily weigh ins. I thought enough is enough. A watched pot never boils and a watched scale never moves down. After two weeks, finally got on and dropped four pounds. I don't know if this is a passing occurrence, but for today, I am pretty happy.

  20. My brother gave me a boatload of Nutrisystem packaged foods and snacks. Size wise, they are perfect, but nutritionally not so sure. Decent protein but also fairly carb heavy. Have any of you ever used these as meals, and if yes, how did it affect your weight loss? I am a pretty darn good home chef, so this does go against my grain, but for work, on the run, seems okay. Thoughts?
  21. I feel desperate at this point. Stuck between 214-215 for what seems like weeks. Eating mostly protein, probably eating between 20-30 gms of Carbs (less most days) Trying to get all my fluids in (not reaching 60, but closer to 48) I am thinking perhaps of drinking protein drinks for 2 of my meals (breakfast and dinner) for a couple of weeks to see if that helps things along Has anyone tried this or a version of this to get the scale moving again?
  22. He was not even on the fence about it. I told him during my preop that I was living on the things, and he just wanted me off of them 2 weeks prior due to bleeding (all salicylates--ASA, etc). I recall him telling me that if I had bypass--no way, but the sleeve was fine. I am on a PPI (omeprazole), so I have some additional protection. I am an RN, so very hesistant to start back on them if harmful. So far so good. Aleve is naproxyn, so it lasts a heck of a lot longer than ibuprofen. I was in so much pain, I couldnt even sit down on the toilet or get into my car without almost crying. Walking became unbearable and stairs, nearly impossible. Now I am walking (with a bit of a limp), but almost pain free all day.
  23. I have Tramadol for night time, but it makes me feel tired and loopy. I really need the antiinflammatory properties of Aleve. I take only one per day, and my doc said it was safe for me to use and had no issue with it. He said, 'we give you Toradol (another NSAID) post operatively to decrease inflammation in your sleeve for a few days, so this is safe for you to use"
  24. I have not been exercising as I would like to be--just walking and walking my dog. I have hip dysplasia in both hips, now with severe arthritis in my left hip, so I walk with a limp and by the end of the day, I am in agony. It's bone on bone, scheduled for total hip replacement in May. My surgeon allowed me to go back on Aleve, so that has helped a lot. Being without NSAIDs for the first month was horrible. My BF and I are going to go out and get an exercise bike for both of us to use--non impact and will be helpful post hip surgery too. Oh, and will get some weights to start using.
