    Considering instead of placation

I was going to do the plication at first as well.. but after a ton of research decided on the sleeve.. the plication hasn't been around long enough and there are too many complications with it. I don't want to have surgery that restricts my food intake and be hungry all the time.. that seems to be the case with plication. Anyways.. I also went to Dr. Kelly and had the sleeve. My hospital stay was two days and two days in hotel.. NICE place! I had nausea for the first 12 hours on and off, but my friend who came with me did not. Her recovery was better than mine. We are all different.. it will be what it will be. By day two you are feeling way better than you think will be possible. I think the leak worry is for the first month.. that is what I was told by two surgeons, with the most likelihood of having one being in the first two weeks. My cost was 5560.00 plus flight. My scars are new, but they look really, really good! I am surprised. Post op, while in Mexico, Dr. Kelly visited both days and Dr. Romero visited once. They answer all your questions and are really great. Post op at home is a bit different. I have had several questions while home and I have to email Trish and ask her to ask Dr. Kelly for me. Sometimes she gets back to me, other times I have to email her again. It is my opinion that when you arrive home you should see your own doctor and use him/her for post-op care. I couldn't have this surgery done in Canada as I didn't qualify and it costs waaaaaaay too much and the wait is ridiculous, so I have to deal with lack of aftercare from my surgeon. That's just part of it. Hope this helps P.S... the scars are really looking good... I am no longer worried about them long term

    backing out

I have a 20 month old little girl. I didn't have her until I was almost 40 years old, so I understand your feelings completely. I still wonder if I was crazy to go and do it. The truth is, at 40, the chances of me changing my lifestyle completely in order to lose 60 pounds and keep it off were zilch. No amount of Biggest Loser was going to inspire me to finally take the weight off and be a changed woman. Even those people slide back into themselves.. that's a fact. So I did it. I went to Dr. Kelly as well, by the way. It's done.. I am now going to lose weight and not be a slave to the scale and be on a diet for the rest of my life. The freedom of that was worth it to me. I hope you find some peace about it and are supported in whatever decision you make. Also, I cried when I went into surgery.. a LOT. It is scary. That's a fact. Hugs to you...

5 months and HOPELESS! Please help!

I think you just have to be level headed about it all. What I mean is, you have to know that it would be physically impossible to gain any amount of pounds of fat just by eating breakfast. It is physically impossible. Therefor it is not fat weight. And that's what we all want to get rid of, fat. Maybe if you look at it that way you won't be so freaked out. It's not fat. Also, when we chronically weigh ourselves we set ourselves up for constant disappointment. We have sleeves... we are going to lose weight whether we like it or not..lol The fact is, it could be Water, it could be that you need to go..lol It's not normal for all of us to lose 88 lbs in 5 months either, but we don't question that.. ya know? just try to put things into perspective.
  5. Hello.. I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and sometimes I get a burning feeling in my abdomen, just above my belly button. It just feels like a mild burning inside. Has anyone else had this? It sort of comes and goes.I don't have a fever and there isn't any severe pain, it's just annoying. Could symptoms of a leak be mild? I am worrying so much and I can't get in touch with my doctor, just his patient coordinator.. and that's not helpful. If anyone has any answers or has experienced this please help me out.. thanks so much Also, every couple of days I have pain in my back.. sort of just below my left shoulder blade. What is that about?
  6. Hello.. I am 9 days post op. About 3 days ago I started to have some pain on my left side and really notice it if I take a deep breath. It's almost like a runners stitch. If you had this as well can you let me know. I emailed my surgeon and am waiting for reply, but I thought I would put it out here because if others had this it would at least put my mind at ease until I speak with him. There is also a little pain in my back.. left side.. just below my shoulder blade. It isn't nagging, just noticeable. I haven't had a fever or chills and it hasn't gotten worse, but it hasn't gone away either. Thanks to anyone who can help.
  7. Thanks for responding everyone ) I spoke to my surgeon's patient coordinator.. she passed the information along to him.. he said it was likely just gas. Last night the pain in my back went away and it was almost like I felt the gas move thru me. When I take a deep breath I still have a little pain, but it is much better. You are all very helpful Julia

Thinking of Cancelling my Surgery.. HELP!!!

Yes, my bmi was 33 and I think that's why I didn't require a post op. That's right about the liver

Thinking of Cancelling my Surgery.. HELP!!!

I didn't follow the pre-op to a T either. And to be honest with you, one of the surgeons I was considering going to told me I didn't need to do any pre-op. So.. I think you should be ok. I guess the best way to find out though is to call. Good luck

    I'm BACK!!!! YIPPEE!

I'm getting that pain on the right side too, Shell..especially when I take a deep breath. I'll call ya...lol R
  11. Hi.. I just got back from surgery with Dr. Ramos Kelly. I worried a lot too, but I am back at home and doing well. I have an 18 month old daughter so I understand your fears if you die. I also was pretty normal until I had my child, then gained a lot of weight and was unable to get it off. We are very similar in those respects You just have to trust your gut feelings. Don't confuse extreme fear or desperation to be thin with your gut feeling. Hope this helps
  12. I just got back from having surgery with Dr. Ramos Kelly. If you have any worries or questions I would be happy to help Good luck and know you are going to be just fine!!

    Any other Canadians out there?

I'm canadian.. live in Ontario. I had my sleeve done in Mexico last week, but not with Almanza. I realize what I am about to say is second-hand, but it is from 2 other surgeons mouths and from having a friend who went with Almanza in February who has had nothing but problems. They all say... Don't go there. You have other options. Go to a hospital setting. Don't end up with complications and problems. I realize you are waiting to have this done at home, but if you do consider Mexico please do your research and be very diligent and speak to many, many people. Be smart! People who boast about how great Almanza is, or ANY surgeon for that matter could work for that surgeon and be getting paid to get you there. If I told you all the things I learned while away you would be stunned! The people who work for the surgeons, the surgeons themselves and the companies that promote wls all know about this forum and are free to join up and write whatever they want to. Just be smart

    BIG secret... good or bad?

    BIG secret... good or bad?

I have so much to say about this and keep trying to make a response but it is just far too long. Whether to tell or not is a very important subject for some of us. I am one of them. Here is the short version of a very long string of thoughts... When I am fat I feel judged. I hate that feeling. People want to be sooooo helpful.. "Just eat less.. exercise, cut out carbs, just walk every day, don't eat after 7pm...do this do that... GAWD!! I know so much about weight loss and how to achieve it that I could write a book! Don't we all? If there was a way to KEEP it off we wouldn't be here. And that's the problem.. keeping it off LONG TERM. This is what I want so I turned to the sleeve. So, here I am... newly sleeved. Now I am faced with the same problem as you..and MANY of us. Do I tell people? I don't like being judged because I am fat... so why would I want to tell people I had the sleeve to lose weight? I would be right back to being judged, just for something else. And the thing is, if people know you have had the sleeve they will likely gossip. Is there a person alive who doesn't think that this is a juicy piece of gossip? Because it is.. it just is. People talk... I don't want to be the talk of the office. I want to be seen as a person, not a fat person, and not a fat person who got the sleeve because she couldn't do it the old fashion way.(by the way, if the old fashion way worked then the diet industry wouldn't be making billions of dollars off of us) I just want to feel free of all that. I know a woman at work who had the bypass and when people mention her they always mention the bypass as well. She is not just Wendy, she is Wendy who had the bypass. I personally think that is crappy. I want to be who I am..not the surgery I had to get there. xo

    Had Surgery on Tuesday 8-9-11

I had a lot of nausea as well... I only threw up once and it was blood. Imagine that...horrible. I would just try and try and try to vomit but nothing happened. I peed myself a few times though..lol Whatever.. at that point I could have cared less.. I just wanted to feel better.. and the truth is, you are a million times better the next day )
  17. Hello.. I was wondering if anyone who went to mexico to have surgery could tell me what they packed, or should have packed, for the short stay. Do I need to bring crystal light or something of that nature? What about vitamins after surgery... can I take a capsule or does it need to be liquid? Thanks Julia
  18. OK.. so I am going for surgery with a friend in less than two weeks.. she would like to speak to someone directly on the phone that has had sleeve surgery with Dr. Kelly . If you can message me privately I will give her your number and she can call you... Her computer isn't working so I am helping her out with this. I am settled with my decision but she would love to actually speak to a real person.. can't say I blame her Thanks so much in advance.
  19. This question has likely been asked a lot however I am new to this and feel I should ask it myself in search of a specific answer... Dr. Aceves or Dr. Kelly? My specific questions are... 1. Does Dr. Kelly work out of a clinic or an actual hospital? It says you stay 2 days in hospital and 1 in hotel.. is that correct? 2. Does Dr. Kelly do the surgery himself of could it be one of his team and not him? 3. How many leak tests does Dr. Kelly do before you leave for home? 4. How long does it take to get from the border to the Hospital as I am nervous of Mexico. I live in a small city in Canada and you can pretty much live with your house and car door unlocked with NO fear at all..lol 5. If you used Dr. Kelly for a sleeve OVER a year ago I would like to hear from you as well to see how things are a year out ... newbies can respond too though 6. Why is Aceves more? Is it simply due to the fact that you spend and extra day in hospital and that is the extra expense? Ok.. that's enough..lol I am hoping to go August 6, 2011. I truly appreciate all the help Julia
  20. My friend and I are going for surgery with Dr. Kelly on August 6th. My question is.. do we have to stay at the Lucerna hotel for two days after the two day hospital stay or can we just stay one night at the hotel? Is two better and do most people stay the two in hotel? Thanks... just need to know for flight return times. Also.. is the hotel far from the hospital if we have problems? That's all.. thanks! Julia

Is this something you bring up in any conversation..?

I am being sleeved on August 6th. I have thought long and hard about this as well and my thoughts are this...I feel judged for being overweight and I want to end the judgement. If I tell people I have had the sleeve I feel like I am back in a position of being judged, a place I very much dislike. I am back to being judged for not being able to do it with diet and exercise and a beautiful change in lifestyle, but instead taking 'the easy way out' It is your business what you do with your body. You don't owe anyone an explanation or excuse. Having said that, carrying on a lie seems like far too big a waste of energy. When people ask how I lost the weight I am going to say that I eat a hell of a lot less. That will be the truth. Saying I had my stomach chopped off to control my eating seems far less sexy..lol Best of luck with whatever you decide! Julia

    Kelly or Aceves?

Thanks for the information I am deciding today and this is helpful to me. Hugs!
