  1. pre-op went fine. But, the week before the surgery my stepfather passed away and we had to race down to Arkansas for the funeral. We had to cancel the primary doctors surgical clearance appt and the apt scheduler at my surgeon just about lost her mind. She was very uncaring and let me know that she did not appreciate having to reschedule a dr appt. I had a great surgeon and most of the staff has been friendly but my experience with her has me thinking about changing practices for my follow up. She has always been a little rude. I have heard her talking inappropriately about other pts. Saying that they call and ask too many questions and are non compliant with the program. My surgery went very well and I am home. I will be thinking about you tommorow. Take care of yourself today. I treated myself to a pedicure (with out polish) the day before and it was a nice treat. have gas x and plenty of jello and pudding on hand. I will say a prayer for your speedy recovery.

    April Bandsters?

I was banded april 27 and everything went well. I didn't have much gas pain until yesterday, my first day back at work. the pain in my left shoulder, collar bone and neck was almost unbearable. I work about an hour away from home so I had to drive like that. When I got home and took the pain meds, percocet, I was fine but it also knocks me right out. My doctors office said it can't be gas from the surgery because the surgery was a week ago. Did anyone else have gas this late after surgery. I am 7 days post op.

    April Bandsters?

I was banded Monday the 27th, since then i have had half a protein shake, broth and 2 puddings. The scale shows I have gained 6 pounds!! what the heck!!!!! I am still pretty sore but moving around ok. I am loving the gasx strips. This is definately the most painful day so far. I am focusing on keeping hydrated. Did anyone else put on weight right after surgery? I probably haven't had more than 400 cals a day.
  4. Hello Monkey, I read a lot of your post and I am hoping you will have an answer for me. I am on the preop liquid diet and will be banded April 27th. I cheated on Easter....Not crazy cheated, but I had some Chicken and Eggplant with a small amount of pasta...probably about 800 calories and the rest of the day just the protein shakes..How Bad is this? Should I say something to my DR. I have 13 more days of liquid diet to get ready for surgery. Did I just blow it? I hesitate to talk to my DR about it because while he is a great surgeon he has no bed side manner and is not very warm. What do you think?

    Day 5 of Pre-Op

I feel your pain...I am on day 3 of a 20 day liquid diet. The first day was ok. Yesterday, by 7pm I was actually in tears from a terrible headache. Today was hard but I was able to get thru it. I just keep thinking about it as only 1 day. I am able to get thru it 1 day at a time. When I think of it as 20 days it seems overwhelming but 1 day....I can do anything for 1 day. Keep your chin up, we are all rooting for you!!

    Diet coke :)

If you have been able to break to habit of Diet Coke, you are stronger than most of us. I am getting banded in 2 and a half weeks and am down to 1 a day. I won't even tell you how much I used to drink. My family jokes that they should alert the shareholders now that I a not going to be drinking it!! I would ask your dr. and do whatever he tells you. I have left a restaurant when I have ordered a Diet Coke and they have said.....will a diet pepsi be ok....clearly, I would benefit from some counseling......however....something about the caffeine and nutrasweet combination, along with that "secret formula' has made it one of the most addicting products you can buy over the counter. Beware and good luck. I am actually in the middle of withdrawal right now.:glare:

    April Bandsters?

Good morning all, I go to my pre-op this morning. Yikes!!! When I saw the Surgeon back in November, he wanted me to lose 20 lbs. I have only lost 5. I hope he doesn't cancel my surgery. I am scheduled for the 27th. Hopefully he will understand that I put some on during the holidays, so really I lost about 15. I don't think he is going to buy that though. Wish me luck!!! On as an aside, did anyone buy the little blender "magic Bullet". I have a traditional blender but when I went to Nutritionist appt she mentioned I might want to pick one up. Is it a more convenient option?

    What do you all do?

I am a clinical liaison for a specialty hospital. I cover a 3 state region. I screen patients in the ICU's for our specialty Vent weaning programs. On a good day I love my job, on a bad day.....well, you know.

    April Bandsters?

Thank you so much calimom! I am going to work on making my ticker right now!
  12. hello all, I go for my pre-op in a couple of days and I am trying to make sure I ask all the right questions so I am not surprised after surgery. So far this is what I have come up with 1. What size band will you be using. 2. Will you do a fill when you insert it. 3. When do you expect to do the first fill, will it be under Fluro, and what is the charge? I only met with the Dr. once before and it was brief and mostly a screening appt to see if he thought I was a candidate. If anyone has a list or other questions or even one other question, please send me a line. I am getting a little overwhelmed (in a good way, but still overwhelmed) with the details and i want to make sure I don't forget to ask anything. thank you
  13. Wow, this is really a topic that hits home. I have only told my husband and my daughter. My daughter is loving and fabulous but, she doesn't agree that this is the path I should take. She is a college student in a pre med track and I think she is just being protective and worried about any surgery. She respects my decision and will be supportive of my decision. I wish I would not have told her. I have a fabulous, loving and slim family. This is not there world. They wouldn't mean to be negative but weight issues are foreign to them and they would think this was too extreme. They also are used to me being "pleasantly Plump" and my sisters even make postive remarks about it to me. "Such a beautiful full face, Rubenesque, your lucky to be curvy, yada yada yada" They love me and i love them but this will be a big change. I tried to approach my brother in a casual way and asked him if he had heard about it. He said yes, scary huh....sad that there are ppl who would resort to that when all they have to do is get more active. I didn't go any farther in the conversation. However, he did call me the next day and ask if I was bringing it up for a reason.....I lied and said no. Since then he has called to offer to pay for a personal trainer and offered to pay for the cost of a weight loss program. Funny because I make a little more than he does. While I am touched and know this is a gesture of the heart and made in the spirit of a loving brother, I don't want this kind of pressure. So for now i am not telling a soul. I will use vacation for time off from work. If this situation presents itself, I will share my situation if it could help someone else.

    April Bandsters?

OMG, omg, omg...I am approved!!!! My Dr's office called Yesterday at 5:08 to tell me I am approved!!! My preop appt is April 7 and my surgery date is April 27. Wow...I is really going to happen. I am thankful to be able to have this tool. Weight remains the one area of my life that I have not been able to effectively control, or not control for more than a couple of months. I am happy to be a Bunny Bandster!!
  15. hello, My name is Angela. I am going for my first meeting with the lifeskill workshop people. i think it will just be me and one other person along with Jodi, the bariatric nurse. I am a little frustrated with them because they still have not sent my paperwork in for approval. all of my appts have been over a month ago. they said the person who sends everything in was off for 2 weeks.

it sounds like you are doing really well. I am trying to get used to not drinking with meals and am weaning myself off of diet coke. It is harder than I expected. Have you gone back to work?

Keep me updated and you are right, you will soon be the woman you want to be. The real you

  16. I am in Western Mass, in the Berkshires. I haven't been banded yet. I have all of my appts done and now i am waiting for approval from BCBS. My Dr.s office said it should be no problem getting approved. I am a BMI of 41 and apparently I also have GERD and sleep apnea. I didn't know i had them until after the sleep study and the EGD. I am using Dr. Lederman at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Who did you use and are you happy with them?

Congrats on getting your band. Are you already back to work or school?

  17. Being at a corporate retreat with all of our Senior management team. I was also up for a big promotion at the time. My mentor worked on the other side of the country so we had actually never met. He was the decision maker for the position and had encouraged me to "throw my hat in the ring". We were all going kayaking the next day and I was supposed to be with him. of course, I couldn't fit...and of course the other candidate for the job was there and offered to jump in. I stood on the shore alone and watched as 45 members of senior management floated away......... I can't wait for my band
  18. hello all I have already had the EGD, psych consult, sleep study, blood work etc...I have my nutrition consult today and then I will meet with my surgeon to set the date. The business office feels like they can get an approval easily. I have Blue Cross HMO, so we will see what happens. I still have to attend a life skills work shop next week and then I hope I am all set. My BMI is 41 so I have a ways to go. Is it realistic to plan to be back at work in 2 weeks? I am in sales and drive a good deal? Has anyone out there had any problems with Blue cross? So far my biggest challenge is trying not to drink with my meals. Hopefully that won't be so difficult after the banding

    close to surgery date

Thanks for the response, I am glad to hear you were able to get over the beverage hurdle. I keep hearing about presurgery diet, my dr hasn't mentioned that yet. How soon did you start on that. Wow, it looks like you have had tremendous success!!
