  1. Another thing to consider is that Splenda/sucralose can cause severe GI problems. I did not use it at all after my surgery because I learned several years ago that it caused me to have nausea and stomach cramps. Do an internet search on "sucralose toxicity" and this will give you more information. I'm with you Katt. I too did research only a couple of months after "Splenda" hit the market. After researching, I threw out the multiple box stock I had..and never touched the stuff or any product that contains sucralose, again. Ditto for aspartame! http://articles.mercola.com/sites/directory/Aspartame/default.aspx Jillianmarie, It's rough going the first few weeks out for many of us. Take it slow and be patient. From the responses I've read here, you have some very sound advise. Stay connected for support and best wishes.
  2. My surgeon told me I could drink thin protein drinks so maybe you can make extra thin soupy like pudding? I would give your surgeon a call first and ask. Best wishes to you on your WL journey.
  3. Hey there, I'm 8 months out and still struggling with the loss of food as a coping mechanism for troubles. Therapy can be a helpful tool as well as a support group. I found a local OA support group that is full of insightful people and it helps me. I'm realizing that having this surgery did not undue a lifetime of using food for comfort. I am not sure what the communication is like between you and your BF but if it is at all possible perhaps you can gain his understanding by being honest with him about what you are going through and his empathy and patience would be helpful to you while you are adjusting physically and psychologically, etc. I hope you try that before abruptly kicking him out. Feel free to PM me and vent anytime. Best wishes.
  4. I honestly don't know if there is any standard answer. I hope you don't suffer ANY digestive problems. Keep us posted.
  5. DeDe you've been in the hospital for such a long time and I'm so sorry for what you're having to endure. I pray for your healing and that your life will soon be restored. I hope the next time you post you will be home and progressing well.
  6. My heart goes out to you Sassie and so will my prayers. Stay connected because having the support of people who are sleeved can be very helpful especially when going through a tough period.
  7. With this diagnosis of "Silent Reflux" I am not supposed to eat spicy food or even citrus fruits--yeah that sounds healthy-PPI for Breakfast and Gaviscon chewables after meals that contain no live enzymes! I'm so pissed. I'm eating like a geriatric and mexican dishes like yours which appeal to me are taboo!!! I'm not happy I thought with the sleeve we could eat ANYTHING!!! THAT'S WHAT MY SURGEON TOLD ME. HE LIED DAMNIT!
  8. Where are the men like you in my world? How blessed is your wife to have you? So very blessed. Tell her that we are thinking about her and many of us are praying for her thorough and speedy recovery. Hang in there Champ.
  9. Champ one baby step at a time and her healing will come to pass...my prayer for your wife's healing will continue.
  10. Daisy, did Dr. Aceves recommend Protonix initially?
  11. Praise God. Thank you for your update. Please keep us informed.
  12. I am very sorry for your wife and the pain and worry this is causing for you both. My hopes and prayers for that leak to heal and that this process will be bearable for your wife and yourself. Now is the time to muster up faith and ask the good Lord to provide for your needs. Jesus was called the great physician, may His healing touch your wife down to every cell in her body. And through Him may peace and security be restored to your family.
  13. When I was drinking the protein zone drink (one a day...divided throughout), I think my total caloric intake daily was around 400-500. I lost most of my weight within those first few months. Let me know how it goes for you as you sort your protein sources out. I hope you do well in any case.
  14. 4 nights. I went home the evening of day 5. In hindsight I think I needed to be there that long. I had prolonged bleeding from the largest incision and was given a blood transfusion. It still bled profusely for a couple of days at home.
  15. Wow that was all I COULD drink for the first 3+ months out of surgery. It was over $3.00 per bottle and if it were not for that drink I don't know what I would have done. Every and any other form of protein drink even Bolthouse drinks nauseated me. They're no where to be found anymore in my neck of the woods so fortunately by that time I was able to incorporate other forms of protein in me through fish etc. I didn't worry about the carbs because there is NO ADDED sugars, nothing artificial either. If you look at the label (or my earliest posts) you see the ingredients are from whole fruits, etc. If it were not for those drinks I would have had been in trouble. That drink provided me with sufficient protein and the nutrients of fresh fruits. It usually took me an entire day of sipping to finish one 20oz. bottle. My weight loss was rapid during those months. I was worried about alot of stuff but not the carbohydrates from my daily Naked Protein Zone drink.
  16. First I want to say I'm sorry that you are having fever, sweats and pain. Surely you will have internal soreness but I agree with you in wanting to know why your body is feverish. I would be persistent in asking your surgeon the same question you have posted here. You will most definitely receive more responses to your post...just try to deep breath and keep hydrated and know that you will be OK. Please feel better and keep us updated.
  17. I'm glad that your growing Jane. It's also a comfort to know that someone else identifies with what I am feeling. Thanks.
  18. Thamks that's good information to know. Your husband must be a riot!
  19. I think I might try the Gaviscon instead of the Pepcid AC, in addition to the PPI Aciphex I take once a day. I was diagnosed with Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (LPR)... Anyone interested in my latest blog entry... http://verticalsleevetalk.com/blogs/lan2k/560-no-improvement-yet-i-am-concerned.html If anyone is or has gone through this sort of reflux and has some info that can help me to resolve the problem please come forth!
  20. LPR affects the larynx, pharynx, bronchi, trachea, and possibly even one's lungs. Sort of like a "Silent reflux" ...lovely... LPR occurs when the upper esophageal sphincter (UES) opens and allows reflux to enter the throat. You can read all about it here: http://ezinearticles.com/?Acid-Reflux-Part-3---Laryngopharyngeal-Reflux-(LPR)&id=157576 The ENT told me that my one a day PPI wasn't enough and to take an additional OTC like pepcid ac in addition. So I have for 3 days now and it has not made a difference. I am still with several of the symptoms as listed in the article. He told me to see him in 6 weeks. I just can't take another 6 weeks of feeling like I have a glob in my throat and all the futile attempts of throat clearing only makes my throat sore. So now what? Do I wait 6 weeks? I've had this going on since before my surgery only then I hadn't focused on it but I did find out I had an hiatal hernia (which was repaired at the time of the sleeve surgery). Is there anyone who knows about this "silent reflux" or LPR? Anyone experiencing this? I can't believe that instead of coming off the PPI medication I'm looking at increasing acid blockers by taking more stuff! Why does this have to happen? I just want to be OK! I'm calling another gastroenterologist (the one who did my upper endoscopy pre surgery). I want to get his opinion and if another upper endo will help to really see what's going on then I want him to do it. I finally got the courage to be scoped by the ENT and now I've a hunch I'm gonna have to have probes attached to my esophagus that will transmit info about pH levels via radio frequency!
  21. Can you tell me about Dr. Bello? Any links? My boobs have lost all elasticity and although not too large they lie flat as pancakes! I also am thinking about my tummy and face. I'm only in the thinking about it stage at this point a good time for information gathering and I would venture out of the country since it is so out of pocket expensive, providing I have reference to a GREAT plastic surgeon with a track record. Thanks.
  22. I agree and as per my surgeon, and the nutritionist I consulted with twice, the rule for the sleeve is "protein first, then vegetables, then fruit or anything else..." Unless your taking in unhealthy refined sugary carbohydrates you should fill up sufficiently by following that protocol and allowing yourself enough healthy carbs (sleeve permitting), to take the edge off.
  23. Welcome to this message board. I only have had the sleeve. Perhaps because you have had the lapband the restriction between the sleeve and band may feel different. Many others here who have had band to sleeve revision surgery can offer you their advise I'm sure. At 11 days out however I would be somewhat cautious of the solid food, if only to ensure that the staple line heals completely. Congrats to you and your surgeon for making a wise decision. After all is said and done I think you will see lasting results and be glad of your revision. Best wishes.
  24. Hi Angie, Just keep sipping to keep yourself hydrated...then when settled you can integrate the protein into your diet.
  25. Hi Jane, I really like Solgar products. Can you tell me what the size of the Calcium citrate w/D pill is? I sort of gag on the really large ones. Thanks.
