  1. It's so easy for people to dismiss anything on the Internet by making broad generalizations such as your husband has done. I hope he is not stubborn and will take up some of the invitations posted above. Maybe he will come around if you are able to get through to him. Best wishes with your WL journey in spite of it all.

    Salads???????

I am able to eat leafy greens, carrots, onions, radishes, tomato, spinach, green beans...with ease...not a whole lot but with ease. Shrimp, Tuna, and chicken are a bit harder since i don't tolerate mayo so well but Shrimp is the easiest then tuna, then chicken....chicken is still the toughest meat for me even with mayo as in a salad.

    needing advice...

I like Solgar Whey to Go, in Vanilla Bean--Nothing artificial in it and it tastes great in warm cream of wheat or warm oat bran cereal...with some agave nectar, pure maple syrup or stevia "in the raw" for natural and nutritious sweetness. I haven't tasted the Chocolate yet, because I haven't tried this in shake form.

Wow ...what you stated here had momentarily brought me to tears. Thanks so much love.

    Very Sick- Please Help!

This is redundant (coming from me)...again,and I'm making a generalization, but I am finding support by interacting with people involved in OA. The method with which a person has dealt with their weight or eating disorder or problem is not as relevant as working towards psychological/emotion or if you will, spiritual freedom/release from captivity towards the compulsion towards food as friend and comforter. People share their "strength, hope, and experience" and, like here, it helps...albeit in increments...but one layer at a time or "one step at a time", relief ensues and the dynamic that has been played out for years begins shift into a healthier more life enhancing existence. Like the sleeve is a tool for the physical body, OA methodology is a tool for healing mind and emotion. The nice thing about it is that you attract and are attracted to people and make friends and alliances...a step further than virtual support via the Internet (which I greatly value). I hope you will consider trying this, as I think it will assist you in turning your weight loss from the sleeve into a rewarding lifestyle change. PM me anytime if you have questions or just want to vent. I stay in the loop here as I find it compliments my involvement with OA in reconstructing the new me. What ever you do regardles of your issues, physically or mentally please do not isolate. You did what you felt you had to do, so let's turn it into a positive step instead of regret. We are here for you.
  6. Congrtulations Jenny, that was a great story. I'm glad things went so smoothly praise God! I'll bet your mom is somewhat relieved too? So, I wish you continued success in your recovery and WL journey.

    Very Sick- Please Help!

I'm relieved for you Jillian. I also agree with goodlife, you must face the feelings that will surface as you will no longer to be able to stuff your belly with excessive amounts of food. Keep in mind that testing the limits can damage your sleeve and God forbid, cause a leak. With only 30lbs to lose I think recovering from a leak would be a travesty, since your capacity to eat solid food would be postponed until the leak healed. I hope you understand that with your changed anatomy you won't ever be able to be a "volume" eater again. I too was a volume eater and at 9 months out can only eat a few ounces (2-6), at any given time. It varies from day to day for some reason some days are easier and others I just feel more restriction. I'm down to anywhere from size 8 to 10 depending on the cut and manufacturer of clothing and it has not been the answer to my feeling fulfilled and content. I still resent the fact that I will never be able to eat in the way I always ate (and I ate for many reasons other than hunger). I'm networked with (OA), Overeater's Anomous groups and it is opening up my eyes and mind giving me insight about how food affected my life. I hope you seek out the support you need to adapt well to the lifestyle change. Take it slow and easy now. Cheers, Lis
  8. Yes! and when I have it I can feel it if I take a deep breath.
  9. Daisy please let me know how the stuff works for you and the exact names of the products. I am very concerned about both issues, bone deterioration and esophageal issues. Thanks.

    Very Sick- Please Help!

Like greeneyes, I suggest calling your surgeon and speaking to whichever bariatric surgeon is available. If this doesn't subside and you can not get help from your surgeon then if possible go to the ER where he performed your surgery...this way he can be contacted and consulted with. Please be well and keep us informed.
  11. Ditto here Daisy and my last bone density test was at age 39 or maybe 40, soooooooo, like it or not. I'm going to be sure to take the calcium citrate.

    Update on maddie

So glad to know your doing better Maddie. Thanks for the update.
  13. OMG I'm just about 9 months out and get the same pain under my left breast a bit towards the center of my chest (but under the breast). I just don't know what that pain is. My dad said it might be gas I just had it a few minutes ago and it comes and goes. Please let me know what you doctor says...I had a hiatal hernia repair when I had my sleeve surgery.

    Update on maddie

Maddie may God's hand be upon you bringing you healing comfort.
  16. I'll first say thank you all for your input, which is of great value to me...(would be nice if we could have VST telephone conferencing eh?) Mary, I suspect I had this "SILENT" acid reflux condition pre surgery too...it was through the required pre-examination by a gastroenterologist who did an upper endoscopy that I found out I had a "small" hiatal hernia. I didn't realize that a hiatal hernia can cause acid reflux symptoms, until I read the page of literature the ENT handed me after scoping me...(BTW, he was much nicer in person than he was over the phone). When you have an hiatal hernia part of the upper stomach sort of slips up into the esophagus, so it makes sense that acid would then creep up into the throat. The thing is that the surgeon who did my sleeve also repaired my hernia, but the problem persists, (even with PPI med.) Ouroborous takes something called Carafate that coats the esophagus protecting it from irritation. I am waiting for my PCP to see if she will give me a prescription for it. This may assist to alleviate symptoms. Ultimately I am looking for a cure. Oh please keep me up to date with your surgery and the outcome of your pre-op examinations!!! I don't recall if you have already posted your date? It must be coming up rather soon. I in turn will post any developments (good or not) as I continue to find a fix for this LPR. Katt- I'm sort of compelled to go with "conventional medicine" at this juncture UNLESS I am willing (and able) to pay out of pocket to consult and treat with an alternative medical practitioner, (since health insurance doesn't cover holistic and/or preventive medicine). I also am cautious about things such as raw milk, unless of course I am able to know its coming from a reliable safe source...and again that level of quality is high maintenance usually at a high price...I do what I can. I think if I hadn't the sleeve I'd be more apt to try things like hydrochloric acid, and other natural remedies, (Apple Cider Vinegar, etc...) but having a 4oz tube for a stomach I don't feel so invincible. Anna- OMG a solution would be a HUGE relief...these symptoms do not only cause me to feel nagging physical distress but emotional distress as well. The thing for me that has come to light is that without the excess of food/planning/shopping/thinking/cooking/sharing/eating....and without the excess of FAT on my body, (almost to goal), I am SUPER sensitive now to many bodily sensations, (except for my libido it's totally gone, since surgery), so I've all this time (formally occupied with food obsessions), to feel and believe me I really feel every little quirk. Identifying this throat/nose/sinus thing as an acid reflux issue helps...a little, but I'm confounded thus far with the lack of know how within the realm of conventional medicine. It seems they have means, (mostly ineffective) to subdue or mask symptoms but no real knowledge of the dynamics behind the problem especially when they learn that the stomach has been anatomically altered. It's like either they don't really listen or they do but lack the knowledge of how each part of the body relays to another. I'm rambling now Anna...sorry but thanks for having a keen insight into me. I'm with you there "proactive" is key. I have been incorporating natural remedies into my regime which includes PPI medication etc. I am learning as I go and trying my best to use common sense and intuition like (listening to my body) and standing up for myself when consulting with respective doctors. I know what you mean about chewing someone out in fact I have only once had a bit of a confrontation with a doctor over an issue with medication. That was for a brief moment with the surgeon who did my sleeve. Later, in a round about way, he apologised by an admission that my research was correct and the Reglan he was pumping into me did have some really bad side effects! Thanks for the willingness to back me up!

    Tips?

I'm sorry your having discomfort as such. If it persists I would not hesitate to seek medical intervention just to be sure that there is no obstruction in any way. Otherwise I do believe that this will pass. I am finding that I have some days (consecutively) where I have much more restriction and at nearly 9 months out it feels instead as if I'm just starting to introduce solid food into my system! Instead of fighting it I take a step back and eat mushies only...it ebbs and flows with me...some days I can eat with relative ease and other days I worry even fear eating due to discomfort. A couple of days ago I spent $9.00 on a fajita-steak-salad-I took about 3 forkfuls, spit most of the steak into the napkin and packed up the plate and left it for a friend. Hang in there, take it slow, this should pass.
  19. I often seem to have a mild sore throat and have been diagnosed with "silent reflux" or (LPR) Laryngopharyngeal Reflux, it's stomach acid that rides up into the throat but not in surges like with GERD. Exercising can exasperate it and although I am NOT pleased with what the ENT has recommended and intend on consulting with a gastroenterologist for a second opinion and hopefully better prognosis, I have increased my PPI intake to 80 mgs of Protonix (40mg Am and 40 PM). I find papaya chewable digestive enzymes also help after eating anything. Maybe milk will help I don't know. The doctor suggested I buy some OTC acid blockers in addition to taking the PPI. So I bought Gaviscon chewables but they don't do much. Let us know how it goes with your throat if anything develops or subsides and what works for you.

    me w hairloss

I'm 5'7.5". Thanks. I think the hair loss was a result of such rapid weight loss. It really was coming out by the handful for a few months but I am relieved that it has completely stopped! No more hair shedding. I only hope that over the summer the hair lost will grow back so my hair will be thicker. Thanks again for the compliment...I feel like such a pin head. I can do my own beautiful hair extensions which would thicken my hair beautifully, but they are labor intensive and I'm just too lazy to do them now especially in the summer when I swim and sweat alot.
  21. Your arms look tight and fit! Kudos to you for putting in the WORK the results are fabulous. I am very proud of you. Thanks for sharing. I just wish I was as young as you are
  22. Hi all I just read this from an e-news letter I read regularly. I would appreciate if after reading it ,(at your convenience), you would consider what this doctor has to say and give me your position. Mind you, I am not about to go off my PPI medication without the expertise and care of an alternative doctor who has thorough knowledge of digestive health implications after having both a hiatal hernia-repair and VSG surgery. Thanks in advance. Here is the link- Natural Ways to Relieve Heartburn Symptoms Please keep this in mind as you read the above article: I attempted to speak with the ENT (that diagnosed my condition as Laryngopharyngeal Reflux), with regard to research in alternative, holistic medical approach, he cut me off mid sentence and abruptly asked "What is your question?" His impatience forced me to switch gears and so I asked him if, in light of the surgery I had, could he say how excessive my stomach acid production was or if it were possible that I hadn't been producing enough? His answer was this..."I don't know." And then he went silent. And after a few seconds of silence between us he asked..."Is that it?" I said, "Yes I suppose it is thank you very much."

    32 French, "tight sleeve"

The next upper endoscopy I get, (hopefully soon due to "silent" reflux issues), I'm going to ask beforehand for pictures. My bougie is a 40f and at 9 months out I've got tremendous restriction! I am about 15lbs from goal and need to exercise more. In hindsight, I would not have wanted a smaller bougie size, no way.
  24. Thanks Katt I really just hope that this will not be a life long condition. The adjustments necessary for the sleeve are hard enough. Prior to the surgery my surgeon told me eventually I would be able to eat any foods I liked, including Indian, Mexican, ThAi...spicy etc. NOw I am looking at narrowing my dietary options even more!? Oh I hope this thing fixes! Thanks for making time to respond and put up all that information.
