    Nsaids????

My surgeon told me the same thing-no more Motrin-I said "EVER? An 800 mg Motrin is the only thing that takes the edge off of the migraines I sometimes get!" Then he said, "well maybe once in a while but not on a regular basis...take tylenol for pain." I hope your info is correct and that these surgeons are using the RNY protocol instead of the sleeve when they say "no" to ibuprofen.
  2. Oh Tiff! I'm wondering what I look like from inside! My gall bladder was yanked in '76 I was so young then in 2005 I had an open "incisional" hernia repair w/mesh, (due to scar tissue from that gallbladder operation). God only knows how my VSG surgeon was able to pull it off laparoscopically with all that scar tissue inside!

    Swimming is key for me

Congratulations on your WL victory! I don't like swimming in chlorinated water but as soon as the weather warms up I intend to get out there and swim in the salty old LI Sound and often. Being that you are a surgeon it's great to have your testimony. Thanks so much for posting. Best wishes for continued success.

    Protein Bars

I'll tell you what I like. I don't know if it's the best and eat about half a bar occasionally--Zone-peanut butter/chocolate- I don't have any on hand but if I recall the protein count per bar is 16gm. The carb count is around 26, (I think) but I only eat about half when I do. I like them for the taste and they sort of melt away in my mouth. I also like them because they are not artificially sweetened.

    COLD water?

From the get go (in the hospital) I sipped on near freezing juice-apple juice over ice chips. When I got home I did the same. I also enjoyed sipping on warm broth, chicken, beef, vegetable... I only have trouble with plain water, tap, bottled, filtered no-matter if it's water I have trouble, (and I'm 7 months out!) I drink Vitamin Water and mix it 50/50 with water then stick it in the freezer so it gets slushy the way I like it.
  8. Best wishes on your upcoming surgery. You will be in my thoughts and prayers on May 4.

  9. Your welcome! And don't worry you will lose weight with the sleeve. Just take good care of yourself.

  10. I have been going to OA meetings since shortly after my surgery. I find it very helpful. I attend a fairly large group on Saturday mornings from 10-12 noon. It helps me to be around people who are dealing with how they emotionally relate to food and eating. I give it a thumbs up.

Well here i sit at 370 lbs on Christmas Day 2008!

I look forward to seeing your "after" pics!
  12. Group? I must have missed something. I personally do not affiliate myself with any such "group" or label such as "cool" or "hated". There's an argument between those of us who protest the undermining and intimidation of anyone who discloses the probable causes for a number of infections and leaks coming from a facility that you have had success with, and other's, such as yourself, who defend the facility by offensive and false accusation. In fact those of us who have been genuine have argued quite rationally, mainly stating facts. I certainly don't "hate" you nor do I recall calling you any "names" for posting your good experience. To suggest that I might prefer that you would have suffered any complications is preposterous. I simply resent arrogance and lack of humility.
  13. Thanks...best wishes in your WL journey!
  14. Congratulations and well wishes for your recovery and WL success!

  15. Sigh-- Tiff I'm glad you spoke your piece! Based upon the many posts I have read since I started participating in this and OH in August 2009, I had also been very certain of who I would want to operate on me had I gone to Mexico. I didn't ever want to make someone who chose another surgeon feel that their judgment was inferior...I would only hope and pray for them to have a safe and successful procedure. But if my daughter decided to have such a surgery I would be ever so vigilant in knowing all I could about the surgeon! It's not hard to imagine that a leak or serious infection is a dreadful thing to happen and I know you have first hand experience, therefore, because of your proactive support and your own extensive experience I value your judgment when it comes to research and selection of a WL surgeon.
  16. I't only natural for a person who successfully undergoes this surgery out of the US to want to share of their good experience. Stoongal did just that! She suffered zero complications and thrived post surgery and made it known...(she was also very supportive to those of us who had difficulty adjusting post surgery). When a complication arose and she could see FIRST HAND (and not through the rose colored glasses of her success), she was fair and honest in her reassessment of the facility. It is terrible to know that if one suffers a complication due to carelessness within a surgical facility, anywhere...that they should be apprehensive about making it known in a forum such as this. As I've previously stated, to belittle someone for speaking out about what they have witnessed, through "hearsay" accusation adds insult to injury and is despicable behavior.

    2 weeks post op

I think the emotions you are feeling are normal. Feelings may vary however it is a major surgery that has a profound effect on your life. My surgeon told me that fever and infection, inability to keep anything down are common signs of a leak. At this stage I would focus on following the protocol of keeping yourself hydrated well and doing what is possible to consume as much Protein as possible, walk much and rest too...that is the best way to avoid a leak. Little by little your mind will adjust to the changes and feelings may brighten up as you see your body slimming.
  19. I hope you have some people close by for support. Please let us know if you feel need to speak to anyone, I will be available...just PM me. Let us know how you are doing as you recover and thanks for posting. Your in my prayers.

Ditto here-your attitude is one of acceptance and optimism and I pray that you will be successful through whichever door it is you walk through on your WL journey. God speed and blessings.
