  1. "To each his own"......I have always liked the structure of WW but was always hungry. Now with my band, I am not hungry between meals. It is very easy to follow WW with the band. I give myself 20pts/week plus the extra 35 if needed. Some days I don't even get to 20 points, but that's OK. I really like the weekly weigh-in. It keeps me from jumping on the scale everyday. I could not do WW WITHOUT the help of the band. There is no difference between following points or counting calories....you can keep it high Protein, low GI if you want. Just another way to keep track of calories.

  2. Well, I am joining WW this Saturday to get off the rest of my weight. I was "banded" in July of 2006 and have lost about 30 percent of my excess weight with very little effort. Everything stalled since then because of my "very little effort". I figured I would try WW because of the fact that I don't need as much food as before WLS to feel and stay satisfied. I have this tool, I just need to use it!

Sometimes I feel as if I should have had a malabsorptive surgery so that I could not absorb as many calories. When I think like this it gets me in trouble because I begin to rebel against my band. I spoke to my husband today because I really felt like I wanted a revision to another surgery. Then he reminded my why I didn't want that in the first place. I wanted my digestive system intact. I felt better when he said that and now feel like I need to work this band. That's why I am joining WW. Weekly weigh-in for accountability, band for Portion Control, and support from the group.

Thanks for reading this...let's remember what the band can do for us if we respect it!!!

  3. After my husband and I got married, we went to Barbados for our honeymoon. I got dressed up the first night and we went to dinner. I was feeling pretty sexy, it was my honeymoon afterall. Four drunk guys were at the bar when we arrived. One of them made a "fat" comment when I walked by. I was so embarrassed and hoped my husband didn't hear it. Well it continued throughout the night. They just hated the fact that I was fat, I guess. I was feeling really uncomfortable and my husband was trying to act like it wasn't happening so that it wouldn't ruin our evening. Some guy at another table said something to them about shutting up and I got up and left. I felt disgusting the rest of the week and avoided any area that I thought they would be at.

I have never told anyone that story. That was 25 years ago and I still think about it...........

  4. That's interesting.....I wonder why it wasn't a choice for me. I like the fact that there is not malabsorption, I am scared of that. Does your stomach ever stretch out, and if so, what is the treatment for that? It must be nice to not have to deal with taking meds; I get stuck on ibuprofen tabs and then wonder if my stomach is being eaten away.....

  5. i planned on having the lapband and posted my question right here, thanks to MacM and WasaBB, they steered me towards the VSG....No regrets whatsover...i am 2 days post op and loving my sleeve! I had it in Mexico with dr Alvarez and he is fantastic....i had my leak test yesterday and was excellent results. I would advise that u get the VSG over the lapband....it's a thousand times better!!!

    I hope this helped!

How do you know that the sleeve is "a thousand times better!!!" than the band if you never had it? Just curious?

  6. I am an 8th grade teacher and had my surgery in July. By the time I went back to school I was on solids and was familiar with a routine. You may want to reconsider and have your surgery in the summer. Will you be able to take care of yourself during the day with a 20 min. lunch break? with your students needing you when you are trying to drink your Water? You know how it is from the minute you walk through the door....you don't stop until the end of the day. Just my opinion....

  7. Linda,

What you are feeling is completely normal after anesthesia. A few days after surgery it is common to feel depressed and regret. I remember crying and wanting to get the band removed immediately. My husband (a physician) explained the medical reasons for this and I accepted it and just cried for 3 or 4 days. Then it left me as fast as it came and I felt fine, even excited that I now had this tool to help me to lose weight. Hang in there and you should feel like your old self soon, after the anesthesia clears itself from your body.
