  1. I was banded June 26th at right around 235. I am just now barely at 220. I am not giving up but I am very, very perplexed. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I have had several fills I use FitDay.com religiously - eat about 1000 calories a day and have been maintaining these calories for 30 days. For the last few weeks I have been Exercising 30 - 60 minutes 4 days a week. Cardio and Circuit Training (my heart rate is up there) I am a vegetarian. I keep gaining and losing the same 3 lbs now for the last month!
  2. I am reading up on speeding up my metabolism and I have symptoms of a "fatty liver". Has anyone done a liver cleanse or any other type of cleanse? I'm curious as to if this will help, is healthy as a bandster and what personal experiences have been...
  3. Hi My Fellow Slow Losers, I recently went to an Endocronologist who asked me about 5 ?'s, looked at me and told me, "Well I don't think anything is wrong with you - you should control your portions?!, I'll run some tests but umm...you should meet with a dietician"! I had brought this doctor a food journal dating for over a month, articles I read, some conditions I was concerned about - explained my portions are already very small - but he simply didn't listen to me. I did bloodwork and am awaiting results - in the meantime my mother referred this new book to me and it was like the WORLD stopped as I read it - it made SO MUCH Sense! Book is called Ultra Metabolism and the website is www.ultrametabolism.com - it also refers people TO DOCTORS IN THEIR AREA that subscribe to the Functional Medicine approach (I'll post more about this below). Some things that can be wrong with me that is affecting my weight loss could be H. Pylori (which I have!), Fatty Liver, etc. My appointment with a specialist in this area is the end of next week - I can't wait! The Website to find doctors in your area that will treat YOU individually is: http://www.functionalmedicine.org What is Functional Medicine? Functional medicine is a science-based field of health care that is grounded in the following principles: Biochemical individuality describes the importance of individual variations in metabolic function that derive from genetic and environmental differences among individuals. Patient-centered medicine emphasizes "patient care" rather than "disease care," following Sir William Osler’s admonition that "It is more important to know what patient has the disease than to know what disease the patient has." Dynamic balance of internal and external factors. Web-like interconnections of physiological factors – an abundance of research now supports the view that the human body functions as an orchestrated network of interconnected systems, rather than individual systems functioning autonomously and without effect on each other. For example, we now know that immunological dysfunctions can promote cardiovascular disease, that dietary imbalances can cause hormonal disturbances, and that environmental exposures can precipitate neurologic syndromes such as Parkinson’s disease. Health as a positive vitality – not merely the absence of disease. Promotion of organ reserve as the means to enhance health span. Functional medicine is anchored by an examination of the core clinical imbalances that underlie various disease conditions. Those imbalances arise as environmental inputs such as diet, nutrients (including air and water), exercise, and trauma are processed by one’s body, mind, and spirit through a unique set of genetic predispositions, attitudes, and beliefs. The fundamental physiological processes include communication, both outside and inside the cell; bioenergetics, or the transformation of food into energy; replication, repair, and maintenance of structural integrity, from the cellular to the whole body level; elimination of waste; protection and defense; and transport and circulation. The core clinical imbalances that arise from malfunctions within this complex system include: Hormonal and neurotransmitter imbalances Oxidation-reduction imbalances and mitochondropathy Detoxification and biotransformational imbalances Immune imbalances Inflammatory imbalances Digestive, absorptive, and microbiological imbalances Structural imbalances from cellular membrane function to the musculoskeletal system Imbalances such as these are the precursors to the signs and symptoms by which we detect and label (diagnose) organ system disease. Improving balance – in the patient’s environmental inputs and in the body’s fundamental physiological processes – is the precursor to restoring health and it involves much more than treating the symptoms. Functional medicine is dedicated to improving the management of complex, chronic disease by intervening at multiple levels to address these core clinical imbalances and to restore each patient’s functionality and health. Functional medicine is not a unique and separate body of knowledge. It is grounded in scientific principles and information widely available in medicine today, combining research from various disciplines into highly detailed yet clinically relevant models of disease pathogenesis and effective clinical management. Functional medicine emphasizes a definable and teachable process of integrating multiple knowledge bases within a pragmatic intellectual matrix that focuses on functionality at many levels, rather than a single treatment for a single diagnosis. Functional medicine uses the patient’s story as a key tool for integrating diagnosis, signs and symptoms, and evidence of clinical imbalances into a comprehensive approach to improve both the patient’s environmental inputs and his or her physiological function. It is a clinician’s discipline, and it directly addresses the need to transform the practice of primary care.

    1 year banded, 7lb weight loss ?

Unfortunately, sometimes people have underlying health issues that the band can't fix. Thyroid issues, metabolism, adrenaline problems, the list can go on and on. I am one of the unlucky ones as well. 4 mo's and 15 lbs is all i can say - no weight loss for the last month.... Despite eating right, exercising and being at proper fill amount....

    Question about restriction

It often just feels like you have restriction because of swelling...I've had a fill take 3 weeks before I felt it "fully". You will probably need a few more fills before you have restriction.

Your welcome, let me know what you think if you read this book. I normally do not like Non-Fiction books. I read the whole book in 1 day!!!

You still have lost way more then me but I see we can commiserate together... I do dance video's too. I tend to really like the cardio kickboxing ones. I also like the ones that have cardio mixed in with super sets of light weight lifting. Also, I LOVE the exercise ball. It makes situps and pushups much more doable and it feels like it really targets core muscles the best. Keep me posted...good luck to you!

I am so desperately sad, down, frustrated and well...just sad! I am doing everything right, tracking calories on fitday.com drink nothing but water exercising and I am still only 15 lbs lost in 4 mo's. I am awaiting results from the Endocronologist and yet, he says I have no symptoms of a health issue, he suggested I go see a dietician. I am just at a loss for what to do next. I just want to cry and cry and cry - my band is so tight i can't even eat to make me feel better *lopsided grin*....

how much fill is in your VG 11 cm band

Took 7 cc before I felt restriction. Also, it took about 3 weeks before my fill tightend all the way up, it was strange but it did take a bit of time. Now I can only eat about a 1/2 a cup of food at a time. Can not eat any kind of bread or tortillas now either.

    What color/race do you see?

That is absolutely disgusting, sad and I can't even imagine going through that. I count my blessings every day that I grew up in a home that saw no color and a community that was very progressive (Santa Barbara, CA). I remember being called a "nigger lover" when I was in high school becuase it wasn't "cool" back then to date outside of your race. That alone would make me so mad. I tell my son about stories like yours and tell him to be careful and don't always trust that because he is in a crowd that there are those that secretly hate u because of your skin color. Always be aware and be careful cuz you never know. I love my baby and he never was called a name until elementry school when someone at school started calling him names. I supply my child with all kinds of black history information and facts that schools don't teach. He is very ploud of his black heritage and identifies himself as a black man, even though he is bi-racial. He gets along with everyone but he will always check the black box and I'm happy with that. I told him he needs to marry a black girl to make sure he keeps the "black blood" in our family, LOL. Naw, he can do what he wants but he knows that's what I'd prefer. Too many beautiful black women get passed over for lighter girls - that may seem like an oxy-moron because I am not black and I am married to a black man. But that's how I feel. I've never ever dated someone that alwayas dated white girls becuase I felt that they only liked a color, not the person. My husbands first wife was black and he never dated a non-black girl b4 me. We just clicked and he fell in love with me as a person, not my color and that is how it should be. Although, I only date black men so that's kind of hypocritical, ha? I just don't find white men attractive or interesting enough to be more then a friend.....Also, white guys don't ever ask me out after then know I have black children and have been married to a black man....

    What color/race do you see?

My very 1st boyfriend was black and I've never dated any other. White boys are corny to me. The black men I have dated and married have a certain swagger, personality, sense of humor and strength. :D

    What color/race do you see?

Color don't matter - your either corny or your cool. I'm cool

Bi-Polar Meds - The skinny and the fat

Thanks! No, I haven't tried Celexa or Lemectal...I'm really interested in Abilify and possibly Paxil or Wellbutrin together. I've got to get off this Effexor first. DO NOT EVER GET ON THIS MEDICATION, IT IS HELL GETTING OFF!!! I took Topamax for 6 mo's and felt "dumbed down" the entire time. I couldn't think well, I couldn't remember, horrible! Didn't lose any weight but didn't gain any then either...

What is my Malfunction! I'm not losing!

I think everyone is right. It may be the Effexor. I've went down from 150 mg to 75 mg and my doctor just now prescribed me 37.5 mg pills. I'm going to slowly get off of it. A very kind LBT'er here PM'd me and told me to try Abilify for my mania since it's currently not being treated. She has a friend that did it and when all other meds caused weight gain, on Abilify her friend started to LOSE weight....

What is my Malfunction! I'm not losing!

I for the last few months have been almost perfect with my eating and exercising. I could up the protein a bit but I am not that far off track. I drink a ton of Water and in fact yesterday I had gained 3 lbs! Some days I eat as low as 600 calories a day. A "big" day would be a max of 1200 calories and that is rare!

What is my Malfunction! I'm not losing!

I have really given the Effexor some serious thought as a possible culprit. I went down from 150 mg a day to 75 mg a day about 3 mo's ago - still no difference in weight loss. This is a very hard drug to get off of. The withdrawal symptoms are VERY severe. I do want to try to get off of it again though. I am bi-polar and I have been afraid to treat anything for my mania because I don't want to add to my weight problems and now I might go off entirely. I am just so scared of nutting up tough I've also scheduled an appt for an Endocrinologist next week to check for other possible causes. My mother has an underactive thyroid and had to have hers removed...

    Boohoo

I'm having the same problems. I exercise, eat 900 - 1100 calories a day. I drink water and have only lost 20 lbs in 3 mo's. The first 10 were the 1st month. I'm going to see an Endocronolist next week.

    Tummy Tuck

I would love the Dr's details when you are up to it Telly. If you don't mind I'd like to know how much the TT cost as well. How long did you stay in the hospital in Mexico? Did you have to have those icky drains? Pain level compared to LB surgery? Travel home, painful?
