When I was in the hospital and asked the doctors and nurses if I could throw a pair of boxer briefs on after the surgery so my junk wasn't hanging out and my rear end wasn't showing in the back they said no. They told me only women can put underwear on after surgery. I didn't mind but isn't that a little biased? I also noticed that in the pre-op area the women had the pants on that doctors and nurses wear under their gown and the men there, including myself, looked like escaped mental patients with just the gown on. lol

A week out from surgery and I'm feeling much better. I can sleep on my stomach again . I got my staples out on Tuesday and weighed in at 371 so I have lost 41 pounds since the end of May. I'm starting to get bored with this liquid diet but ill be on "baby food" in less then a week. Anyways, I hope the rest of you June bandsters are doing great.

I ended up not shaving and they just buzzed it off right after I was put under.

Well, I'm back everyone and my surgery went smooth. I went into admitting around 7:30am and onto pre-op around 9:30am. I was finally in the OR around 10:00am. I think I woke up around noon in recovery with an oxygen mask on my face and feeling high as a kite. The only bad thing from the whole surgery was spending 9 hours in recovery. I didn't get a room until 9:30pm that night but at least it was a private room. I slept for 2-3 hour increments in my room since they come in and wake you up all the damn time. They even woke me up to give me something to help me sleep. Fast forward to 11:00am the next morning I got my GI series and the okay to go home.
The liquid codine and gas-x strips I have help but I feel like Mike Tyson used my stomach as a punching bag and my neck is so tender like it was hanging off the table during surgery. I'm a stomach sleeper so I'm not happy. :tt1: Anyways everything is going as planned. I'll keep you all posted.

Dr. Olsofka. Started my pre-op liquid diet today! I'm really not supposed to start it until Weds., (surgery is next Weds., June 24) but I'm SO wanting to make sure that my liver shrinks enough! My surgery is the 24th also and I'm on day 2 of the liquid diet! :bored:

Add me to the list... I'm getting my surgery on June 24th! :ihih:

I just saw my surgeon and he gave me my date and barring any insurance problems I will be having the surgery on June 24th. I got all my instructions from the nurse and was told I need to stay overnight and start the liquid diet on the 14th. I have never had surgery or stayed overnight in a hospital so I'm excited and crapping my pants at the same time. :cursing: I'll update this thread as much as possible for anyone interested. Wish me luck!
Here is my intro thread with more background info.

Whats up everyone my name is Chris. I've been on "the lap band journey" for about 9 months now. During the summer of last year I went to my doctor for a checkup and he asked if I ever thought about weight loss surgery. I told him I thought about it and have done a little research but haven't pursued anything yet. He recommended me to an associate of his who does WLS so after a couple of weeks of thinking about it I gave him a call. I spoke to his secretary and got an appointment for January since he wasn't accepting any new patients until after the New Year.
The day of my consultation finally came around after a long holiday season. I did the basic physical(weight/height/etc.) and from that he determined I was a candidate for surgery. Fast forward to today, I'm now done with the Upper GI series, liver/gall bladder ultrasound, stress test/EKG, nutritionist, and psych eval. My last step is to see my surgeon again next week and hopefully submit everything to insurance. If all goes well I will get my date for surgery. Wish me luck.

Can anyone who has Oxford United Healthcare tell me how the process was for them. How long approval/disapproval took, requirements, etc.? Im in NYC if that matters. Thanks for the help.

Hi, I'm on my journey to have the lap band surgery and I've done most of my testing(GI series, stress test, ekg, ultrasounds) but still need to see a nutritionist & psychiatrist before everything is submitted to the insurance company. My doctor gave me a few names but said I can use someone else since he is not affiliated with any of them. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good nutrionist and psychiatrist in the New York City area that deals with lap band patients? Thanks for your help.

Is there a cliff notes for this thread?
