Huge NSV and a thank you

Good for you for having the guts to do something to take your life back!!! What an awesome accomplishment. I would love to do something like that.
  2. Brad- WELL SAID!!!!!!!!!!
  3. You sound like you enjoy the same foods I do!!!! I was always a carb addict! This is how I whitled down the carb cravings. After I got banded the majority of my meals were just chicken and steamed veggies. I quit buying garlic bread. At restaurants (such as Olive Garden) I would only make sure I had 1-2 breadsticks instead of the 3-4-5 I had in the past. pizza once in a while won't kill you. Just make sure you don't have it often and Pasta every once in a while is okay too. Just make sure to add exercise into your daily routine and make sure you don't have these things too often. As you get tighter, certain breads will give you a harder time to enjoy and you will find you stay away from stuff like that. Good luck to you! You can do it.

    NSVs!

In the almost 18 months that i've been banded I've had a few NSV's already. 1. Fitting comfortably on an airplane seat w/o having to use a seat belt extender last summer when I went to Florida 2. Going from size 26/28 (busting out of them) to wearing a size 20 in pants and size 14 in shirts 3. Getting complimented. I've had complete strangers where I work approach me and tell me I've inspired them to lose weight. 4. Constantly being happy!!! This is a major one. i am a very happy person nowadays 5. I was in a wedding last month and I wasn't the "fat one". As a matter of fact my dress I ordered was a size 16W and it had to be taken in on top quite a bit! 6. Taking 5 mile walks with my boyfriend and dog on a regular basis Next month I am looking forward to going to an amusement park and fitting on the seats comfortably. I went to disney last summer and was able to fit on those rides comfortably but this will be the 1st time I'm going to a park with a bunch of thrill rides and some of those rides are old rides and aren't as "large person" friendly.

    Feeling really discouraged

My doctor wanted me to lose 10-15 lbs in three weeks after my surgery and before my first fill and I had already lost 60 lbs. on my own and with all the pre and post op dieting. I sometimes think these doctors took speed courses in the surgery itself to get on the lucrative bandwagon of WLS but don't know anything about proper follow up. Good luck. OMG are you serious??? That period of time is known as "bandster hell" and he expected you to lose 10-15 lbs??? wow. insane!!!

    Food Addict

I think the majority of us on here have food addictions. I think overeaters anonymous would help you alot. At least you have the guts to admit that you are an overeater and want to seek help. In the meantime I would make sure to stock up on fruits and vegetables and no junk food. That way if you do want something to eat you have healthier foods to choose from. Good luck!!!!

    Feeling really discouraged

I would DEFINITELY switch over to the lb doctor! That explains why your doctor expects you to lose so much in 1 month. For a lapbander you are definitely on track with your weight loss as anybody else in your shoes. So DO NOT get discouraged!!!! Your doctor has expectations that are realistic with a gastric bypass patient. Keep up the good work.

    Feeling really discouraged

Wow are you serious??? That is extremely unrealistic expectations that your doctor has of you. The whole purpose of getting lapband in the 1st place is that you are expected to lose only 1-2 lbs a week. 7 lbs in 6 weeks is actually the average. The most i've ever lost in 1 month is 8 lbs (2 lbs a week) and that average only lasted about 4 months before that slowed down. Don't let your doctor's unreal expectations discourage you. Are there other LB doctors in your area that you can start seeing? I would definitely change doctors. Granted we do have to "do our parts" but still for him to expect you to lose 10 lbs a month? That is very unrealistic. Good luck to you and DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!! It is worth it to regain your health and your life back!!!

    Attracting women.

I like big guys as well. Not short, obese guys but tall and a tad bit over weight. The teddy bear type. There's just something sexy about that.

    Discrimination / social marginalization

When I was heavier I was pretty much invisible to people. That's a hard thing to get used to is having people especially men paying attention to me.
  12. When I first got banded I was losing 2 lbs a week steadily. Then about 6 months into it I started losing 2 lbs every other week. Then in November I hit a wall and stayed there for about 6 months and I've lost 10 lbs in the last 6 weeks. So my weight loss while steady at first is now all over the place.
  13. Since you are so young your skin has more elasticity to it. Taking Omega 3s (fish oil) helps out alot in that department as well. Good luck!
  14. I eat lunch and dinner and then break up Breakfast into 2 small Snacks because i'm so tight in the mornings. Breakfast is usually a granola bar followed up by fruit a couple hours later. Or Carnation Instant Breakfast followed up by a granola bar or fruit a couple hours later. Lunch is usually half a lean cuisine and dinner is whatever i cook on the grill. Usually it's chicken and some kind of vegetable or a stir fry.

My First "STUCK"!!!! (and I'm so happy!!!)

lol. Ahh I remember my very 1st "stuck" incident and I chuckle. Yea it sucks getting stuck.

The problem with fat people is....

After LB our relationship with food must change. Otherwise we spend miserable meals making a run for the bathroom. I've been there. I come from a family of fast eaters and I've had to learn the hard way to slow wayyy down. It sucks to see people going back for seconds and you are still working on your little bit of food that you know you will still be working on 20 minutes later when they will be going back for 3rds or even dessert and then you know there's no way in hell you can even think about dessert at that point. I get disgusted watching people eat. The way they shovel food in their mouth just grosses me out. (or maybe i'm just jealous because I can't do that anymore). Changing my relationship with food has been extremely hard. I have good days and I have bad days but I know I will never give up!!! I have never been happier in my life!!!

    Totally Unsure!!!

The decision to get a lapband over a gastric bypass is a personal one. My main reasons for getting lapband were: Did not want my insides cut and rerouted Knew people who had GB that gained their weight back Also didn't wanna have to take a handful of supplements everyday because my body doesn't absorb it. Only supplement I take is a Multivitamin. Also at the time I was 1st considering surgery GB was the only option available and it wasn't done lapropscopically and the risk of dying was high (obviously not they can do it laproscopically and the risk of death is much lower). Only thing about GB is you do lose the weight much faster. It's taken me 17 months to get off 100 lbs with 75 lbs left to lose. With a GB I would probably be at my goal weight right now. The band isn't always food friendly. There are days I have a hard time keeping anything down. Especially the real humid days I know that I won't be able to eat much food and have to be very careful of what I do eat or else it will come back up. At least with a GB you don't have to worry about that kind of restriction. You know how much your stomach can hold and that's it. You don't have to worry about whether or not it's too humid out or even how you sit at a chair at the dinner table. Because yes even the angle of the chair determines whether or not food gets stuck in your band. There's nothing worse than looking forward to eating something specific (such as a steak) and not being able to enjoy your dinner because you get stuck and are running to the bathroom every 2 minutes trying to get it up. As much as I love my band and do not regret my decision for 1 second there is an ugly side to it too. Just as there is an ugly side to the GB and i'm sure even the sleeve. Good luck with your decision!!!! You have a lot of pros and cons to think about.
  18. I've been banded now for 18 months and I'm 75 lbs away from my goal. I do not regret my decision for one minute!!! I cannot believe how happy I am. How much healthier I feel. I've lost 100 lbs that I never would've lost otherwise.

    Is anyone stuck?

I was stuck between 220 and 224 for about 6 months. I didn't give up hope I made sure I went to the doctor for fills and and tried exercising more and changing up my diet and nothing worked!!! I just had to ride it out. In May I went to my doctors office and I was 225 that day. They gave me a slight fill and it put me right at my sweet spot. Since that time 6 weeks ago I've lost 10 lbs now. You just have to ride it out, keep getting your fills and doing what you gotta do. Your body will eventually respond and you will starting losing again!
  20. Okay here's my story. This happened not even 2 weeks ago (after I had lost over 95 lbs). I work in the political world and this potential candidate came into my office and I walked with him over to the cashier's office so he could pay for his maps he had ordered. As we walked away from the counter he turned to me and asked me when my baby was due. I was mortified. I looked at him and in my loudest voice possible I shouted out I'm not pregnant I'm just really fat!!! His face turned beat red and he profusely apologized. I hope I made him feel like a jackass. He definitely won't be getting my vote!!!

Who Has Lost Over 100 Pounds?!?!

I can finally post here!!! 17 1/2 months after I underwent my journey I am proud to say that I've lost 100 lbs!!!! Yay! Go me!!! I am so proud of myself.
  22. Hey Carrie! My summer's been great so far. I've overcome my plateu and have officially lost 100 lbs. I feel so great. I went to my doc 6 weeks ago and she gave me a fill that put me at my "sweet spot" and since that time i've lost 10 lbs.

I had a great 4th of July. I went to my mom's house in Allegan, MI and we spent the whole time at the beach. It was great!

As for you the reason why you are probably continuously getting stuck is because you are upchucking (for lack of a better word) too much and the area has become inflamed. Have you tried going on a liquid diet for a week or so (while you heal) and then tried going back to regular foods? How many cc's do you have?I notice that humidity plays into things alot. on those hot and humid days I have a very hard time keeping food down.

  24. Hi Carrie! I haven't logged in here in a really long time. I'm doing great. I've hit a plateu but I went and got a fill and since then i'm starting to move past it. Hopefully the rest of the weight (last 78 lbs) will melt off me! How are things with you?
