  1. I had a bit of lactose intolerance, but I could tolerate greek yogurt and some cheeses. I took Probiotics during that time, and it seemed to help. They also make soy, veggie and other Proteins for those of us that are lactose intolerant because whey is a milk product. The lack of appetite and food being repulsive is not going to last forever, I promise. I went through the same thing, and it didn't last that long. The one thing that broke me out of the repulsive food stage was to start trying new foods with different flavor profiles. I also over seasoned food. If the recipe called for a 1tsp of something, I'd throw in 2-3tsp for extra flavor. I swear I threw so much chili powder, fajita seasoning, lemon pepper and garlic pepper during that stage because I needed lots of flavor.

    Am I the Only One?

You betcha chickee ! ! ! Could you possibly do stand up crunches? I don't know where in your back is problematic, but I do stand up crunches and swear by them. If you want more info on them, you can google them or youtube has videos. I didn't cross my leg over my knee for months when I was still heavy, but you can do them easier than getting on the floor.
  3. Stock your fridge and pantry with healthy alternatives. When you want to snack, grab some beef Jerky or cheese. Not saying it's great to give in to these old nasty habits, but I'd rather grab some beef jerky than grabbing the Funyuns or cake icing, right? ?? You can do this, and the scale will move. shake things up, focus on you, your Protein intake and start moving if you can work out.
  4. Total slider foods especially chips, cheetos, velveeta pretty much anything that is a fatty, carby food is a slider for me.. Plus, with the carbs you could have been hungry (if you keep carbs low on normal days) because sometimes eating carbs causes carb cravings and hunger. You'll be okay. I can eat what seems like a bottomless bowl of chips, pretzel, heck even rice goes right down with zero restriction. It's extremely difficult to stretch out our sleeve, and it would take a huge amount of chronic overeating to do so, and even then, your stomach will never be pre-op size. I would encourage you to measure your portions, track your food in calories. Protein and carbs and don't rely on getting that "full feeling" because it's just going to lead to overeating. I say this because I can now eat double what I could at your stage, and if I relied on my full signal, or let me stomach tell me to stop eating, I would eat a lot more food. Parties happen, we all attend some sort of function, the sleeve is just that tool we need to get us out of the serving line and really into the social/entertaining aspect of the party ! ! !

    Am I the Only One?

Maddie, I didn't drop sizes until I was out of the "plus size/Woman's sizes". As for your belly, can you ride a stationary bike? That really does help with the tummy area as well. I know it's frustrating, but the fat will redistribute and you'll get into smaller sizes as the months progress. I was wearing a solid 6 back in April, and today I'm in a 2 sometimes a 4, and a few 0's, but I weigh the same? ? ? It's kind of weird, but things shift and it'll all work out in the end.
  6. Fabulous news ! ! ! Hopefully, your surgeon will get a RX for a PPI, and you won't have to deal with acid at all. It really is great to be acid free. I've had a couple episodes of breakthrough reflux, and I was absolutely miserable for hours. You'll want more than just something to treat the symptoms so you can heal, get in your fluids and progress the food stages.
  7. Your tastes will change several times, and it will all take several weeks to figure out. You're not crazy, but your body thinks you are. It's been through a lot of changes, just keep sipping, concentrate on staying hydrated and keep your spirits up. Each week gets better and better.

    Buddy available here!!! :)

Congrats on your sleeve. . . The first couple of weeks are the toughest, and you won't really get full on liquids because of the liquids in, liquids out. Can you have full liquids yet? Like creamy Soups, Protein drinks mixed with milk, sugar free pudding/custards/cottage cheese/yogurt? ? ? Those definitely help with that empty feeling. Hang in there, once you get to mushies, it gets much easier and you'll feel restriction! ! !
  9. I'd get some Gaviscon for immediate relief, and grab some generic Prilosec (Omeprazole), and start taking it. The Pepcid is just kind of taming the acid symptoms. Zegerid OTC is available as well which is a combination of 2 drugs in one, but I'm not familiar with how quick it will work for you.
  10. If I were you, I'd get something over the counter to help with the acid reflux. Typically, the main reason we go on a PPI is not only to control acid, but it's too protect the staple line during the first crucial months post-op. Your nausea is preventing you from eating and probably drinking which can lead to dehydration and that will only make the nausea worse. If you have to, get some Gatorade or Pedialyte to get your fluids in. You can not continue to feel miserable and suffer with acid. The over the counter meds are a wonderful thing, and you really have to take care of yourself. Don't remain miserable.
  11. The post-op diet can seem like a con, but it'll be the same with any WLS. The sipping thing can be tedious, but as the months pass, and your stomach heals, sipping is not required. I drink like a "normal" person and have been doing so for months. I honestly can't think of one con. Dining out is now an experience, and not an adventure in how much I can eat, get stuffed, and waddle out feeling like a Water buffalo. I enjoy eating out 1000 times more now than I did pre-op. It's amazing how much fun/fellowship can occur when I'm not shoveling food into my mouth. Gas pain is temporary. The hair loss thing was a little worrisome, but it grows back. I'll trade a little bit thinner hair to not have back fat. All the "little" things are simply a means to an end.

6 days out already Eating solids

I have no idea what the stats are on plication leaks. I know that surgery has it's on set of unique risks and complications, but I have only done minimal reading on that procedure.
  14. Stalls happen, and are very common early out. Your body is still healing, and trying to figure out what the heck you've done to it. You might still have some Fluid retention from surgery, and the scale will move. If you didn't pre-op, take some measurements because while the scale might not move, you will be losing inches. Fat is bulky, and takes up a bunch of space. Muscle is lean, takes up less space, but still weighs the same as a pound of fat. Your clothes might start fitting differently, try to notice the little things about your body to keep your spirits up. Your body will lose weight, but don't fret right now on the numbers. Logically, with your calorie, Protein and Water intake, you'll lose weight. Give your body time to adjust, and don't be so hard on yourself.
  15. Are you on a true PPI such as Nexium, Prilosec, Prevacid or Protonix? Pepcid is not going to stop the acid production because it's an h2 blocker. It works differently than proton pump inhibitors, and is only treating the symptoms of acid reflux. Can you contact your surgeon and ask if you can go on a PPI? Most sleeve patients have to go on a PPI for at least 3-6 months post sleeve. I've been on Prilosec since I was 6 weeks out, and won't go off of it because I'm not willing to deal with acid reflux or false hunger. If you can't get help from your surgeon, you can get Prilosec and Prevacid over the counter. Take on an empty stomach and wait at least 30-60 minutes before eating. Prilosec can take up to 7-10 days to kick in completely. Gaviscon is good for breakthrough reflux as well.

The more I eat, the more I lose?

Yeppers, it happened to me even when I was trying to slow down my weight loss before I hit goal. It continued to happen even when I added in white carbs, and up to 1200 calories a day.

    Leak? Any ideas?

Yes I was allowed to eat. I was about 7 weeks post op, and the abscesses were not attached to my stomach. 2 were floating in my abdominal cavity, and one was in my pelvic cavity. They think microscopic bacteria was left behind from the leak repair even with a couple hours of abdominal flushing bacteria can be left behind.

    Leak? Any ideas?

YAY YAY that's great news ! ! ! Because of the location of my abscesses, I was hospitalized for a week, had 2 drains placed, and was on IV antibiotics for 7 days then came home with drains for a couple of weeks, and then a couple more weeks of oral antibiotics.

    How much can you eat

Yeah, it's tough to figure it all out early on. Also, as time goes by, you'll be able to eat more. I can now eat double what I could at 2-3 months post-op and that is completely normal. Your body is still adjusting, and you'll figure out your own full signal. My girlfriend gets the sniffles/runny nose as her full signal which is totally weird, but if she doesn't stop eating after her nose starts running/sniffling, she's a little uncomfortable, and usually has to get that last bite out of her sleeve.
  20. They aren't the "best" choice, but when nothing else works some form of Protein is better than NONE. There is whey protein isolate in them, and while not everyone has issues with the shakes, I did and I had no other option. I tried over 20 brands/flavors and types of protein. Either they made me puke, or I could not tolerate the taste/texture. You can mix the shots in some crystal light or the G2 Gatorade to dilute them out because they are thick in consistency, and very "sweet tart" tasting which you might find repulsive as well. If you can find the "PROTEIN POWDER" forum on here, there are tons of places to get samples and you might find one you like from those resources.
  21. Dr. Wade Barker is awesome from the friends that I have in Texas that have gone to him for their sleeve and revisions.

    How much can you eat

liquids aren't going to give a huge amount of restriction. Once you hit more solid food, even mushies, you'll feel more restriction. Measuring is a good habit to get into so you don't experience any of the negatives of overeating. Your body is still healing so your nerves have been severed, stapled off, and aren't working properly so you might not get a full signal. I didn't get one for several months, and even then I thought "ehhh I'm okay with one more bite" and that one more bite came back up. I didn't recognize hiccups as a full signal, but then I finally figured it out.
  23. I just saw that post. I'll definitely keep her in my thoughts and prayers! ! !

    Leak? Any ideas?

Not until I had been on antibiotics for a few days. I had a nagging, discomfort when urinating, and that's why they thought I had a urinary tract infection. I did have a little bacteria in my urine when they tested it, but I had no abdominal pain or discomfort when eating/drinking until I had been on antibiotics for about 4-5 days. Then one day it hit and I could barely get out of bed, and was admitted to the hospital for a week.
