Thank you bunches. I've heard other surgeons say not immediately post-op. I think I was close to a month out, had those drains and the liquid lortab was knocking me out. Obviously, I'm not advocating going against doctor's orders, but I have read more than one article on NSAID use with VSG and that was one of my determining factors in deciding VSG over RNY for my revision. I literally hate taking tylenol. Here's an excerpt from the Thread on here from Information from Dr. Jossart: http://verticalsleevetalk.com/ask-dr-gregg-jossart/2356-vertical-sleeve-gastrectomy-information-dr-gregg-jossart.html

Just because I've never heard the "for life" rule with the sleeve, did he give you a reason? Since we have a normal stomach, just smaller in size, the theory is that there is not a chance of ulceration like with RNY and Band patients with their little pouches. Edit to add: I'm not a fan of using Tylenol due to the liver stuff. Especially through the rapid weight loss phase when our livers are being tasked double/triple time to compensate for all of the changes we are putting our bodies through.

Can you tell me what's going on......
Tiffykins replied to tia_1417's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can you eat chicken/tuna/egg salad? You can use miracle whip lite for super low carb and fat option? That was my go to food for high protein/low carb. Cheese sticks, can you drink/tolerate the protein shakes/mixes? Most have 140+ calories, low carb and high protein. Protein bars by Oh Yeah are a low carb, higher calorie option. -
I take NSAIDs a few times a week. There are no medication restrictions with VSG. I definitely make sure to take them right before a meal or a snack to ensure that you have coated your stomach. I took a couple of 800mg Ibuprofen when I was in Tx and didn't have any Alleve. I swallowed it with Water then eat a couple little slices of deli meat. It caused zero discomfort or any issues with my sleeve. I used Child's motrin post-op with my surgeon's okay because I was tired of being knocked out with the liquid lortab.

Can you tell me what's going on......

I would definitely request getting tested for insulin resistance. It's very common, and many patients that have the diagnosis are given meds, and the weight starts coming off. If you are tracking your food and Water intake, and you're getting in 60 gr of Protein, less than 30-40gr of carbs, and 64oz of water with 600-800 calories per day, then there maybe something metabolic going on. I know you're frustrated, but there can be an answer for you. It kind of sounds like you aren't getting in enough calories. Do you access to a nutritionist that can help you with a new meal plan? That's where I would start, first with insulin resistance testing, and then meeting a nutritionist to get a meal plan. -
UPDATED: These were absolutely delicious, BUT (you knew it was coming) they were an epic fail on the George Foreman Grill. John's exact statement : "In the word of the Iron Chef's, you would receive max points for originality and taste, but a -5 for plating and presentation." He got a good whack on the arm, but he is completely correct. I think the double grill is just too heavy as it pushed all the burgers down even more thin, and they just kind of fell apart. But, these were some of the best hamburgers we've ever eaten. They broke apart into about 4-5 chunks, and I laid all the chunks together on the guy's hamburger buns. I just ate 1.5 chunk (about 3oz). I hate about 1/2 of one chunk, then covered the rest in homemade queso dip with Rotel tomatoes and green chiles, and some Frito scoops. Maybe I'll throw them on the charcoal grill with the grate covered with foil. I'll figure it out, maybe I could add some pork rinds as a binder. I'm not sure, but all of us loved the flavor. It was a great tasting burger, but didn't look to appealing.

Youtube Videos and your photos
Tiffykins replied to Tiffykins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well, she never replied to the Youtube service team, and she's being investigated, the videos are apparently being removed from her channel. I should get an update in a few days. Several other members on OH that I recognized, and contacted also filed privacy complaints. So, this is a big problem for this person to be trolling weight loss surgery sites to snag pics. I swear if the uploader would have just asked permission, and not copped a sh*tty attitude with me, I would have never had a problem with it. I'm still going through her videos and reporting more videos that she's got me in. -
A member here, youknowit, let me know she had seen my before and some after pics of me in some youtube videos. Shontel had let me know a couple months ago that she had seen my pics in a youtube video as well, but didn't do anything about it. Now, I find this kind of creepy. Least to say, I did not authorize the usage of my photos. I contacted the poster, and advised them that they were violating the TOS of youtube. I'm assuming they snagged my photos from this forum because my OH is completely private. So, I went in and made my photo album here available to only my friends. I gave the poster 24 hours to reply. If I do not hear from them, I will report the privacy violation to Youtube. If your album is public and you would like it to be somewhat private, go to your User CP, hit Privacy Options, and then make it available only to your friends. You can also make it only viewable by you. I'm not completely upset by having my pictures out there. It's the principle that the poster did not ask for permission to use them. I realize the internet is not private. I realize once it's out there, it's out there. That is NOT my concern so I don't need a lecture on posting pics on the internet. My point is that the pics were snagged, and used without any consideration or authorization. Even a common courtesy to say "hey I'm making some videos on youtube and would like to use your pics." would have been appreciated. Also, the poster has a weight loss forum/community (not just for WLS patients) that he/she is trying to get people to join. So, least to say, we'll see what happens.

These remind me of a nutter butter kind of. These are softer than most Protein bars I've eaten. I don't like the super dense ones. I kind of feel like it takes my stomach forever to digest the super dense ones. Watch for high sugar alcohol as it can cause gassiness. Watch for high carbs Most of the Protein Bars I've seen have whey, and soy isolate. Oh Yeah PB cups. ISS Research Oh Yeah! Product Review- Thomas Bagel Thins, Arnold Sandwich Thins
Tiffykins posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
I know many avoid bread or other similar products, but I thought I would share my review of the Thomas bagel thins and Arnold's sandwich thins. I know there are others out here that do not completely avoid breads and other options on their meal plans. They don't taste like bagels at all. But, I absolutely love them. They have several varieties and flavors. I picked up the "everything" flavored bagel thins and the 100% whole wheat sandwich thins. I can only eat 1 thin toasted with some cream cheese, or I pop them under the broiler with some turkey deli meat and a slice of thin cheese. For me, it's a great alternative to bread. I will probably try soft poaching an egg white and make a sandwich out of them with a little avocado mayo mixture I conjured up a couple weeks ago. Even egg salad sounds yummy on these LOL. I plan on making some mini pizzas out of them tomorrow for an after school snack for my kiddo and get his opinion. I quit buying pre-packaged/frozen stuff and started experimenting with different options that I could control the ingredients and nutritional value. pizza sauce, turkey pepperoni or some canadian bacon, turkey bacon and some cheese under the broiler for a few minutes. Both products offer 5 grams of Protein per slice. Pepperidge Farm and Orowheat also have similar products, but I grabbed the ones that were on sale this past week. Here's some recipe ideas from the Arnold's website as well. Arnold Bread - Sandwich Thins? - Tasty Sandwiches For those that like to use WW points, each thin only counts as 1 point for both products from what I have found on the net. Just thought I would share. -

Let's Call This A Date....
Tiffykins replied to gatormomof2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Many congrats on getting your sleeve date. I think most patients have "food funerals" pre-op. The one thing that I kept reminding myself is that with the sleeve there really are no food restrictions. I seriously eat all of my favorites and have lost all desire to eat large volumes. I eat my small portion, and if I want more I wait a couple of hours and eat a little more. That's the greatest thing, after the healing, and your progression through the post-op diet phase, you really do get to eat the things that you love. Once you are close or at goal, those options open up even more ! ! ! I eat really "good" food, and while I didn't eat a lot of junk while I was losing, now I definitely eat all the good, yummy stuff that keeps me sane, and my body fueled. I still don't eat a lot of junk. My body runs better on better quality food, but I never deprive myself of something that I truly want. You're gonna love it, your kiddos will love it, and you'll feel so much better. Best wishes and keep us posted on all your progress. -
Immediately post-op ice cold stuff didn't work at all. Room temp was fine, and warm liquids were fabulous. Around 2-3 months out, I could tolerate ice cold stuff. But, I still prefer room temperature liquids even now. I think a lot of that has to do with my sensitive teeth, and years of not drinking cold beverages.

Anyone else sleeved on or around Feb 27th 2010?
Tiffykins replied to tiaras's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have decided to not go off of it. Some patients wean off of it, but they find their hunger returns or certain foods trigger acid. For me, it's just not something I'm willing to deal with at this point in my journey. I love not ever being hungry, and I love super spicy foods. So, for now, I'm staying on it. My surgeon is fine with me being on it since I'm not having any adverse effects. Good luck, and keep posting on your progress. -
Anyone else sleeved on or around Feb 27th 2010?
Tiffykins replied to tiaras's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can only eat about half of what you've listed, and I'm almost 11 months out. But, that doesn't mean something is wrong with your sleeve. I'm only 5'2" so my sleeve may be shorter than yours. Also, I can get in more food if I eat super slow rather than just 20-30 minutes which is my surgeon's recommendation for meals. But, I still can't get in that amount of meat. For the hunger thing, are you on an acid reducer like Prilosec, Protonix, Prevacid, Nexium? If not, a lot of patients that talk about hunger after eating a meal, find that going on an acid reducer also known as a Proton Pump Inhibitor like those listed above find resolution in there hunger issues. I had similar feelings earlier out, and I had my surgeon put me on Prilosec 20mg. I take 1 in the morning and wait 1 hour to eat. I am literally never, ever hungry. You can get Prilosec and Prevacid over the counter now so if you can't get a prescription try one of those and see if it helps. It may take a few days for it to kick in, but a lot of patients that had the same problem found immediate relief when they took a PPI on a daily basis. -

LOL, I'm holding steady at 123lbs. I'll have to search them out. I'm snacking so much it's ridiculous. I'm up to eating 7 meals/snacks a day. I am seriously tired of eating. -

You fricken rock ! ! ! I'll have to check those out because I LOVE PRETZELS. Some bready stuff are completely sliders for me now. Others not so much. I like the bagel chips as well with dips or cream cheese. -
Have you tried SF Jello? That really made a huge difference when I was on Clear liquids for 17 days. I'm a firm believer that we should trust our surgeons/nutritionist as they are the professionals. I know they aren't gods, but they have way more experience than we do on this procedure. food intolerances from advancing your diet too quickly can cause vomiting which can cause stress on your staple line. I promise I am not trying to scare you, but the guidelines that your surgeon have are in place for many reasons. Hang in there, once you get to full liquids, sf pudding/custards/greek yogurt/ and thinned/strained cream Soups, you'll definitely feel better. Just a couple more days, and you'll get more variety, and you'll feel so much better.

Frustrated and Date-Less
Tiffykins replied to Morgandobes's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ohhh Lisa, I'd be absolutely livid. I would fight as well, and be your biggest advocate. Make your case, and tell him that by having the band out and waiting that much time without a solid reason as to why, is not going to work for you. Fingers are crossed that you get a date SOON.
