melodyssss reacted to LaLoLaughs in I had an "aha" moment finally (with pics)
So I'm 3.5 months post op, down 50 since surgery, 60 from my highest weight ever. I'm still struggling to see any major changes, except a mighty empty closet. I know, mentally, I've lost the weight, but I think I'm still struggling with emotionally allowing myself to see any difference. Perhaps bc I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop and regain the weight?! I don't know, but today I had my "aha" moment. All because of a silly thermal shirt I've always wanted to wear but was too self conscious to do so. I still threw a wrap around it bc it's cold on the east coast but I kind of didn't want to lol
I debated about putting this pic up, afraid to seem narcissistic, but truthfully, the before and afters really helped make my decision when thinking about getting the surgery, so I hope I can pay it forward.
    When was your "aha" moment?

    Hello all-
    Here are my stats:
    Surgery date: 11/18/2014
    Pre op: 339 lbs
    Day of surgery: 325 lbs
    Current: 312 lbs
    Down 27 lbs!
Everything has been going really well up until today. For some
Reason after I chewed my Vitamin i got sick several minutes later and was vomiting. Been kind of blah feeling the rest of the day.
How is everyone doing sticking to the good stages ? I admit i had some mashed potatoes on thanksgiving and a bite of yam (added milk and squished both up good). Trying to stay on phase 2 stuff but boy am I ready for stage 3.

Yep! Try to get something in your stomach before you take Vitamins. Mine use to make me deathly ill if I took them on an empty stomach (Pre-surgery)

I have to eat a bite or 2 before taking some Vitamins, some are fat soluable and can't be digested without some fat in my sleeve. Try a few sips of (non fat free) chicken Soup or a piece of ham (or lunchmeat).. anything with some fat in it. You don't have to eat a lot of fat, just a teaspoon or 2 should be enough.

I am 16 days out from surgery and down 31 pounds from pre op until today. I took my younger son to the playground today and was able to keep up with him the whole time! Climbed up, down, around everything and even slid down all the slides (I would not have fit before) and never once was out of breath. It was an amazing day. I never thought something that little could make me feel this good. My sons are a big reason for my surgery, I want to always be there for them. Today made me realize that I can do just that!!

excited, anxious...trying to get postoperative foods and supplements in order. Also swapping out winter clothes (Massachusetts) and ambivalent about packing up big summer clothes vs donating right now. I want to believe that I will never need them again.

A purée turkey and gray would probably still taste good, And maybe sweet potatoes or mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and cranberry sauce.

Cream of broccoli would be fine. I ate broccoli and cheese Soup (with the broccoli strained out) with no bad effects. If you have difficulty with it, it may help to make it a little thinner than normal.

My surgery is on Nov 18th.. only a few days away. My pre-op diet has gone well for the most part; however, i did have a few cheats (after doing well on only Protein shakes all day) where i at the small pieces of chicken and vegetables that were in my Soup. Only supposed to have broth.. and i did have a steak street taco one night. I've had my Protein Shakes other than that. I am down about 12-15 pounds. I see other people who are allowed veggies, sugar free popsicles, chicken breasts, etc.. .so hopefully i will be ok. Wishing you fellow November sleevers all the best !

I had WLS In Dec 2011 (typo on collage, sorry) weighing over 300#; reached goal of 158 in Feb 2013 and currently maintaining at 140. I had plastics with Dr Sauceda in Mexico in Oct 2013 - lower body lift, arm lift, breast lift/augmentation and a small thigh lift (ie groin incision only - not down thigh).

This collage... the 2nd photo is me at goal, with no Shapewear. A bit of a melted snowman effect. What a difference plastics make and I get constant comments about what a great body I have (compared to other 50 year olds anyway!)
I love ALL my results, but the arms made a huge difference!!! I had the "small" thigh lift. I sometimes wish I had gone for the full/long thigh lift because then I would have tight thighs like my arms. Flip side, I do wear skirts and shorts and no scar is nice... tough decision. all in all, I am happy ... estatic really!!!

Hello every one! Last year today, I was wheeled into Dr Ortiz's OR at OCC in Tijuana. Best choice I ever made for myself. I am under the goal the nutritionist sent for me and 1.5 pounds away from my original goal of 100 pounds lost. Too bad I couldn't get rid of that last pound for today!
I even was able to buy this new tunic in size small, I can't even believe that's a thing I can do now!
I won't lie, thus far my journey has been easy. I eat what I want, in small quantities and don't have to exercise every day and the weight has been coming off consistently and without worry (but I'm pretty laid back regardless). I have excess skin and need to focus on tightening it
    Stats:
    Height: 5'6
    Starting weight: 260
    Surgery weight: 245
    Nutritionists Goal: 166
    Current weight: 161.5
    My initial goal: 160
    Yay!

Well i have that same feeling and i think we feel that way because we are not used to change in our mind and body. The way i think about it is this: i have been over weight my WHOLE LIFE and the change is kinda scary. We have never experainced something unknown and new to us and that can be scary. We are so used to living a certain way, and thought it was normal. But in reality was not healthy. Change is always new to us,and also know that i am scared to! My surgery is November 20th and i have been on this pre-op diet since Halloween and doing well. I have talked to my family about this and friends and Doctor. Its Normal to feel this way and i think others might have the same feelings. But you and me are still going through with it, because deep inside you and me know what we truly need to be happy. I wish you happiness and luck and if you ever want to chat i am here.......Bajagal.

@@JennsinCA What I do is periodically go to our local Sonic and order 12 large cups of ice, with lids, in drink carriers. A lot of strange looks, and they often will say 'don't you want a bag of ice?" -- and I don't, because that's a hassle. So I take my 12 cups home and put in freezer. Every morning take out a couple and they melt to a nice soft consistency. Costs me about $4 every time I go, but I figure that's WAY less than I used to spend on fast food, so it still leaves me ahead money-wise -- and definitely calorie-wise! So yes, I'm that strange lady who pulls up and orders '12 large cups of ice please', lol

I'm having surgery on Nov. 18th. I keep thinking.."oh bummer, i wont be able to eat on Thanksgiving" and then i remind myself is the food worth me being unhealthy another day longer? I'm on my 2nd day of the pre-op liquid diet and have the rest of this week and next week to go. Praying for strength to do this! Yikes.. its getting real! Best of luck to you Cryssyd and others having surgery this month!
