    whey vs. soy

I heard that Whey is more easily digestible so I think that's why most people use it over soy. But, as far as which one is "better" I'm not sure there's any difference. So, if soy works better for you then I'm sure you're OK. I use a combo of both. Personally, soy protein seems to keep me satisfied longer than whey...go figure!

Thanks Wenjea! My advice...do everything opposite of that lady in the video hahaha. Really, I follow "Eating For Life" by Bill Phillips and get LOTS of exercise...a combo of cardio and strength training.

    Binging Banded

It happens. We all have our moments...especially when PMS kicks in!!! So PLEASE do not beat yourself up about this. Just move on and get back on track. You are not broken...you are hormonal. Trust me...I have terrible PMS problems and I know how depressed and down it can make you feel. It's terrible. So, just try to relax and get through it and hopefully you'll feel different in another day or two. Hang in there!

    When stuff gets "stuck"

In my experience it can happen due to both not eating properly (too fast, too big of a bite) but I've had it happen over the food itself too (apples with skin on). It should be a rare occurrence or else it might indicate the band is too tight or the person isn't following the rules well. So, don't worry about it too much; however, I'd bet that we all will experience the joy at some point! Now, what happens can vary as well. Sometimes it will jiggle it's way on through and I feel better almost instantly. However, sometimes you do PB (barf) but it's not barf like you're used to...the food has not gotten to the lower stomach and so no digestive juices have gotten to it meaning the food pretty much looks the same on the way back up...usually combined with a TON of sticky saliva (sliming). The sliming occurs as the body tried to lubricate the stuck food by creating a lot of thick saliva...it's nasty. But, it's basically clear saliva...you just feel like a rabid dog for awhile! Either rate, the best advice is to attempt to stay calm during one of these episodes because you want to make the situation as non-violent as possible to make it easier on your band. Usually, your body is going to decide for itself if it can get it through or if it needs to bring the food back up...you're just kinda along for the ride! That's just how things happen for me, I hope that helps!

    New Look to LapBand Talk

I found another post about this same thing. Apparently you can vote for posts that you like and it earns the poster points. What are the points for...I don't know! What happens if you don't get enough points? I don't know that either! That's the best info I've found so far!

How can I best support my wife

Very nice. I agree with the others. Just be positive but you really need to let her express what you can do to help. She will be going through so many changes over the next few months as she learns the ropes so what she needs today might be different by May. So, if you open the lines of communication now she'll feel that it's OK to share with you all of the things she's experiencing. Good luck!
  11. 26 lbs in 12 weeks is fabulous. You are averaging more than 2 lbs per weeks and that is on the high-end of success. Band loss is slower than gastric bypass so although you didn't mention this comparision, I just want to make sure you're not trying to compare yourself to that sort of weight loss. You sound like you're doing everything right and if it continues at 2 lbs per week that will translate to 104 pounds in one year!! Relax...you're doing awesome!

    So Emotional!!!

You go girl! You're on the right track now! This is a brand new opportunity for a clean, fresh start in life. It's exciting and rewarding and I'm really happy you're feeling better!

    Failed Lapband Patient

OMG...that video makes me so mad that I couldn't even finish watching it! How can she blame the band? If it's too tight...loosen it. If it's too loose tighten it. And no one should eat ice cream, chips and other junk food then cry when they don't lose weight. DUH! The funniest part is...she admits that she lost 60 lbs at first. Then let's guess what what happened?? Uh, I know...she got sick of trying and gave up. Then naturally she blamed her band instead of herself. So whatever, get your mini-bypass and eat crap foods for the rest of your life. Good luck to ya honey! You might end up thinner but you sure won't be any healthier.

    shrinking liver..

I agree...call your doc and tell them what you've been eating and see how to proceed. But, if you choose not to do that then I'd stick to pure liquids as directed and not eat any real food until told it's OK. Besides, this whole liquid diet is a pain in the butt but it's part of your initiation into banded life. It's a good way to get you real serious about all of the other life-style changes you'll have to make in order to be successful. And trust me...your lifestyle will change as a bandster. It's not hard or bad but the "old" days of eating whatever are long gone and success with a band requires a lot of dedication!

    HIVES after lap band

I am allergic to strong laundry detergents like Tide. So, I can usually use Gain without problem but one time I got a different scent and it caused hives...must've been something in the perfume agent in that "flavor". So, have you changed laundry detergent at all? Because my symptoms were the same...the hives got worse by afternoon. I guess because it took a few hours of wearing the clothes before the allergen in the detergent would start my reaction. Maybe it's something like that??

    Choking????

Nope...haven't heard of choking. If the food gets stuck it gets stuck farther down than where your "air hole" is (don't know the technical term) so I doubt food would ever sit there and choke you. I agree...Dad's just scared. Research this topic, talk to your doc then let him know what you've done. It'll show him that you are taking this lap-band surgery seriously and are evaluating all the pros/cons. Good luck!

Weird Pic - Is That My Port?!

It's not your port. I've been through several x-ray machines at airports and my port doesn't even show up on them. But, it is pretty funny...you could show your friends and tell them it's your port!!!!! My camera does the same darn thing...usually there was a spec of dust or something floating by just as the photo was taken. But...I dare ya to take another and see if it happens again...that would be freaky!
  18. Super awesome idea. I love it. You could make millions, seriously. I'm definately not complaining...but I've spent so much stinking money on clothes this year. Sometimes I only get a month or two out of them and then they're too big. I work in an office so I have to dress business-style...those clothes are not cheap and I also cannot wear clothes that don't fit properly (dress code) so I have to keep buying new stuff and I'm going broke. I'd buy your clothes that adjust to 3 different sizes!!!
  19. Nope, haven't saved a dime on groceries here. Mainly because pre-band my diet was so attrocious...I'd buy the cheapest pasta and other crappy junk stuff and that "food" is so inexpensive. Box of Little Debbie's snack cakes $1.30...fresh fruit and veggies...well, A LOT more than $1.30!!! But, I'm healthier and happier so I'm sticking with my new lifestlye. I started out with dreams of saving money on food too...but healthy food costs more, at least in my area.

    Road to "TWOterville"

OK, thanks Molly! What you said makes sense. I will stick to liquids tomorrow all day. WOW...I don't ever want to repeat a day like this because my poor belly/band has taken a beating! Not fun at all!

WHat is a PB?? I need to know please...

Yes, basically it means barfing. But, barfing post-op is different because you're not really pulling up food that has already started digesting...you're just pulling up food that is sitting in the pouch. No digestive juices are in the pouch so the food pretty much still looks like wet, chewed food! I hope that helps!
  22. This is funny...but my biggest fear was that I would feel the band and port inside me and that it would just drive me insane!!!! Now I see for myself that I cannot feel any of it but I just had visions of the port tube floating between my band and port and like tickling or something! It was stupid of me I know but I honestly had to evaluate that fear as part of my decision to have this surgery! You're normal...we all gotta do our soul-searching before a major life decision like this!

    Getting enough water?

My surgeon says the same as Beachgirl's...decaf coffee/tea and other sugar-free/calorie-free drinks count. But I'd say at a minimum you should aim for 64 oz a day because water is essential for weight loss. A lot of experts will say to drink half your weight in water ounces. For some of us that was just WAY too much water--I would have needed to drink well over a gallon a day...not possible! But, 64 is possible when you just find a way to work it into your schedule.

    So Emotional!!!

I really got depressed and super-emotional immediately post-op. A lot of other people have too and I think some of us are just extra sensitive to the anethesia because I was FULLY ready for my surgery and very excited about it but then I started experiencing the same feelings you describe which didn't make sense to me. I'd just bust into sobs and felt so badly about my life. It was terrible. But...the good news is...if you're just going through the same thing I did then it should pass in a few days!!!! You'll be OK!
  25. Awww, that is so cute! Have fun! I've never heard of this from anyone else but it's sweet!
