  1. hows the weight loss going buddy? I'm in school right now so I won't be able to have my surgery till November. It's going to be a rough Turkey day lol.

  2. Hey andy, I just saw your before and afters and want to give my compliments. Keep up the good work, you seem to have lost a lot in such a short amount of time. I won't be having my surgery till early October but you have inspired me. Maybe give me a bit of coaching along the way haha.

  3. I'm infact American haha, the track system in my uni is what specialty you prefer may it be environmental geology, hydrogeology, sedimentology etc. I want to be a seismologist some day. so geophysics for me.

So how did surgery go for you, being banded in Qatar and all that must have been some adventure.

  4. Hey guys it's Alex, So today I visited my surgeon Dr. Cohen for my consultation. It went extremely well. He was a pretty cool guy and I recommend him to anyone in Miami. He said that I will have amazing result with the surgery based on his experience, my relatively good health, age, and body type. Unfortunately it turns out that I have a lot of work to do before I can get my official date -Physical Therapy Evaluation -Psychological Evaluation - Nutritionist Evaluation (3 appointments) - two more visits with Dr. Cohen - Mandatory Pre-op group sessions. - Online videos and multiple choice test (about 40 pages of reading ) and a $300 program fee, my insurance is covering the rest  My unofficial surgery date is late September early October I'm so excited this is finally happening! Fortunately no diet, it's a good thing my insurance got the message that diets don't work.
  5. I'm excited for you, I hope all goes well! Update us tomorrow if you can Have a speedy recovery!

  7. Oh, I definitely will. I think my mom is more nervous about the whole thing than I am and she is an RN. I'm just ready to have this tool in place so I can get to work.
  8. sounds delich, I look forward to crafting my diets haha.
  9. hello, I noticed on the college student boards that you were a geology major, I am as well! I'm in my third year going for the B.s Geology traditional track.

    Yay for geologist!

  10. So I have my first appointment with the surgeon on Monday 7/13. I'm so excited! On a side note, I had an endoscopy today because I knew they were going to ask for one and it was the best sleep I ever had lol.
  11. Thanks Kristine, and good luck with your post-op. Hearing how fast you managed to pull that off has given me some hope. It would really irk me if I had to wait till winter break for my procedure. If you don't mind telling me what steps you took, I would really appreciate that.
  12. Hey guys, Alex here, I'm a 20yr old undergrad from Florida. I went to the doctor as soon as summer break began and together we began knocking out some of the pre-op test to help me speed things up (heart test, blood work, thyroid etc). My goal is to get the procedure done before I return to school 8/30 (not too sure if thats possible now). I discovered that I am pre-diabetic as well as mid-high blood pressure as a result of my weight which the doctor said increases the odds I will get approved for surgery. I have very good insurance under my mother, but there is always room for doubt with our current health care system if you know what I mean. I'm excited to say that I will be seeing a Gastroenterologist for upper GI screening and then hopefully, finally, a surgery consult and then surgery date. I say we make this the official College Student Lap Band thread. haha. I haven't noticed any others.
  13. Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and I am pleased to see how much support this community provides to those who begin their journey to a healthier life . Here is a little about my problem and what I hope to achieve with your support. I have been a heavy guy since my early teens and I have never felt my best emotionally. I am fortunate to have a partner who loves me for who I am and is very supportive. I want to go through with the surgery because my weight loss struggle has been a persistent one and dieting does not seem to work. I am pre-diabetic by my moms nursing standards and my blood pressure has gone between normal and slightly elevated. I dread visiting my doctor for the weigh in of shame. It's been like a year I believe since my last visit. I am a 20 year old full time student and I wanted to know what steps I should take to begin this journey. What struck me was this winter break my sister began to worry about my weight as did my father and they never confronted me about it before. Thanks to all,
