  1. :tongue_smilie: What the heck? I wanna know how this kind of information gets spread around or if people just make assumptions.
  2. A couple people I know thought this too! They were like OMGOMG let me see your port! So I lifted my shirt up and they were very disappointed.
  3. I'm hoping that's the case. I've gotten acid reflux with certain foods my entire overweight life, not anything major but very annoying.
  4. I get that a lot. Turns out in my case it's acid reflux. Chew some tums or something and see if that takes it away.
  5. Wow. That's just...wow.
  6. Is it possible to lose restriction when battling strep throat? I've read about post nasal drip clogging (for lack of a better term) bands but I am HUNGRY! Like I could eat a cow hungry. Anyone else experience this?
  7. All the small ones came off fine but the big one refused to come off. It became one with my skin, my surgeon eventually took it off for me at my 4 week followup. You shouldn't really need bandaids to cover them up though. I was sent home with just steristrips covering mine but when in doubt call your surgeon's office.
  8. I feel better now. All the nurses in the hospital were like you must be doing it wrong! and looked at me like I was absolutely insane.
  9. My recovery was pretty crappy too. I had surgeries and general anesthesia before but never abdominal surgery, it was god awful. I know it's REALLY hard to keep liquids down especially with post op swelling. I had what my surgeon called "excessive" swelling and I ended up readmitted for dehydration. They suggested that I try to use a medicine cup or a dixie cup and drink those every 15 minutes to half hour or so to try to get at least some Fluid in. :crying: I think I'm stupid or something. I do NOT understand at all how this works. My best friend is an RN and tried to explain it to me, the nurses in the hospital tried to explain it to me and it didn't work at all. Can you explain how this is supposed to work?! I'm like the only person who just doesn't get it.
  10. I'm 4 months out and still get nauseous if I drink too much plain water. It makes me feel like a water balloon. I try to switch it up between plain water, minute maid light products, crystal light, propel, and low cal G2 (not always the best choice).
  11. I haven't found anything that I can't eat as long as it's chewed well. I eat breads, pastas, dry meats, etc.
  12. I had to do full liquids for close to 4 weeks. I got progressed a little sooner though because my blood sugar went insane. I've had the pain under the rib cage as well even 4 months out if I overeat. My mom and aunt who had gastric bypass have the same thing. I think it's fairly common from what I've read and experienced for pain to happen around that area if you do overeat a little bit. Talk to your surgeon, see what they say, but I wouldn't get too worried about it at this point. Good luck!
  13. In the hospital I had a PCA with dilaudid. Hydrocodone does not work for me at all and never has with any past surgeries so I went home with dilaudid tabs.
  14. Exactly! I'll have a dessert shooter or something at applebees. I remember my uncle was like "can you eat that?!" and I said "it's healthy! it's made with milk! protein!" It's far better than sitting at home and eating a pint of Ben and Jerry's chunky monkey.
  15. Sure is a deterrent. Although, I'm not one to say that I can never ever have something that's not really nutritious again. I do have something once every week or two, otherwise I'd go crazy and eat a whole bag of chips or something. But that's just me of course.
  16. Absolutely. I haven't played it yet to know if you actually need the wii fit balance board or not but you can purchase that separately without purchasing Wii fit.
  17. It's called EA Sports Active. Just came out on the 19th.
  18. LOL I can't really look at jell-o or pudding anymore for quite some time.
  19. Not only swelling but the band is stitched to your stomach and you have to let scar tissue form in the back of the stomach to keep the band in place where it isn't stitched.
  20. That's awesome you guys like it. I preordered it and haven't gotten it yet. Can't wait!
  21. She stretched the pouch out AND she eats nothing but chips, cookies, chocolate, etc, then gets dumping syndrome and complains about feeling like crap. Apparently some big university hospitals are banding bypass patients, our surgeon doesn't.
  22. Just banded : Yeah they do get what I want off a list sometimes but the problem is I need to be taught to cook it. LOL Other times my dad just goes grocery shopping without telling anyone. Jenzea: My mom had her bypass in '03 and lost something like 180 lbs and she's gained 20 back which our surgeon says is normal but she's freaking out about it. She wants a lapband now. She doesn't understand the band at all. She freaks out about EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth that a bypass patient can't have but a banded one can in moderation.
  23. The local pizza place really only makes thin crust so it's fine. My dad means well, he really does, but like today I told him to pick up some chicken breast at the grocery store so I could grill it for dinner, he comes home with KFC grilled chicken and said it's chicken so it's healthy. He's also 5'6 140lbs soaking wet. He can eat ANYTHING and never gains a pound, he thinks everyone else should be the same way. My mom and I are always like this:
  24. I had to be on optifast for 2 weeks prior to surgery also. Then 48 hours prior to surgery was clear liquids. My allowed list for that had sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, diet sprite, and broths. After surgery was clear liquids for 24 hours in the hospital, full liquids for 4 weeks, mushies for 2 weeks, soft solids 2 weeks, then normal diet. For the full liquids I ate mainly cream of tomato soup, cream of potato soup (blended), brocolli and cheese soup from TGIFridays, yogurt, and pudding. I also blended together some cheddar cheese soup and cream of potato soup, it tasted great. Definitely check with your surgeon though, every surgeon is very different.
  25. Admittedly it wasn't a good choice I know! I'm still trying to get my dad to understand that just because it has cheese or meat on it doesn't mean it's healthy! And since I'm a college student with no job and no money I eat what my parents feed me. LOL I can eat pretty much any lean meat and I've never actually had a problem with bread or pasta as long as it's chewed well. Of course I eat less of all that then I did pre banding. I think I'm getting really close to the sweet spot, finally! Thanks for the advice!
