    Gastric Sleeve Eve!

Best of luck to you! I love your title "sleeve eve"...very catchy, I may have to use that when I go, on Christmas Eve Eve (12/23). Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

Technically and legally, I don't think it is legal to ask. I believe it may be some type of HIPPA violation (not sure, but possibly). However, it also depends on the relationship you have with your manager/boss. I told my boss I was having a "procedure" scheduled for 12/23 and needed to take off that last day before the Christmas vacation. She said "and miss the sing-a-long?" (We have a family day almost every month and she is very big on those!) Anyway, she said we will work it out. Just to be safe, I asked my surgeon's office if there was a back-up day, just in case...due to the insurance, I need to have it by the end of the year. I also didn't want to tell too much. I'm also a lifer with my thyroid meds (Synthroid). My endocrinologist said my dosage would be lowered as I lose weight...right now I'm at 250mcg (2 of the 125mcg dose), so it will be great to lower my dose to where I only need 1 pill. Between this and my diabetes meds, hopefully I will save some money on meds. I know that RNY has a higher success rate for diabetes than the sleeve, but I really don't like the idea of rearranging my organs. If my diabetes numbers can be reduced and controlled by 1 or 2 pills, I'm ok with that. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

Hi, I'm on Long Island too. How exciting that your surgery has been scheduled! Which one are you getting? I had the sleeve in Feb. of this year. I'd be more then happy to meet up with you or try to answer any questions you have.I'll be having the sleeve too! I'm scheduled for December 23, right before Christmas...should be interesting. I just had a weigh-in appointment with my surgeon and I'm down about 8# since June 8...not great, but hey, at least I'm going in the right direction! I'm in the Bay Shore/Babylon area...where are you? It would be nice to meet up sometime. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App I go near you all the time. I have family still there -I grew up in the BayShore/Brentwood area. I'm in East Meadow now. You may still be in the hospital on Christmas day so be prepared to celebrate it in the hospital Not like you'll feel like doing anything but sleeping anyhow. I was in the hospital for 3 days - 2 of those days in ICU (I have asthma and had Sleep Apnea - which is gone now - so breathing was a big issue). 8 pounds is definitely a good start! I always say to think of a pound of butter. Now think of 8 of those. That's nothing to sneeze at! You'll loose the weight pretty quick once you have your surgery. I am down almost 70 pounds already and most of that was in the first 4 months. Thanks...I have to remember about that pound of butter times 8. Good reminder. My surgery is the first one scheduled for December 23, so I'll be the first of the day! I just asked my surgeon about getting out on Christmas eve and he thinks that should happen (I said, as long as all goes well)...so hopefully, I'll get a glimpse of my nephews opening my presents before I pass out! HA! How funny that is! Twins?? I can't even imagine! My youngest two were 22 months apart and that's as close to twins as I could ever handle lol We'll definitely have to meet up! As supportive as everyone has been, I have found that only someone who has had surgery truly understands everything. 2 pounds a week is great! I have hypothyroid so I completely understand about feeling like your weight loss is slower because of it but you are doing really great! Your body has a lot of adjusting to do with calorie intake, med adjustments, physical activity adjustments. It sounds like you are doing fantastic!! That's about what I was at 2 months post op. I wasn't sure if that was good or not because you saw some people were still losing 3 or 4 pounds a week at that point but I've since learned that everyone is different and I try not to get hung up on what everyone else is doing. I remember my surgeon telling me that if you don't change what you were doing physically, don't expect things to be any different then they were pre-surgery so that has been a bit motivation to work hard to stay active. I read that joining a gym is good because lifting weights (using machines with weights) is very helpful because while your building muscle you're body will continue to burn calories even at rest which is some thing cardio can't do for you. I have a gym in my office building so I have been going there 3 days a week during my lunch time. Last week I joined a yoga class that starts next week for 6 wks at work. I got sick pretty sick about 6 weeks ago and haven't been doing any exercise and I feel it. Not on the scale, but my body feels weaker and less energetic. I was also walked several times a week which I started again this afternoon. I have a desk job and just sit at my computer all day so I'd take a 15-20 min break around 3ish and take a walk and walk my dog after walk for another 15-20 min. I also have hypothyroidism, diagnosed when I was a toddler. Suppose that might have been a factor in gaining weight when I was younger, but *I KNOW* what I put in my mouth...I can't really blame my poor non-functional thyroid, now, can I? Have you had to change your dose yet? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

Congrats on your 40 pounds!!! Doesn't that feel awesome?? I had my surgery in Feb and am down almost 70. Have you had to get new clothes yet? I found shopping at thrift stores to be a God send so I wasn't spending so much money on clothes that I was in for just a short amount of time. The 3 of us will have to meetup at some point. I'm in East Meadow but I'm around that area all the time since I have family out that way. This is great...a local self-made support-type group! It's so exciting to read about everyone's successes and journey. I've started counting weeks now...10 more weeks on Friday. Crazy! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

Wow, we're practically neighbors! Already down 40 pounds...that's awesome! How is the emotional part going? Is it getting trippy yet? I read and heard that people get really emotional with all the hormones and that the rapid weight loss can be a real mindf**k. What have been the hardest parts, so far? 14. What is PE? My friend is the same age as you, and she had diabetes to the point where she was taking insulin 3x a day. She had the RnY bc it is known to eliminate diabetes whereas with the sleeve, you still may or may not have to take the medication. She's doing great and had lost over 100 pounds. It's just something to consider when you have diabetes. Good luck with your decision. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    Straws

I'm thinking that with all the extra air you may suck in, it is probably not advisable soon after surgery due to discomfort from gas. Also, when you suck from a straw, you create a vacuum to get the liquid up the straw...that may be dangerous when you are newly pre-op, especially for sleevers. I think it's probably best to follow your doctor's orders, especially the first 6-months to a year. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  19. I was on Vyvanse fir awhile. At first I loved it...it felt like my ADD brain turned on! Unfortunately, due to high blood pressure, I was afraid of increasing my chance of dangerous side effects. I also tried Adderall. I am hoping that once I lose enough weight and my blood pressure becomes more normal, that I can try out some amphetamine drugs to handle my ADD. I was never able to reach a high enough dosage of either to notice any significant affect on my appetite. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    Protein powder choice help plz!

Great idea to mix the flavors! I love Wendy's Frostys...I will have to try this and experiment a bit. I'm still pre-op, but I'm testing things out (still, my tastes may change, but who knows). Thanks for that tip! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    Too much food?

So, you're still on liquids? My surgeon told me that we can go home on purees if we can tolerate it. Based on everything else I've read, it scares me a bit to go to purees so quickly. How far out are you? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    Too much food?

Thank you! Tonight I added some fresh raw broccoli and some large grape tomatoes with some low-fat ranch dressing. I also had a veggie hod-dog (not terrible, but not even close to the real thing). My stomach-hunger is definitely better, but my head-hunger is still there. I know the head-hunger will still be there post-op, but I'm praying it lets up a bit...at least for awhile! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    Too much food?

Aha! This was so good for me to read! I am still pre-op, but I have been eating a lot of soft high-protein foods like greek yogurt (with chia seeds to slow down the digestion), plain cottage cheese and ricotta cheese. I tend to eat 2 of these in the morning, around 8 and 11, but I find myself still hungry (stomach hunger, mostly). Maybe I need to eat more *dense proteins*, but I don't eat meat, so it's hard. I do eat fish (such as tuna), but I don't like to bring it to work so much. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
