That is fantastic. Way to go.

I cried like a baby before my surgery. I felt like I completely let myself down. My so called best friend ie. food had become my worst enemy. I am so happy I am banded now. I feel so much better.

You are completely normal. You just need a fill or 2. Good luck.

1 Week to surgery - Just a few questions
juliegeraci replied to vannav12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hunger didn't return for at least a month. That is the beauty of the band. I went in for a fill when I got too hungry. -
up to me for fill?
juliegeraci replied to tazboobecky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need a fill if a)you are always hungry b)are not losing weight or c)can eat more than a cup at a time. You will definitely know if you need a fill. If you have lost 20 lbs in that short of time you may want to wait. Especially if you ever PB or get a golf ball feeling. Good luck. -
I had my surgery on a Tuesday and was back to work the following Monday. So I took 5 complete days to heal. I think that is about right.

No, I initially lost 30lbs but it took me forever. I've been banded 6 months and I'm down 35 lbs. I am losing at the rate of 1 lb per week.

What do fills feel like?
juliegeraci replied to sophrosyne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only part of a fill that hurts is when they give you the numbing agent. It burns. Good luck. -

Sorry you have to wait so long. I hope it improves for you. -
I think it takes about an hour. It is normal to be nervous. I was a nervous wreck.

I didn't feel hungry at all. YOu will probably experience this as with the swelling. Best of luck.

I am in the process of moving and today I decided to get rid of all my sizse 24s. I think I even had a 26 in there and a lot of 3x. I am now down to 1x (I even slipped into a Large the other day) and a tight 20 on the bottom. I do feel more comfortable in a 22 but boy do those tight 20s look good! Anyway, I have a 10 lb goal right now and that would bring me right over the 40+ mark and 1/2 way to my goal of 82 lbs. I lost 30 lbs preop so once I hit my goal I would have lost 120 lbs down to 200 lbs. I'm at 247 right now. Thanks for reading.

Sherilynn, you are not feeling sorry for yourself you just want to make sure the decision is the best for yourself. I have to be honest with you. The lapband is a slower process. If you follow the band rules you will lose weight. But,,,,,you have to look at it as normal weight loss is 1-2 lbs a week. You may lose more, or you may lose less. RNY is much quicker. I understand that you have to reroute everything and that is why it is far more invasive. You just have to come to terms with whether or not you can be patient with the band. If I had to do it all over again I would pick the band but would be more agressive on my fills. Right now I am down 35 lbs since June. I'm considered a slow loser at 1 lb a week. It may take me over a year to lose the rest of my weight 47 lbs to be exactly. Probably will take me more like 9-12 months. Some lapband patients take up to 2 years to lose all their weight. Please be aware of this. You may or may not have the patience to withstand the band. It is a tool, nothing more. You can still consume high density foods with the band. With RNY you can't have sugar or alcohol. It sounds like you are weighing towards the band which is a good thing. Don't let others discourage you. Its a personal journey. Best of luck.
