Steady but sure, I'm gaining weight.
Well, I got home from being gone all week. Man, being in a hotel room all week away from my routine and my food made it really tuff. I am still doing ok for morning, but night time is like not having a band at all. I can eat anything at night and pretty much at any speed. It's a good thing I get a fill on tuesday, because the food is going right through at night. I sense that I'm one of those people who will be very very tight in the morning in order to be at the right restriction in the evening. The evening is when I fall, so if it does work out that way, I'll be just fine.

Eating & Drinking Before A Fill
Well, this must be the shortest length, but longest duration thread ever? It started in 2003. One thing that I have decided is to get my fill in the afternoon. I had my first fill in the morning, but since I am naturally a lot tighter in the morning, I wasn't able to take much. I figure on my next fill, it will be in the afternoon, so that I can take more fill. Yes, this may mean a very tight band for me in the morning, but that is fine with me, I prefer because of time contraints and convenience to have a Protein shake for Breakfast anyway.

Why did I just throw up saltines?
If the only way you can eat something is by drinking water with it, then technically you are violating the band rules. This would therefore be an item that you really can't eat. Deciding to do things like drink water with your food is really just eating around the band and defeating yourself.

Should I get banded before or after my 14 weeks in India (volunteering & backpackin)
Backpacking and such right after surgery, or even for the first 4 weeks after, may be a bad idea. I was restricted on what I was allowed to lift.

Female Invasion of the Mens Room
I love talking about periods!!!!! Ok, not really. LOL If I had to deal with that once a month, I think I would be completely insane.

Morning just right, evening meal is quite a fright
Yep, it is normal....you are in bandster hell. It happens to most, I didn't have it so bad, but most do. Stick with the food your doctor has approved you for, it is very important for the future of your band. I was easily tired, for the first 3 weeks. I felt normal if I wasn't doing anything, but just walking through a grocery store would get tiring. I think this is just as much from the surgery as the diet. Look for anyway to get protein that is in the approved form from your doctor.

Morning just right, evening meal is quite a fright
Well, my band is close but no cigar yet. I feel perfectly restricted in the morning, but so loose at night that I could eat anything. This morning I ate at the breakfast buffet at the hotel and I was so happy to only want a cup of food. I took an entire plate of food out of habit, but just left it. My problem right now is at night everything is pretty much slipping straight through. I could eat just about as much as I want, but am trying to control myself until my next fill. I will get my next fill next week. ONE thing I have realized, is that for me getting a fill in the afternoon versus the morning is going to be a must. I wouldn't mind being so tight in the morning that I can just drink a protein drink, as this is all I usually have time for anyway, but dinner time is when I really need to be in complete control with a band. Getting the fill in the afternoon should get me closer to ideal restriction for that time of day.

The frustration of a plateau
Well, my weight loss has been bouncing for the last 2 weeks. I have started going up a couple of pounds and then down a couple of pounds. I know the problem isn't so much my calories eaten as it is my excercise level. I started to swim again, and got a terrible cold for the last week. I think with some regular excercise this week, I should be able to push through this. I really want to lose another 20 pounds in the next two months, so I'm going to have to get some excercise to get my metabolism going. I will start today by walking for a couple of hours, and maybe a short swim.

Russel Stovers Chocolate??
Actually, if you think of it that way, it definitely keeps you from eating any of it!!!!!!!!

Russel Stovers Chocolate??
I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed this and what it really means. They show on the package that they have low carbs, but if you look closely it says sugar alcohols. It seems whenever I eat any of this chocolate and even accounting for the calories, it pretty much puts a stop to my weight loss. I'm not eating more calories per day, but I'm just wondering if the "sugar alcohols" is really reacting just like normal carbs and preventing me from losing weight. I am one of those people who really has to watch my carbs or I don't lose.

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?
I would do exactly what wasabubblebut is talking about. I would get overly hungry for dinner, and then eat too fast with too big of bites and have trouble. Now I make a point of drinking 16oz of Water 30-45 minutes prior to eating if I'm really hungry. It makes all the difference in the world, and yes I have found that I eat less this way, with less problems. If I'm not really hungry I do just fine and don't have to worry about it.

Do you get sick of other people.......
I did strickly atkins before the band at one time. I didn't lose a pound. Why? Because I was totally unable to control my portion sizes. I could eat the so called low carb stuff and avoid everything else, but I could eat so much of it that it still added up. Boy was I a perfect candidate for the band. I do try to keep my carbs to 100 now though. It just make me less hungry and less cravings. But that is just me, I think for some people it means nothing to have a lot of carbs. It really depends on your genetics.

bypass vs. banding???
"I had a sucessful bander tell me that at least when the bypass people stomach streches back out we(banded) can have our's tightened!" Of course you can stretch out your pouch and gain weight also, and lets face it, there is a limit to what the band can do, because you can only restrict so much and then your done.....you can't just keep adding restriction forever. I like the sleeve idea the most....it gives you the small stomach affect of having the band, but without all of the restriction problems and aftercare. I personally believe the sleeve is the future. I had the band because it was the only real option for me. I could do better with less likelyhood of problems down the road with a sleeve.

Therapist thinks I need more therapy??
Ahhhh, but more therapy means more money for that therapist. Follow the money trail and it will answer most questions in life.

Anyone deal w/ your partner getting jealous once you start losing weight?
Well it sounds like your not really happy with him now. Once you lose the weight, you are going to attract more men, and eventually your going to find greener grass. Don't kid yourself, this is how he feels, and he is probably right. A strong marriage could have problems when someone changes drastically, a weak one is definitely going to have problems.

Baby-faced boy is father at 13
"what are things coming to these days" It really isn't all that surprising to me. Heck, it has really only been the last 200 years that a girl didn't get married by 15. I'm not saying that's a good thing, just that in all of the history of humans, it has been a only recent development that people don't have sex until they are a little older. I think far more children are having sex then people want to believe....you just know for sure, when a baby pops out.

How much does the band itself cost
I was told this is possible. But, frankly the insurance company decides how much of the procedure is for the band versus the other, and after prorating everything it would have cost me more. Why? Because the cash pay route for the lapband procedure using cash was cheaper then using insurance. Using insurance made the same exact procedure cost more, therefore the part the insurance company would pay was eaten up by the cost difference of cash pay versus insurance. This is why many places advertise a "cash price"....it isn't the same as what they charge the insurance company. This may not be true for all places that perform the lapbands, but it was in my case?

Do you get sick of other people.......
I answer with the truth. Yes, I can, no it probably isn't the best choice, but in the end it is really about calories in and calories out and eating enough of the right things to stay healthy. I also tell them, this band is for life...."do you really think I won't ever eat anything just because it tastes good for the rest of my life?" I'm eating the way I will eat for the rest of my life, not just for awhile to lose weight and then gain it back.

constant pbing today, what's wrong?
It may be simple, it may be a slipped band....no one really knows without looking. I personally wouldn't let someone who doesn't know lapbands look at it. I think they tend to make mistakes, and may think they need to remove it, when it really isn't a problem.

constant pbing today, what's wrong?
You need to have your band checked by a professional experienced with lapbands. Hopefully first thing in the morning....don't let yourself get overly deydrated waiting. If I had to I would get an IV to get fluids back in me from an emergency room and that way you can see someone tomorrow. It may be as simple as something has caused you to get tight... Are you under a lot of stress recently? Illness? They will probably want to do a fluoro to see that everything is ok, and obviously your going to need some kind of unfill, how much depends on what they see.
