  1. Why is the HRM more accurate? I was under the impression that they are all about 90%?? Of course in the end it just helps me see where I'm at according to it, and what I have to do for a calorie deficit to lose weight may have to be adjusted.
  2. Everyone should keep this in mind when using forums of any kind, not just weight loss forums. It has been prevelant on every forum I have ever been active with and has many times made me decide to leave.
  3. I was told 4 weeks. Frankly, I still don't get in pools that I don't know who is taking care of them. Hotels, for instance can be very clean or very dirty and you can't tell by looking. I especially, stay out of public hottubs unless I know exactly what the Water test looks like.....I guess I know a little too much to be comfortable with some of the cess pools out there.
  4. I think if your really upset, and he is still doing it, then it is time for some marriage counseling. I do and don't do things my wife say's all of the time, but if it was something that was upsetting her, I would stop. He either doesn't think it really upsets you, or he doesn't care, or he can't stop. You need to figure out which it is and fix it from there.
  5. It helps me stay motivated when the scale isn't moving. I weight myself way too much, but now I can see how I'm doing everyday.
  6. I know this is a really old post, but I thought I would let you guys know, that the Weight Loss Surgical Center in West Des Moines will do fills for other patients. They will require some information from your surgery. The only other place I know of is all the way in Minneapolis area....one of the fill center usa locations.
  7. One thing that drives me crazy. Everytime I go to the site I have to log in again. The "rememer me" function doesn't seem to work.
  8. Any problems? Well of course. There have been several studies and I think it is around 5% total complications rate with the band at 5 years. No one can really tell you which surgery is best for you. It really is an individual thing. People can really only tell you how the different surgeries work and what the upside or downside to them might be. In reality the doctor has probably already took these things into consideration, if he has asked you about your eating habits and such. I had lapband because it was the only choice available for me, but if I could have had Gastric Sleeve, I probably would have went that direction. Mainly, because I am self pay regardless, and after the first year I have to pay for aftercare, or god forbid any problems. Since you have Insurance paying for it, you should be able to look at the pros and cons of both and decide which one you like best.
  9. Well you could have gastic sleeve? Most people think of it as the best of both worlds. You just get the reduced portion control, and can still eat just about anything. Of course if you just eat a little, but eat all day long, then this to can be defeated. Of course in the end, if you eat things that are absorbed quickly and have hi caloric content per gram, then you won't be successful with any Weight Loss Surgery.
  10. I bought the bodybugg more as a learning tool and tracking tool, to help keep me motivated and not look at the scale so much. Well, I have already learned a couple of things. First off, I'm only burning about 2200 calories a day so far after two days. I haven't excercise in those two days. What I hadn't even planned on doing was using the daily food log. I have never done this and have always just added up the calories. Right off, I noticed that after logging everything I was actually consuming about 20% more calories then I really thought. My goal is 1200, and while I did that the first day, I really thought I did 1000, and on the second day, I thought I was around 1200 and I was really at 1450. Wow, what an eye opener. I'm thinking this bodybugg is the best 200 dollars I have spent yet!!! I'm actually going to use the food logger since I'm not nearly as good at keeping track of the calories as I thought I was???

  12. I would love to take a trip to see the Great Pyramids, but I just don't feel comfortable traveling in that area of the world. It may be a reasonable fear or not??? I have been to Mexico many times and most of Central America and the Islands in the Caribbean. One thing I have learned in any of these places is that you really need to know where you are at and if it relatively safe for tourists or not. I think the recession is really hurting the drug trade everywhere. Maybe they should have a program to help the dealers, so they wouldn't fight so much? Yes I'm just kidding.
  13. So far so good. I'm down to one cup of food again. It also seems to be more consistent between morning and evening now. I have no clue why that would be, but it works great.
  14. Just to clarify, I wasn't doubting the poster's story....I just didn't see the necessity of making a new id for such a story. By the way, when traveling outside of the US, as a US citizen you are very commonly a target of crime. Always be awhere and cautious.
  15. Why a new id just to report that? If you are worried about reprisals from someone in the Mexican Banding Industry, then it sounds like you should never have trusted them in the first place?
  16. Well, I was very very loose. Heck I took 1cc just to get back the restriction I had after the last fill. Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks it will continue to work. I won't be going back for 4 weeks after this one, so here is hoping for a good 4 weeks. If everything goes well, I should lose 10lbs this month.
  17. Well last night was the first night in two weeks I felt any restriction while eating dinner. Unfortunately today is my second fill. I hope this up and down nature of restriction is too much to deal with long term. I also think that a lot of my weight gain was from eating soup at the hotel restaurant last week. I think this because in the two days since I got back I dropped 3lbs? That has to be water weight, so I'm thinking the soup had a lot of MSG in it or something? I say all of this because it could be that the MSG also was making me retain water and making my restriction less? It could all be related? I am predicting a .5cc fill today? I know I am still not at as good of a point as I was a week after my surgery, so I know I'm really not to the sweet spot right now.

  19. I know this isn't really where this thread was going, but I have wondered the following: If lapband slips are caused by several things and one of the biggest reasons is patients not staying on the post op diet, then why wouldn't they prescribe phentermine to people for the first month to ensure a better compliance rate? I will say that I don't really like the fact that doctors are saying what causes the slips and they just happen to blame the patients at about 3 times the rate of blaming themselves. So maybe slips aren't really caused that often by patients and they really know this? Of course the other biggest reason for slips is reported as excessive vomiting, but even then they blame the patient for not telling them. Well maybe they should be prescribing anti-vomitting medicine ahead of time, to emphasize how important not vomitting really can be? Sorry for the hi-jack, but this thread makes me think of these things.
  20. I think if you try to emphasize getting a certain amount of protein, say 60-80grams a day, and only having 1200-1500 calories, you will find that you can really only eat the right things.
  21. How is the exercise going? It sounds like your body went into starvation mode. How many calories are you eating a day? Less isn't always better? Don't eat ice cream!!!!! Man is it full of calories!!! And not the good kind.
  22. My feet are freezing!!!!
  23. Mine was 17500 and included aftercare and fills. I think you need to check the cost of going elsewhere....for the cheap surgery and then pay for your aftercare. Or the cost of going for surgery locally and having aftercare included. Both decisions are valid, depending on what you find out and what you are comfortable with. I had my choices down to a local place or going to Mexico and having fills done after getting back. I chose local because the closest fill location that took patients who they hadn't banded was 4 hours away. With my work schedule and the cost difference it just wasn't worth the savings to go to mexico.
  24. If you like science fiction or he does, you could tell him you are really a cyborg and that this is your download port. If he wants more detail, tell him it is beyond most humans ability to understand. If you can't laugh about things, then move on to a new person.
  25. Were all in the same boat. I think for myself, the first fill was done when I still had some swelling in my stomach. So a week after the fill my swelling continued to got down and total restriction was actually less. Even though I had the fill it has been a long 3 weeks and 3lbs gained. I think another fill should really help now that the swelling is definitely down. I also believe that the unfill process during a fill can readjust things and make the fill react differently. I'm planning the next fill without any removal to avoid this potential change.
