    Denied By Aetna!! Wth?!

I had the same thing happen to me last month! Jumped through all the hoops, my surgeons office told me everything looked good, did all my per-op appointments and then DENIED for not showing 2 years of morbid obesity. It's like they deny you for having tried to loose weight in the past, and succeeding but then gaining it back?! My surgeons office then told me there was nothing they could do but send me to an appeals program. It was just sent in for appeal today so my fingers are crossed it gets over turned!!! I feel for you!! It's such a bad feeling especially when your hopes are up! Good luck!!
  2. Hi all, I was recently denied by Aetna for lapband due to not having a high enough weight for 2 years. My problem was that I lost some weight on a supervised diet (Jenny Craig) and then gained it all right back, so the insurance company denied me for having once lost weight. I have now developed a thyroid problem which makes it that much harder to loose weight. In saying all this, I am working with lindstrom advocacy to hopefully get it over turned. Has anyone worked with them having Aetna and had success. I'm very discouraged and want this really bad! Any information would be greatly appreciated -Mandy
  3. Thank you all so much!!! I will look into all of that. I'm really hoping it comes back overturned. I had done so much in hopes of approval the first time around. I made the mistake of sending in my Jenny Craig records as my 6 months diet where I had lost weight. Thank you again! Hoping to hear something soon.

    Aetna Question!

I am in the process of getting approval with Aetna. My doctor told me stay confident that I will get approval but I was curious about one thing. I currently have a 40.5 BMI and meet all the requirements for my doctor. My one concern is that they require a 2-year of BMI history of being over weight. Do you have to have a 2 year weight history of a BMI over 40 or just an overweight BMI?? Over the past two years I have gained about 40 lbs due to a thyroid problem, which in turn makes it much harder to loose weight. Some of my weights from 2010 and 2011 only show a 33-34 BMI. Do you think this will keep me back from getting approval? Any feedback from others who have been approved by Aetna would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you in advance! -Mandy

Does Our Age Make A Difference?

I'm am also in my 20's and am looking to get banded in September. When I spoke with my doctor they said the their younger patients have some of the best results! One of my good friends who was banded a few years ago at age 20 lost 85 lbs without much, if any, working out! Also, like those above, I have been told that your skin is much more likely to go right back. I'd love to talk to you further, i've been looking for someone to share in my journey with who understand what its like.

New To Lbt And Need Advice! :)

  7. Hey everyone! My name is Mandy and I am new to LBT I went to my seminar earlier this week and have my consultation scheduled for July 12th. I am from the Northern Virginia area and am currently a college student studying to be an Elementary School Teacher I would love any advice to calm my nerves. I am hoping to get the surgery covered by my insurance, Aetna, or else I wont be getting the surgery. The office I am getting it done at has a 100% approval so far so I am hopeful! I would love any feedback on pain after surgery and foods you can and cannot eat! Any information or new friends of support for my journey would be greatly appreciated!

New To Lbt And Need Advice! :)

Thank you all so much for your responses! To clarify, I know my insurance policy covers weight loss surgeries but I have to wait on approval for myself specifically. I will definitely work closely with the dietitican at the office on additional food info! Thanks Again, Mandy

    New to LBT

I am looking into further information on Lapband. I am going to a consultation next week. I have heard many different things and was just curious if those of you who have already been through this journey have any advice for someone just starting out. One thing I would like some feedback on is people who have gone through with the surgery without support from your family and friends. My mom is very supportive of my choice to do so but my boyfriend, dad and brother aren't. Its hard to get them to understand the struggle but also make such a huge decision without there support. Any advice on that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! Currently 19 y/o- 220 lbs and suffer from Hypothroidism
