  1. Hey Carat, I had my band removed 3 days ago and have to wait to have RNY done. I know how and what you're feeling b/c I feel the same way. There is some good advice given here and we have to watch out for eating the wrong types of foods, watch our calories, and increase our physical activities. Believe me, I know that's easier said than done. Good Luck!

    Happy!

I had my band out 2 days ago and have the same worries that you once had. I'm glad to hear that you're happy with it and you're right, the band was uncomfortable. Thanks for the encouraging post, and keep up the good work
  3. I've heard that lap band revisioners lose slower. I had my band removed two days ago(sore). I "m not as young as most of you here, but I'm having rny in a few months. Since I am at a lower weight going in, I don't think it would bother me to lose a little slower b/c that's better than not losing at all in 4 of the 5 years I've had with the band. I think you're doing great! keep at it.

    post op!

Oh No! I had my band out yesterday and know how I'm feeling. But that was about 34 hours ago and I'm feeling better every few hours or so with the help of my meds. With that said, I still have to go through RNY after I heal. that sounds a little scary. Take care, I hope it gets better soon.
  5. My band came out yesterday and I'm sure I'll miss it but it wasn't doing any more justice for me and haven't in 4 years. I was banded 5 years ago and lost a total of 45 lbs. I've had my share of fills and unfillls. coughs, reflux, you name it. The Dr. told my husband to not let me eat any solid food for the next 2 days. So that's what I'll do. Tomorrow I plan to do a couple of protein shakes and blend in some strawberries along with more sugar free pudding, jello, and some thin grits. But I can feel you on being hungry..Good Luck!
  6. Hi Annie, I was banded in ;09 and I developed severe acid reflux and night coughs whenever I got Fluid in my band. I had nearly all of the fluid removed and felt a lot better. Every once in a while I would somehow ( pull or strain a stomach muscle). At least that's what the Dr. said my pain was. Another Dr. said it was IBS. Whatever it was, I would hurt for 2-3 weeks in the port area. I had my band taken out yesterday. Yes, I'm sore right now but hoping that I will be able to exercise b/c I didn't before for fear of straining that muscle. Good Luck to you.

    Night cough

I was banded in '09. I started having all of the same symptoms as you. I could always eat what I wanted and as much as I wanted but I've always stopped myself from doing that. I've had so many fills and unfills that I cant even count anymore. I developed acid reflux and terrible night coughs even though my last meal would be 4 hrs before bedtime. I'm diabetic and it was hard doing that. I've had mostly all of my Fluid removed and have gained back 13 lbs 3 years ago but can proudly say that I've maintained there. You may be a little too tight also, but be careful when the fluid is out of your band.

    Weird symptoms after lapband removal

I'm having my band removed in 4 days. 5 days ago I called my Dr. b/c I have a sore throat and have been talking and swallowing a little differently. No pain, but the roof of my throat at times feels as if it's swelling causing me to talk with a little lisp. If not gone by tomorrow, I'll head to the ER b/c I thought it may be a cold coming on, but the cold symptoms left today but the roof of my throat still feels sort of numb at times. The nurse asked if I could still swallow, and the answer is yes but a couple of times liquids have gone down the wrong pipe and I've gotten strangled.
  10. I laughed out loudly when I read your post..I just want you to know that you definitely are not alone. I don't even want mine there while I'm in surgery.

    Ugh...darn the naysayers!

Nicole, diabetes and heart disease runs heavily in my family too. I'm scheduled for band removal in 5 days, I'm considering RNY due to many family complications and open heart surgeries. I'm a diabetic with HBP and I'm twice your age. I'm considered a light weight for RNY ( 5'3" and 215 lbs) and I'm trying hard not to listen to jealous folks. When I first started losing with the lap band, My co-worker said " OK, you better stop losing b/c you don't want to look like her" referring to another co-worker that had surgery. I think the other co-worker look amazing. I am still 60 lbs overweight and the band has to go after 5 years and only lost 33 lbs. I know what's best for me and hope that it's not too late. Hang in there, you sound like a strong person and I'm also heeding the good advice from your respondents. I'm starting to not worry about image so much like I used to. Now, I just want to get back healthy. Therefore, I can't even tell my co-workers.
  12. Hey, I've developed something weird going on with my throat. I had to call the office back and now I'm having band removal in 5 days. I'm trying hard not to think about it
  13. I will be having the band removed in 5 days

    surgery in a week

Hi Leena, I can only tell you what others here are telling me. And that is to hang in there. I'm freaking out too and sitting here waiting for my Dr's office to call me back with a date to have my band revision. I'm 5' 3" and weigh 213. I haven't even started the liquid diet phase yet. I'll keep you in prayer and ask the same for me. Keep in touch!
  16. Thanks Heather, I'm waiting to hear back from my Dr's office as I type. I'm afraid to do it b/c I'm a light weight for RNY ( in my opinion anyway). I'm 5' 2" tall and weigh 213 lbs. My diabetes and HBP is telling me to stop worrying about getting too thin and focus on my health. It's time that I listen. I have a bad family history that goes along with my same issues. Yes, OK, let's keep in touch
  17. Hi Pic, I have most of the same issues as you. I am terrified to have this surgery done b/c I now weigh 213 lbs. I was banded 5 yrs. ago and lost 48 lbs. I've gained back 15 lbs and my A1-C level is higher than it's ever been along with my HBP. I know I can't do this on my own, I've been trying for 30 yrs and I am now 59. I'm listening to everyone else here that has gone through what we are going through now. I've been approved to have the band removed, but now I'm waiting for a call back to see if insurance will once again pay to have rny at the same time. I just want you to know that You're not alone and I wish you the best
  18. I'm scheduled for the end of July for band removal. I think I may as well go for the entire RNY and get it over with. I'm just afraid that I will lose too much and that will be all I need to hear my husband( whom really don't want me to have it) say " I TOLD YOU NOT TO DO IT". That worries me a lot (What others will say) but I'm the one dealing with HBP and blood sugars that are totally out of control now. I was banded b/c I thought it would help but I was never rid of them. I'm glad you were finally approved. lets keep in touch

    African American RNY Sisters

Hello Guys, I too am a light weight for RNY. But as mentioned before, I also have type 2 diabetes and High B/P. I have the lap band now and have been approved to have it taken out. I'm 5'2 and weigh 213, but I have to do the pre-op diet and lose before having it done. Because I have very thin legs and arms, someone asked me "How do you think you're going to look if you do that". I often worry about that too, but I'm listening to others here and to myself and want to do it for health reasons.
  20. My band slipped 2.5 years ago. It was found after I had a barium swallow for acid reflux, gerd, and night coughs. When I went back to my surgeon, he said let's remove some Fluid and he did. I gained 10 lbs after that and yo-yoed with fills and un fills. I'm a size 16 now and my paper work was just submitted again for RNY. I was approved before earlier this year but was afraid and put it off.
  21. I am having my band removed in 3 weeks. I also have diabetes and have now decided to just go all the way with RNY due to it. I told my surgeon that I would do it in 2 separate surgeries, but feeling the way I do now, I want to call Monday morning and ask to start the process for RNY ASAP. I cant tell if these feelings are beginning signs of nerve damage or worse. I'm scared to death to have the procedure in one step, but I'm more afraid to wait around. I really need your support right now! All revisioners

Bye Bye Band - RNY I hope soon

I have bc/bs federal also. I will be having my band removed in 3 weeks and have bypass later. But like you, I've researched my options and know that my Dr. will do it in one surgery and I believe that my insurance will pay. My paperwork has been already submitted, So I'm now thinking to call my surgeons office and go ahead with revising to RNY but I am one scared cookie....LOL

    Really nervous!

Hi, You're definitely not alone. I am scared out of my mind. I'm having band out in 3 weeks. Dr. wants me to do RNY and I know that's what I need b/c my diabetes is getting worse. I almost backed out of my appointed today and I was standing at the window in my Dr's office...LOL. If my insurance won't pay to have RNY in a few months after band removal, I suppose I will be having it done in one surgery..Keep me posted and good luck.
  24. I'm scheduled for removal in 3 weeks. It's been 5 years for me. I lost 45 lbs the first 5 months and nothing since. I was too tight and loosened several times. I ended up gaining back 13 lbs but have managed to maintain there. Right now I can't exercise or sleep on my left side due to pain that's sometimes there NOT ALL THE TIME THERE. I'm afraid of the whole process, but I still have at least 40 more lbs to lose. Like you 2012, I'm having no pain at times but I do know that after 5 years, I want to be sure that nothing bad is going on. Good Luck to everyone!
